[ Lucifer Morningstar
The Prince of Darkness ]
"Well, it was about time", Athos sighed to himself, placing the book back on the table. He had already been introduced to one mega - Pantheon and it was just a matter of time before he was introduced to the biggest one of them all.
He closed his eyes and ran his hands through his hair taking in what he had just read. Merlinus Ambrosius' or Merlin's end was never really decided upon. In some stories, he would just disappear while in some he would be trapped by either his lover or his student.
According to his book, he was trapped by his student who was probably his lover, seeing that he'd described her as his beloved. She had either been influenced by or was a part of the 'Blessed' organisation - whatever that was. Was Merlin targeted for his heritage? After all, he was told to be half-Incubus in many legends...
A suspicious scaled being had helped Merlin escape his torment and given the existence of Lucifer, wasn't it reasonable to assume demons exist too? Was it a demon that had offered Merlin a way out? Merlin did mention that the 'Blessed' had put in more effort in capturing him due to him taking that hand.
"There's only one way to find out", Athos picked the book back up, hoping the next few pages had the answers to his questions.
[ That is no small feat, mind you. No other being in all of creation has matched his feat of ascending to a Primordial. The only other being who could somewhat match his rise to power is Sun Wukong, the Qitian Dasheng, yet even he is nothing but an ordinary monkey before the might of a Primordial.
Moving on, the only two races of Higher Immortals that I've deeply studied are the Demons, and their counterparts, the Angels, the reason being the former assisting in my escape from my eternal torment.
Ironic, I know.
If I wish to describe the Demon race, then Lucifer's story must be told, and if I have to do that, then I must first explain what soul properties are.
As I've mentioned when describing Divinity - the energy that sets the boundary between Higher and Lesser Immortals - properties are greatly limiting, immensely so.
Think of it as an attribute or a trait of the soul. It could be anything from the most common ones - Earth and Air, Water and Fire to far more abstract concepts such as Time and Endurance, Misery and Strength, War and Peace. These 'Soul Properties' are absent in almost all mortals in creation, and those who do have them, go their short lives completely oblivious to that fact.
For most Higher Immortal Races, their soul property limits the ways they can use their Divinity but at the same time is their only ticket to becoming a Primordial.
If, for example, a Higher Immortal possess' the Soul Property of Water, they can only apply their Divinity in such a way that it conforms to their property. They cannot use their Divinity to conjure fire out of thin air, nor can they manipulate the earth nor can they form city-eradicating hurricanes. But at the same time, they can use their Divinity to call upon rain, form Tsunamis, and swallow archipelagoes. Yet, a small flame can be challenging.
This is the reason why races such as the Theonites are so powerful. Zeus, the Cosmos king of the Theonites, is known for having two properties, Lightning and Order. Yet, he could flood an entire town in saltwater if he wished to but he would have to use far, far more Divinity than if he unleashed a lightning storm.
Of course, once said Immortal ascends to a Primordial, such absurd limitations would be easily overcome and it is common for Immortals to have multiple Soul properties, but a limitation is a limitation.
Now that I've got 'Soul properties' out of the way, let me begin with a tale suffused with betrayal and love, hatred and kindness and an unending thirst for power.
The story of Lucifer Morningstar.
A tale of the divine and the demonic. ]
'So there's a large difference between Lesser and Higher Immortals where only Higher Immortals can use Divinity. Higher Immortals are further divided into different species depending on the Pantheon. Different Pantheons may have different power systems such as the Greek soul-body fusion method but the final stage of all power systems leads to an Immortal becoming a Primordial. Immortals without a Soul property cannot become a Primordial', Athos summarised in his head, digesting the large pile of information.
'Wait, do I have a Soul Property?', Athos suddenly thought. He had been told that he was tainted with Khaos and it was the reason for his title of 'FateBreaker'. The Ritual had increased said taint but was it really a Soul Property? Can Properties be inherited? His taint sure seemed different compared to Zeus' inherent property of Lightning.
He thought about it for a few seconds but shook his head after. He would cross that bridge when he got there. He had no idea how to ascend, and thinking about his Primordial ascension now was laughable. The only known being to have ever done so was Lucifer Morningstar and that was out of the numerous Immortals in all of existence.
He shook his head once more, shifting his attention back to the book. He had absolutely no clue how other mythologies would change to fit the Riordan Universe as he really wasn't a fan of the other two mythology series written by the same author. Thus, he had no idea if said mythology series were canon in this universe.
Moreover, He still had no clue how Hindu Mythology was in this universe even though he had met one of the most powerful beings in it and Abrahamic mythology in particular was one he was even more confused about.
He turned the page, anticipation evident on his face but it lasted for but a fraction of a second.
"Fuck! Of course, it had to be blank! Just when the most interesting part comes up!", Athos swore, staring at a blank page. He flipped through the rest of the pages hoping that the rest would be filled in, but it was in vain. The last few pages were completely blank as though Merlin had forgotten about them.
"This can't be it...", Athos squinted at the blank pages. "There has to be a reason."
He examined every blank page from top to bottom, flipping through every single one with care before he finally found something. He noticed that every time his fingers touched a blank page, faint ripples would emanate from its surface as though he was touching water. It was incredibly faint and something he would have never caught if he didn't have enhanced eyesight.
"Is it the Mist?", Athos asked, confused. Was the mist preventing him from reading about other mythologies? No, that couldn't be it. If that's the case, every page in the book would be blank, including the author's name.
"Well, I guess I'll have to bring it up with Hecate", Athos sighed and placed the book in his watch, deeply disappointed at the fact that he was unable to read further but that emotion vanished the moment he looked at the giant bookshelf in the room.
He got up from his comfy chair and walked up to it, his every step echoing in the silent library.
The other three books in Circe's collection were her personal journals. Although they were immensely valuable as they contained detailed descriptions of her numerous experiments, he ignored them for now, his attention shifting to the 'Everything Magic' section. This was one of the main reasons why he'd wanted access to Circe's library.
"Finally...", He said, reaching out for a book titled [ A Basic Introduction to Magic Systems ]
