A hooded figure headed out the front doors, a crisp wind blowing about his hair. The Hogwarts grounds looked magestic in the morning fog, the hills poking out between breaks in the low clouds. A small figure could be seen flying around near the goalpoasts, wearing scarlet Gryffindor robes. Just as suspected. McLaggen was out for a morning practice as keeper. The hooded figure quickened his step.
As soon as McLaggen had caught sight of him approaching, he frowned and swooped down from the air, coming to a slow stop at the ground.
"What do you want, Weasley?" McLaggen said aggressively, dismounting his Nimbus 2000. Ron gave a dark chuckle.
"I'd suggest that you rethink your attitude, McLaggen. I've got an offer that I know you can't refuse."
McLaggen faltered at this, setting down his broom.
"What are you playing at?" he asked suspiciously. Ron smiled triumphantly. He had McLaggen right where he wanted him.
"I'll skip formalities and get straight to the point. You fancy Hermione."
McLaggen made no objection, but instead gave a laugh.
"I mean you can't blame me, Weasley, the girl's gorgeous."
Ron scoffed. He couldn't stand this idiot. But if he wanted Hermione back, this was going to have to work.
"I know she is," Ron said, attempting to calm his anger. "But she's with Malfoy, I'm sure you've noticed?" Ron reminded him. McLaggen glared at the ground.
"Oh I've noticed all right. They were all over each other at that party Granger threw last week."
Ron nodded. "You're going to help me break them up," he proposed confidently. McLaggen paused, as if thinking the situation through.
"But how would that work?" he hypothesized. "You and me both want Granger. We can't just split her in two, even if the plan succeeds."
"Don't sweat it, mate. I'm over Hermione," Ron lied. "All I want is revenge on that Malfoy snake. After we're through with them, you can have Granger and I get to see Malfoy crash and burn."
McLaggen shrugged.
"That's sounds like a bloody good deal, Weasley. Me and Granger."
Ron gritted his teeth and forced a smile.
"Yes, that's it. You and Hermione, together. All of that can happen, if you help me with this."
McLaggen's mind was in another place as he fantasized his relationship with Hermione.
"Okay, yeah, I'll help," he agreed, nodding vigorously. Ron whooped inwardly.
"Good," he said. "We need to get some leverage on Malfoy. Something that we can hold against him, make him think that if he doesn't do what we say Hermione's gonna get hurt."
McLaggen stroked his nonexistent facial hair. "Will that work?" he asked. "What if Draco doesn't care about Granger?"
Ron scoffed.
"Have you seen the two together? Snogging like lovebirds, just last night! Of course he cares for her. Just as much as she cares for him."
McLaggen shrugged.
"Alright then, I'm on board. What do you need me to do?" he asked.
Ron gave an evil grin.
"I need you to get Draco angry. Like, really angry. Make him think that Hermione's unfaithful. Then the Slytherin snake will be so jealous that he'll go and bang another Hogwarts girl, like he always does. Boom, their romance comes to an end."
McLaggen grinned. "I like that."
"Alright then," Ron said, holding out his hand for McLaggen to shake. "Let's sink this ship."
