"You are welcome" a muscular voice boomed as I walked into a large hall with Nelson by my side.
Looking up, before me was a large dining table, members of the royal family sat staring at me as I approached the table along with Nelson who stood beside me not caring to take a look at me.
Sitting at the end of the table was a large man with long shaved beards, his sharp green eyes shone as he watched me, it looked like he was studying me, an expression which made me very uncomfortable and without thinking twice, I know it's no one else but the Alpha, Nelson's father.
Timidly, I watched Nelson sit, there was an empty seat next to him, looking away as everyone in the table stared at me, my heart couldn't stop racing so I sat next to Nelson avoiding their gaze.
"Well…it's good to have everyone present here for breakfast" the Alpha's voice boomed out as it echoed loudly.
I didn't dare to look up, my eyes fixed to my hand as I slowly rubbed it together.
"Melissa" I heard my name.
Gulping really hard, I gazed up only to find the Alpha staring at me so bluntly. There was a certain look in his eyes that made me very unsure of myself, a look that speaks of nothing but complete dissatisfaction.
"It's rude of you to just have your seat without acknowledging my present" The Alpha stated harshly.
Quickly, I stood my ground, "I am very sorry, I had no idea" I quickly responded with my head bowed, my heart racing faster than ever.
"You should have been taught!" The Alpha continued, "This is not the land of humans but werewolves, we have certain rules that every new bride should follow and clearly, you have broken two of them"
Confused, I slowly raised my eyes on him, a frown rested on my face, "I have?" I mumbled with fright. The thought of me saying anything to annoy him gripped my heart so hard.
"Yes! Two Melissa! Two!" His voice boomed.
Still confused, I glanced at Nelson who sat still not saying a word or looking at me. He had his eyes fixed to the empty plate before him, his expressionless face stood still.
"I am sorry Alpha" I bowed knowing fully well that he is being regarded as that. "I have no idea when I might have broken them, really sorry about this" I apologized.
At first, the Alpha didn't say a word, he watched me intensively, "An apology won't solve it, you are now a part of this family. Rules have been set and all that is meant is for you to follow them. You missed the party held for you and my son and right now, you came in without giving your full obedience, this isn't the way things are done in here" he stated bluntly and I could help but wonder why he sounds so angry like I must have upset him. The tone of his voice was so harsh that I didn't dare to look at the faces of the other members present.
Suddenly, I heard a chuckle opposite me, I glanced up only to find a red head staring at me with a smirk on her face. She watched me hardly, her eyes filled with deception.
"She isn't up to Prince Nelson standard" I heard her say, her words accompanied with a scoff.
"She must have been a peasant for her father to give her away so quickly. I must admit that her sister is far more pretty…" she paused averting her gaze to Nelson who sat still not saying a word, "No wonder you have been so tight ever since you arrived yesterday, anyone in your shoes will feel the same way, married to a pathetic human and a lady far below your standard" she spat with clear hatred in her voice.
"Enough Viviana!" The voice of the Alpha rang out and there was nothing but total silence.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I dared not to breathe out loud, it is clear that I am not being accepted here. How foolish of me to have thought that a werewolf pack will accept a mere human, I must be out of my mind to think of this, very.
"The food is getting cold, let's eat, I need to take my drugs" the Alpha announced and immediately, the rest of the family began to eat.
Fully embarrassed, I sat but at that moment, I lost my appetite completely. I glanced at the freshly prepared stake but the urge to eat vanished from me. All I wished at that moment was the ground to open and swallow me, I didn't even dare to look up, my eyes not leaving my plate filled with food untouched.
No one seems to notice that I didn't touch my food, maybe they did but just don't care, not like I expect them to. Realizing how shitty my life had become, all I wanted was to leave but I became scared to leave alone without Nelson.
Bittered, I felt betrayed that Nelson didn't say anything to defend me but say watching his father and the lady sitting opposite me ridicule me to the brim. Well of course, I was not expecting him to act so lovingly, of course, he doesn't like me not to talk of love.
Soon, breakfast was over, I walked out of the dining room with Nelson who still didn't say a word to me or look at me. He seemed so not interested and all I could do was bite my lower lip and walk side by side.
We got into the room and as I sat on the bed watching Nelson, the pictures of what occured at breakfast lingered in my head.
Nelson picked up a small dagger from his table, I watched curiously wondering what he might need that for but remembering that he isn't human but a beast, I decided to tie my tongue and not say a word to him.
Along with the dagger, Nelson walked out of the room still not adhering to my presence.
I sat on the bed, my eyes still glued to the door with so many thoughts overwhelming me.
Without realizing it, tears welled up in my eyes and I couldn't help it as it rolled down my face.
At that point, I had no idea why I was crying. I am sad, no doubt. Also embarrassed and I feel like I flith, the words of the lady at the breakfast rang in my head and I hope I never get to cross paths with her again. Nelson's father didn't make things easy for me too and it felt like a heavy burden was resting strongly on my shoulder and about to choke me to death.
A knock on the door brought me back into reality, quickly, I cleaned my tears focusing my attention back on the door.
"Who is there?" I asked in a husky voice.
"It's I, Annabelle" I heard a female voice call out from the outside.
Confused, of course, I have no idea who she might be, I am still a new bride here in the pack.
"Do come in" I muttered and the door slowly opened.
Walking in was a young lady, although she looked a few years older than I am, I couldn't help but admire her great beauty, long black hair that flowed to her waist region and her blue eyes which glittered from afar.
She walked towards me, a friendly smile plastered on her face. At first, I thought she might be a new maid sent to me by Nelson but the red dress she wore spoke of nothing but royalty and I quickly dashed the thought off my head.
"I know you are surprised to see me, you don't know who I am yet" she spoke out in a very lovely voice, the smile departing from her face.
I nodded, unable to speak up.
To my surprise, she walked towards the bed I sat on, sat next to me, our eyes locked together.
"I am sorry about the way my father treated you a few minutes ago at the dining" she let out looking at me with nothing but compassion.
Speechless, I stared at the beauty before me, she looked way beautiful to give a shit about a human like me.
"Why are you apologizing?" I found myself asking, at once, I regretted it.
"I am sorry, I don't mean to be rude, I am just surprised you decide to visit me and apologize on behalf of your father's behavior" I quickly chipped in feeling totally stupid.
To my surprise, she Chuckled, the dimples on her cheeks appeared and I could help but really admire her.
"It's our duty to make you feel welcome and not the other way round…" she paused, the smile still on her, "I don't know what came over my father, but you don't have to worry about him" she said.
"But why?" I couldn't help but ask.
Gently, she moved closer to me, a look on her face told me at once that whatever she wanted to tell me might be a secret, "You don't have to worry about it because my father will be gone soon" she whispered and I gasped in shock.
