Demon Lord Kaan

>>Sorin

Enri froze in his place in displeasure and shock, “With all due respect your highness, are you crazy?” The guards behind Enri panicked even more at Enri’s words. I guess my reputation reaches way down here too.

“Do what I’m telling you to.” I ordered him.

Enri stood his ground, “No,” He looked at Kaan, “He’s dangerous.”

I rolled my eyes, “Give me the keys then.” I glared at him and then looked at the guard, “The keys!” I yelled and then stepped forward. The fat guard moved towards me with trembling hands while trying to reach for the key in his pocket.

Enri stepped in between us, “Why are you doing this?”

“I have my reasons.” I reply

“You can’t do this!” He said, “If you free that man in there, we’re all done for.”

I looked at the man in the cell, “Oh? But I can do it.” And stood my ground, “I am the king, I can do anything I want.”

The guard had the keys out so I just pushed Enri to the side and snatched the keys from the fat guy, then moved to open the gate.

It was when I entered that I noticed Kaam had his eyes on me. His long hair was covering some of his face but I could still see the glowing red eye that was fixed on me.

“Your majesty!” Enri grabbed my arm, “Don’t,”

“Sir Enri,” I looked at him, “Leave.” I told him, “I no longer need you.” Then I looked at the other two guards, “And you two as well. You don’t need to be here anymore if there isn’t a prisoner to oversee.”

“Y-your majesty.” The skinner guard spoke, “That’s the demon king,”

I sighed. We keep doing this over and over again, “If you don’t leave.” I said, “You’re all fired.” They froze at my words and I looked at Enri.

He was furious, he tightened his grip on the lamp as he gritted his teeth and let my arm go, then he turned to leave. The other two nervously followed him and I waited till I could no longer hear any footsteps.

I then looked at kaan again.

“Hey…Hi?” Honestly I didn’t think this through, about what to say to him. I’m not much of a detailed planner. He kept his eyes on me and I realized that he can’t really speak, “Oh!” I shook my head at my own stupidity, “Sorry,” I moved forward to remove the steel gag around his mouth.

Damn.

How strong is this man? He had such a heavy thing on him for about a whole year??

I unlocked the gag and removed it, only to realize that it was actually heavier than I thought.

“Shit!” I struggled with it a bit but managed to put it aside.

But now, I couldn’t look at him. I got the gist of what he went through with just the gag and it was hard to face an innocent prisoner after that.

He is the second true king in the book, ‘True kings’, a character who didn’t deserve this treatment but was still treated like shit. The pride of one single person who wanted to show off, ended up in the destruction of his whole nation. The sad part is, Cedric died before he could face the consequences of his actions. This was another annoying part of the book. Cedric was the one truly at fault, but his kids had to suffer instead of him. Maybe Sorin had a part in the destruction because she wasn’t a good king but still, Cedric should have seen where his actions led to.

I sighed,

The reason the novel is named True kings is because at the end of the novel, the two kingdoms get their true kings to rule their nation. After horrible destruction, war and so much bloodshed on both sides. Kaan and Leonidas come to realize that if they continue, nothing will be left of either of them and they call a truce, they then meet up and condemn all that had happened and end their wars. They build their nations again and then become the supreme leaders.

Happy ending right?

Well, no. What about the people who were mercilessly massacred? What about the people who were peaceful and innocent but ended up getting brutally murdered in war? What about the kids? What about the consequences of war, the orphans? The injured? The destruction?

And what about me?

I know what’s going to happen to me and I really don’t want that to happen. I would like to stop it before any of ‘that’ comes true.

I took a deep breath, “You don’t know me,” I started with my head still down, “I’m the firstborn of King Cedric- well, late King Cedric, he’s dead now and I was crowned king just a day ago.” I glanced up at him but froze when I saw something.

His jaw was slightly ajar.

The scene was horrifying enough that it made my heart skip a beat and then jump straight to pounding like a drum.

His jaw was broken and now stuck there because of the heavy steel gag that had been there in his mouth for months!

