Chapter 9

The phone lighting up in the darkness with a short buzz broke him away from the brooding emotions in his heart and the dangerous expression on his face faded. He closed his eyes and when he opened his eyes again, a pair of flat and empty eyes were revealed.

Selwynn suppressed the turbulence in his heart and picked up the phone, the blue light illuminating the darkness of his pupils.

It was Cate and he had sent the information on the P2P finance project.

After scanning through the information, he placed the phone down but no longer dwelled on emotions. He wrapped some plastic around the gauze on his abdomen to prevent the wound from being wet, then took a shower letting the hot water relax his tense muscles.

The figure under the shower was slender and lean but the thin layer of muscles was filled with an explosive layer of strength underneath. No one could mistake him for fragility. There was still dry blood on his palm that washed away with a stinging.

After finally washing up, he lay down motionlessly in bed waiting for morning.

He knew it would be a sleepless night, for a very long time he could not sleep watching his downfall now the paranoia and raging madness in his heart would not allow him to close his eyes without seeing memories of the past.

They haunted him, refused to let go and clamoured for revenge.

He knew that he would need to prescribe sleeping pills in order to sleep but being reliant on drugs was too dangerous in this line of work and he would not allow himself to be controlled.

Noah's groups would definitely hear of his movement in Shanghai and his faction would more than likely use this to discredit him. Nevertheless, he had already thought of a way to deal with the upcoming battle.

He thought of the timelines of events at this moment and the things he had never had time to take care of and was even more determined about what he was doing tomorrow.

He suppressed the urge to smoke a cigarette,

Listening to the pattering raindrops outside, he felt the darkness sink and bury itself in his heart.

---

The nights of the metropolis are always extraordinarily lively, revealing the unique extravagance of modern society everywhere.

All kinds of light board advertisements are hung between buildings, and advertisements are broadcast m on the screens of skyscrapers in a loop. The pattering raindrops fall, and the fashionable and modern people will start a luxurious and happy nightlife even in the light rain.

A man was walking on the street, dressed in white clothes and black trousers, as if he were in two worlds, he was separated from the gorgeously dressed passers-by around him.

In this hedonistic metropolis, people always like to wear wide skirts and flower-studded hats, and men also wear sequins, well-combed hair, colourful suit, or tight jeans full of holes, exaggerated but with the unique will of the times.

Compared with them, the man was like a different kind, carrying a black umbrella and wearing black silk gloves, he was like an ancient aristocrat walking out from a painting.

He attracted a look wherever he went but these passers-by could not attract a glimpse of him because he would not care about those walking at different crossroads. After all, now he had a goal that he must achieve by any means.

---

After a night of intermittent sleep, dawn approached and he opened his eyes with no sign of sleepiness.

After washing up in the master bedroom, he went down and had a cup of coffee and some porridge laid out by the maid. Cate greeted him at the door right on time and followed him into the car with the guards surrounding his SUV.

Selwynn scanned through the documents he needed to be approved, signed them and placed them aside before reporting an address to the driver.

"Downtown South Avenue, Opal Club."

"Boss, what are you doing on that side?"

"Going to rescue someone."

Cate was surprised and for a second he wondered which important character needed his cold boss to condescend to save them.

Selwynn knew his questions from his eyes but was not prepared to answer them. It's not that this person is important to him but that he was a crucial part of his later plans.

The P2P project he had Cate forward to him was a newly launched project that had just been implemented this year. It was a simple construction project that built small resident housing for a cheap price.

But it was this project that gave him many headaches in his last life and it all started because of a simple gang fight caused by the contractor's greed.

The contractor hired for this project had dirty hands and delved into the transportation of illegal contraband using the money and channels given by the company. At the same time, he shorted the funds for the construction projects and replaced them with shabby materials which caused the building to collapse later.

Unfortunately, at this time, this contractor poked a hornet's nest and alarmed the police and to get rid of his connections he blamed the leader of a small gang that worked under him before running away. This contractor was also closely linked to one of the faction groups.

This leader had particularly loyal brothers and they completely transferred their hatred to the company a lot of annoying things happened because of them and many construction projects in China were interrupted because of their troubles.

At this moment what he was going to do this time was to save that little gang leader. Not to mention he also had other uses for him, the troubles of the construction site would not just be over by taking away the contractor, the previous damage had to be repaired and intently investigated.

He checked the time and knew that he would arrive at the scene just in time. In any case, he would solve all troubles as they come.
