I openedmy eyes wide. It didn't take long for them to adjust to the darkness. Slowly I turned my head to see Jay fast asleep next to me. I slowly slipped out of bed hoping not to wake him up. I creeped into the restroom and closed the door behind me.
I turned on the light but had to shut my eyes for a few seconds. As soon as I opened them my eyes quickly adjusted to the light. I approached the sink and looked at myself in the mirror. I stared at myself for a few long minutes.
"What the hell happened to me?" I whispered to myself.
I sighed before I turned around and turned off the light. I walked back into the room and slipped underneath the blankets.

"It was an accident. A stupid accident. I had just seen him, then he was gone a few hours later, just like that"
Jay's elbow was resting on the pillow while his hand was resting on his cheek. His other hand was intertwined with my hand "Was this the guy you were telling me about when we had that beer at Molly's?"
I nodded my head "Yea" I whispered.
"You told me he was your friend"
"He was more than that. I loved him"
"Why didn't you ever tell me about him?" He asked. His finger caressing my hand.
I lightly shrugged my shoulders "I don't know. After he was gone I wasn't sure if I would be able to find someone again. Then you came along" I said looking at him.
He softly smiled. Bringing my hand up he laid a kiss on it "I'm sorry about Liam"
"I know he would've wanted me to be happy, and I am" I cuddled up next to him.

"What are you doing here anyways? I'm surprised your not with Jay. You've been glued to his hip since you got out of the hospital" Kelly said as he ate his breakfast.
I laughed "No I haven't. He's back at work today"
I was visiting Kelly in the morning before he headed off to work.
"What about you? Are you excited to get back to work?" Kelly asked.
My elbows leaned on the counter as I sat across from him "Yea, it's been 4 weeks since I got released from the hospital. I can't wait to head back"
"Just promise me you'll be careful"
I looked at him with promising eyes "I will"
I hopped off of the chair I was sitting on "I'll see you later" I took a few steps to him and kissed him on the cheek.
"Alright sis. Be careful" He said as I was walking away.
I waved at him as I walked away.
After parking at the district I turned off the ignition and sat in the car for a few minutes. Taking deep breaths I stared at the entrance. Watching people in uniforms going in and out, as well as civilians.
I looked down to see my hands shaking. I clenched them inward and closed my eyes for a second as I took a deep breath. "You can do this" I whispered to myself.
I opened my eyes and exited my car. Swinging my bag over my shoulder I began to walk to the door. After walking inside I made my way to my desk. Our district was very similar to District 21 and the intelligence room. Expect ours wasn't upstairs.
Once I walked in I saw Nathan at his desk and Lucas with him. Then I noticed someone else. Nathan and Lucas smiled when they saw me.
"Hey" I spoke up.
"Hi, I'm Detective Susan Wells" A woman stood up and held out her hand to me.
I looked at her with a light baffled expression as I held out my hand to shake hers. She looked pretty comfortable... at my desk.
I assumed Nathan could see my baffled expression because he walked over to me "It's so good to see you"
I couldn't stop staring at the fact that Susan was at my desk.
"What's going-"
"Ah, Cassie. Can I see you in my office?" Sargent Connor spoke up as he stood at his door.
"Sure" I said hesitantly as I began to walk to his office. I set down my bag in front of my desk. Connor called Nathan as he walked back into his office.
I entered his office with Nathan behind me. He closed the door as I glanced at Nathan before turning back to Connor. I didn't like the vibe I was getting.
"What's going on?" I asked.
Connor stood behind his desk while Nathan stood next to me.
"First of all, how are you feeling?" Connor asked.
"I'm doing better. Ready to get back to work" I said with a smile and with enthusiasm.
"Right, about that" Connor began to speak.
My heart began to race.
"Because of the fact that you've been out for 5 weeks unfortunately we've had to get a replacement"
I arched my eyebrows forward "Replacement?"
"Yes" He said with a nod "Detective Wells is now Nathan's partner"
A light scoff escaped my lips "Is that why she's comfortable at my desk? And what about me? Yea I've been gone for 5 weeks but I wasn't on vacation Sargent, I almost died because of some psycho stalking-" My voice was getting louder.
"Cassie" Nathan touched my arm slightly to stop me from going on.
"I understand that Detective, but we couldn't leave your partner without one as you were gone"
"Okay, so I'm back now"
"I'm sorry. Susan is already transferred from another district. She is Nathan's partner... permanently"
I scoffed "I don't believe this" Before I could go on Nathan stopped me by touching my arm again.
Good thing he did, or else I would've gone on and more than likely said something I would've regretted.
"Your box of things from your desk is sitting on Nathan's desk" Connor explained.
Turning my back I opened the door and walked out. Without looking at anyone I grabbed my bag and box. I walked out of the district and climbed into my car.
~
As soon as I walked up the last step Jay turned and noticed me.
"Hey" He stood up from his desk "Is everything okay? What are you doing here?" He began approaching me.
"I'm fine" Jay had been a little paranoid since I've gotten out of the hospital. Been asking if I was okay. "I'm sorry to just show up"
"It's okay" I walked over to the chair that was sitting next to his desk.
Jay walked to his chair and sat down "What's wrong?" He asked me. He was putting all his focus on me
I looked up at him "I think I just lost my job"
