24. Complication and Hope

Luka looked at you with a firm expression, careful to not let his emotions show themselves.

"Is that why you canceled the rest of your tour?" He asked you and he noticed the way your hand was now shaking, and wondered if it had been like that the whole night.

Luka had been very devoted to his career as soon as he found a company to sell too. He one day hoped to pick up enough traction in the market to open his own shop, but he needed much more money and customers to do that.

While he did keep up with news on you from time to time, he often had two to three week periods where he never left his studio. His art, his craft—was all he had most days.

It was the only thing that gave him fulfillment.

So he dedicated himself to it.

You nodded with a similar firm expression. You were much better at concealing your emotions than he was. It was incredible to say the least, you used to be horrible at it.

"What about Adrien? How is he doing, and why are you separated?" Luka questioned.

You took in a deep, anxious breath. "Well he's a suspect." Your voice was low in case anyone around you was listening.

"A suspect? For?"

"They believe he was working with his father. Gabriel's assistant and Adrien's bodyguard were arrested to. It only makes sense to take Adrien in as well right?" You asked with an irritated laugh.

"Adrien would never!" Luka whisper yelled, hoping to not draw any attention, even though the whole situation was infuriating.

"Trust me, I know." You sighed as you rubbed your temples. "I think we could make a good case for him, it's only convenient to think he was involved. They have no evidence on him rather than the fact that he lived there."

"He hasn't for years though right?" Luka asked and you shook your head.

"No. The two of us travel constantly for work, but we do have a house just outside of the city. So Dakota at least has some place he can call home." You smiled gently and wiped away the tear that had begun to fall.

"What's the point of you two being separated?" His question was gentle.

"I don't want to be, but we got into an argument before I left for Italy. We were working on figuring things out when I got a call from Zoe saying that Gabriel was arrested. Adrien was supposed to come to Italy that night but they were already looking to bring him in. Adrien and I decided to keep our relationship and our son a secret from the media, so no ties were drawn back to me. Dakota wasn't planned, but we want him to have the most normal life possible."
