Chapter ten…but why

I stared at the door for what seemed like eternity. The tears slowly rolled down my face as his words ran through my mind.

Did he save me?

I asked myself very ity flickering eyeballs, my mind unable to figure out what to believe and what not to.

If he really did save me, how did he know that I was out in the woods at that same time? How?!

My mind was about to explode due to the excess questions and migraine that was taking the best of me.

An hour passed by gradually, a maid came into the room, cleaned my room and brought in some food for me to eat. Even though there was no appetite for me to eat, I just had to force myself and eat something not to anger Nelson and the members of his family.

The face of the alpha flashed through my mind and my heart couldn't help but skip. His face brought Goosebumps to my skin and I could help but feel it each time I remembered how harshly he spoke to me.

Tired of thinking and worrying about my pain, I decided to fall asleep, maybe I might have a better dream that will take me out of the nightmare I am living in.

Few days went faster than expected. During this time, I stayed locked up reading varieties of werewolf novels just to understand how my life was going to be at that point. The bruise on my leg begins to heal and I know that with no time, I will be back on my feet.

The relationship between Nelson and I is cold and distant. It wasn't a surprise to me, after all, it's obvious that he doesn't want to have anything to do with me. Most nights, he doesn't come into the room with me but only returns by morning just to have his shower and leave again.

I didn't care

Of course!

I was happy with the way things were between us.

I don't love him

Neither does him

A perfect match!

But at times, I couldn't help but pray he gets tired and cuts off the marriage. Maybe by then, I will be free and I will be able to live my life the way it pleases me and not be bound by laws.

"You don't look happy ma'am Melissa" Patricia asked as she bathed me gently, the scented candle filled the whole room.

I smiled, "No I am fine"

"You don't look fine to me" Patricia chipped in.

"I don't?"

She nodded, her hands gently rubbing mine, "You are my mistress and it is my duty to serve you and at the same time keep you happy at all cost. But with the expression on your face, it is clear that you are being bored and you want to keep it all to yourself."

Hearing her words, I let out a loud sigh. I and Patricia has become close these past one week of me coming in but at the same time, that didn't make me want to completely trust her with my problem, she is a werewolf, a beautiful one at that and I am just a human, my mind couldn't help but think that she might spill the tea.

"I am fine Patricia, they are just mere thoughts, nothing else" I replied giving her a warm smile.

Nodding, Patricia continued with her work, soon I was dressed and laid on a chair, Patricia slowly brushing my hair.

Suddenly, a knock on the door alerted us.

"Come in"

The door opened and a younger maid walked in. She quickly bowed, an act which I still find very weird due to the development of the world.

"The princess asks that you join her for tea at the royal garden" she announced as politely as she could, her head still not raised.

"The princess?" I raised a brow looking very surprised that one of the princesses invited me for a tea time.

"Yes, Princess Anabelle. She is seated waiting patiently, she ask that you join her"

I glanced at Patricia who nodded with a smile.

"My lady will be there very soon" Patricia said and with a bow, the young maid walked out of the room.

Together with Patricia, we got out of the room and headed to the garden. Dressed in a red flowy gown which made my walking quite difficult, I looked around admiring the passing maids who bowed at every encounter with me.

"Look who we have here" Anabelle got up, her face filled with smiles.

"Good to see you Melissa," she said, giving me a hug.

Surprised by her kind act, I hugged her with a smile on my face, the touch of the soft wind on my skin felt so good.

"Good to see you too Annabelle" I replied as I took a seat next to her.

Surrounding us were trees of different kinds and flowers that smelled so nice. The atmosphere was so beautiful and it looks like it's been taken care of daily.

"You like it here huh?" Anabelle asked, staring at me.

I nodded, "Yes, I do, it's lovely"

"You can say that again. This is my favorite spot here in the pack and I just can't help but come here to spend my private time so I guess it won't hurt inviting you to enjoy such beauty with me. Or were you busy with something?"

I chuckled at her words. I was about to die out of boredom and it felt like she rescued me before I got consumed.

"No way" I shook my head, "I had nothing on my hands so it's really a good way to Interact with nature"

Anabelle nodded, not saying a word. A maid came by, poured some tea into an empty tea cup and handed it to me.

"I heard what happened to you, I am very sorry about that" She spoke up, her eyes filled with pity.

Of course, I knew that she was talking about my encounter deep in the woods and I wondered how many werewolves present in the pack must have heard it.

"Is it everywhere?" I whispered

Anabelle chuckled at my question, "Just within the royal household"

"I am sure your father must have heard it. He will be certain that I am a terrible pair for his son" I said letting out a loud sigh.

"Come on Melissa, you don't have to worry about the old hag. To be honest, I really admire what you did, no one here in the royal household have ever crossed the walls of this pack, you are pretty brave I must confess"

Confused, I stared at her with a frown fixed to my face, "Are you saying that it is forbidden to leave the pack?"

"Yes, it is forbidden for royals"

"But why?"

"Due to security reasons. My father believes that we have tons of enemies from rival packs who will do anything to get back at us. That's what happened to you and thank goodness my brother was able to save you on time" she took a sip out of her cup, the gentle smile not leaving her face.

Feeling very stupid, I gulped really hard.

"But how did your brother know exactly where I was?" I implored curiously.

"According to him, he came into the room, didn't find you in there and his Instincts told him right off the bat that you aren't present in the pack…" she paused looking at my confused face, "I know that you might not understand all that I am saying. But it's an Alpha thing, they get to find things faster than ever, so, with the presence of your scent and that of another werewolf, he was able to locate you and save you" she explained and took another sip from her tea cup.

"I guess I did the wrong thing going off into the woods alone"

Anabelle nodded as the maid filled her tea cup, "True Melissa, you should never go in there alone. The woods are far more dangerous than you think, what you did was a risk and I guess the moon goddess was on your side and saved you. You are just a mere human, you can't fight a werewolf because you aren't trained to do so nor do you have much knowledge on it. You have to learn from the start to avoid such befalling you again."

My head spinned really confused, "That's it! That's the problem, I am a human and not a freaking Werewolf! How do you expect me to know all these? Even the books handed to me isn't helping me at all, I am so frustrated, I don't know what else to do"

A broad smile appeared on Anabelle's. Taking a sip, she laid her tea cup gently, a weird expression on her face.

"Worry no more Melissa, I have someone you need to meet, someone who will tell you all that you need to know" she revealed, her dimples becoming clear and sharp.
