The convent was about an hour away from where I stayed presently but I usually didn't mind the distance whenever I had to visit Anaïs. After all, I did promise I'd do so and I could only imagine the look on her face when she saw who came along.
It annoyed me to see how impenetrable Rowen's defenses were. There was never any telling what was going on in his head, it was like he put his feelings under lock and key, only showing what he wanted or needed. For as long as I'd known him as a sane man, he was always that way.
His impenetrable attitude did lend him an air of mystery and ominousness. The kind that made one curious and drove one mad at the same time. A beautiful yet undeniably powerful effect.
Sometimes, I liked to daydream about being able to pull it off, or better still, I'd daydream about him letting me see beyond his defenses. But I knew what that would mean...and I was just some girl who he felt he was indebted to, and, of course, he'd given his heart to another.