I pursed my lips together in alarm and panic. I actually felt afraid but not of him, of what was done to him.

I felt weak in the knees and my emotions overwhelmed so much tears just flew out of my eyes and streamed down.

Shit!

What am I doing!! I wiped them away immediately and looked away.

“I can’t apologize enough to you.” I clenched my fists, “It will never be enough for the treatment you got here.” I chewed my lower lip, “But I still am sorry for what my father did to you.” I backed away a little and went on my knees to bow to him with my head on the floor.

There were no words from him, well, it’s like he could say anything but there was no action from him either. On that note he was tied up too.

God damnit!!

I so stupid!!

I raised my head and looked at him again. He still had his gaze on me and I gulped. He was tortured so much here yet he didn’t break. The look in his eyes is so fierce!

I moved forward again.

“I’ll use my magic to help heal you.” He didn’t move, not even a finger.

I closed my eyes and moved my hands next to his jaw but I didn’t touch him. I don’t have much mana but there should be enough to heal him.

I was able to summon some light, so I should be able to do this. Sorin didn’t have any special ability that made him stand out but in the spinoff, it showed that she had healing magic even though her magical abilities weren’t great, they were enough for one person.

‘Heal’ I imagined the power coming out of my hands and healing him.

A few seconds passed and then a light glowed out of my hands, a navy blue dark mist went around his mouth and I started hearing a cracking sound. I opened my eyes to see his jaw relocating and changing back to its original form. Since my magical abilities aren’t great, it took some time for me to heal just his jaw but I was able to finish the job. After that, I applied some of my healing magic to his overall body. I didn’t have much left and my magic probably wasn’t enough to fully heal someone like the demon king himself but I did what I could.

After I was done I sat on my knees and waited for him to say something but he didn’t. Honestly I can’t guarantee anything that will happen here. He might kill me if I release him and there is a pretty high chance of that happening.

I gulped.

But I have to release him. I can’t risk war on the other end.

I looked back at the gates and then back at Kaan, “Kaan?” I called his name, “Please say something.” I looked at his face which was still covered by his disheveled hair so I moved forward a bit and gently, very softly, moved his hair aside and tucked them behind his ear, “I want to help.” I spoke softly, then sat back down but got no answer again.

But this time, I got a nice view of his face. He was tattered, hurt and skinnier for obvious reasons, yet I could tell he was handsome.

“Kaan?” His red eyes were still on me, “I only want your word.” I look into his eyes, “Please cooperate with me, only a handful of people know you’re here, rest everyone is oblivious. I don't want any violence so please.” I went closer to him, “Please,” I slipped my hand on his arm, “Let me take care of you peacefully.” I unlocked his right arm and as I did his arm dropped next to his torso. Then I moved to the left arm and did the same.

No action from him still.

Honestly, I had run out of words to say. What more could I say now, especially when he wasn’t even responding to me?

I took a deep breath and looked at him. He was still silently staring at me. A little bit disappointed, I moved towards his feet. I could feel his gaze on me, which for some reason, was getting more intense by the second, but I still continued. I opened the heavy anti magic cuffs on his left leg and then his right but then it happened.

It was something I was expecting, what he did next, only that, I was hoping it wouldn’t. I had my hopes pinned on it but they were shattered.

The moment Kaan was free from the shackles that pained him, he jumped on me, making me fall flat on my back and wrapped his hands around my neck to squeeze it.

“Don’t,” I placed my hands on his to stop him, “Kaan, I’m here to help.” I tried to remove his big study hands but it didn’t work.

Again, he didn’t say anything and kept strangling me. I tapped his arms because I couldn’t do anything to stop him.

I felt my breathing stop.

The world started going black as my vision started to blur, “You won’t get out without my help. Enri will do anything to stop you and you already know how strong he is.” My voice was squealing and with every word it was lowering down, “Let me help you. Please.”

I tapped his arms but soon I couldn’t feel any energy in me and they dropped to my side.

“Kaan,” My oxygen was up, “Please… Trust me…” And I fell into darkness.
