[seventy two]

May 24, 1999

The more Hermione thought about it, the more it made sense.

The Dark Magic wasn't the reason why she suddenly hated eggs and creamy food, the little baby in her belly was.

It was breakfast on Monday morning when her symptoms really became a lot more apparent and less ignorable. She could no longer keep the morning sickness down, and she couldn't, for the life of her, stop eating banana and apple fritters.

This baby is going to be one heck of a monster for fruits.

It's been three days since she, Ron and Theo found out, and also three days since they all made a pact to keep everyone else out of it until after the battle.

Hermione wasn't going to lie and say she didn't feel guilty, because she did. In fact, she felt so terribly guilty that her pregnancy hormones made her cry in the shower because of it.

Madame Pomfrey had explained to her that magical pregnancies were very different from normal ones. Hers will be especially different with the Malfoy's strong magical lineage.

She also explained that the baby she's carrying is also the reason why her Malfoy bond wasn't working as well as it should.

"Pineapple, strawberry, banana smoothie for the lady of the hour." Ron set a goblet down in front of Hermione with a wink—her potion "I just got word from McGonagall, I passed her final quiz thanks to you."

"Why, you're welcome, Ronald." Hermione flashed him a grateful smile, as she sipped from the cup hungrily. The scent of all the fruits was so good and quite overwhelming.

Before Draco could attempt to steal the goblet from her, wanting to take a sip of the mouth-watering smoothie too, Celine came sprinting down the aisle of the Great Hall, arm outstretched to Hermione "Theo needs to speak with you." She breathed

"Wha—huh?" She could barely comprehend, when Celine grabbed her hand, tugging quickly "Wait, just—just let me finish this." She exclaimed

With four consecutive huge gulps, Hermione downed the entire goblet of fruit smoothie, and followed after Celine down the aisle.

"Hey! I wanted some of that! It smelled good!" Draco protested

"Sorry, mate." Ron snickered, liking the little inside joke "Maybe next time."

"Where did you even get that shit, Weasley? Hook me up with some of that." Hermione heard Draco complain just as Celine pulled her away, taking her to the end of the hall, where Theo stood looking like he'd just seen a ghost.

"You look like you've seen a ghost." Hermione commented, hand over her belly. Running like that wasn't bad for the baby, was it?

"Close enough. He saw his father." Celine muttered "I'll leave you two to talk, while I deliver the news to the rest."

"News? What news?" Hermione frowned, but Celine was already walking away "Teddy?"

"I have to leave, just for a day or two, I think." Theo looked at her with an unreadable expression, but Hermione could swear she saw fear in them "I thought my father came only to check if the potion he helped us brew was fine, but...Rodolphus is angry, Hermione."

Hermione's heart sank. She forgot that out of all of them, it was Theo that was putting himself in the most danger.

He had the most to lose—his friends, his lover, and his father.

He had everything to lose.

"Oh, Merlin. Theo, no. You can't go back there—"

"My father got to reason with him to spare my life. I have to go and help collect a manticore for the battle." Theo whispered "I—I'm honestly afraid, Hermione."
