Hearing Helen's question, Ellie just smiled. She walked back to her room and got ready for work.

Working and training as a resident are quite complex. Moreover, Ellie specializes in general surgery. She had a lot to learn and do.

However, Ellie's intelligence and dexterity are no longer in doubt. Some of her mentors who used to look down on her because they thought she was using the back door have all now gone silent.

They even end up fighting over her to help them as their assistant in surgery.

"Ellie! Continue!"

Ellie nodded. Ellie deftly continued suturing the incision made by her mentor and finished it in a fairly short time, neat and perfect.

Satisfied. That was how Ellie's mentor felt.

In contrast to Ellie herself, she became exhausted because she had to run from one operating theater to another as per their orders.

Her comrades became extremely jealous and often tried to bring her down by making her job difficult or falsely accusing her, as was the case now.

"Professor, I want to administer penicillin to this patient. Ellie, however, forbade me," reported one of Ellie's comrades.

Hearing her colleague's complaint, Ellie just stood quietly with no single word out of her mouth.

Ellie's mentor then took the patient's medical history, which was hanging in front of the bed. Surprisingly, he then threw it at her.

"Before accusing your colleague and injecting the penicillin, have you read his medical history? Huh?! If Ellie hadn't stopped you, you would have killed the patient!" Ellie's mentor, who was also the head of the surgical division, snapped.

"Ellie, handle beds 3, 6, and 8. They need intensive supervision," the middle-aged man ordered as he left the ward with an angry expression all over his face.

"Yes, Professor."

Ellie's overtime tasks increased. But no complaints came out of her mouth. From childhood until now, she was used to sleeping for a few hours only.

Two things stuck in her mind. She needed to succeed in order to make her mother proud and to provide the best care for her.

Beep beep...

Ellie got a notification on her phone. She reached into her pocket and read the message.

"Alexandra isn't feeling well. Come back and take care of her."

Ellie took a deep breath and exhaled roughly. Disobeyed? Impossible. She is well aware of Noah's temper. She may have had Noah's mother by her side, but that man will undoubtedly find a way to make her miserable.

She then approached the nurse's station and removed her white robe.

"Do you know where Doctor Holmes is?" She asked a nurse who was present, but all she got was a shake of the head.

Ellie pursed her lips. She took out her cell phone and dialed her mentor.

"Doctor Holmes? I'm Ellie Lynn. May I have a minute?" Ellie politely asked when the call was answered.

"What's the matter, Doctor Lynn? I'm on my way home. Just say it."

Ellie bit her lower lip. She was certain that her mentor would chastise her. This was not the first time she had requested leave.

But, if she leaves her post abruptly, she will almost certainly face a warning letter or even a score reduction.

"Don't say that you want to ask for leave again, Doctor Lynn?" Doctor Holmes, Ellie's mentor, immediately shot her with a very precise question.

"Ehm, y-yes, Doc. I—"

"No! How many times have you insisted on requesting leave? Do you know what rumors are going around about you and me? They say I favor you because Mrs. Anderson is on your side! "

Ellie sighed. As expected, but if she doesn't come home, then...

"Doctor, I'm sorry. But this—"

"I must either fail you or resign! Choose!"

Ellie opened her mouth. He took a deep breath, then bit her lip.

"All right, Doctor. I won't ask for it."

No choice. This time, she had to disobey Noah. Becoming a doctor is her goal. Only by becoming a doctor will she then have the opportunity to cure her mother's illness.

All night, Ellie did her task. Examining post-surgery patients and also being a surgeon's assistant.

At Noah's mansion, Helen just smiled when she saw that Alexandra was having a hard time making soup for herself.

"Don't burn this kitchen, Miss," Helen sneered as she put the cloth she had folded into the kitchen cupboard.

Alexandra threw the rag in her hand and turned to look at Helen. "If you don't want me to burn down the kitchen, why don't you just make some soup for me?"

Helen chuckled. The woman stood, propping herself up on the kitchen table. "Who are you? What kind of status do you have in this house that I have to serve you, hm?"

Alexandra's face reddened. Her emotions immediately ignited. Helen's mouth was getting sharper and sharper by the day.

"And you, aren't you just a maid, Helen?" replied Alexandra with her piercing eyes.

Helen nodded. "Hmm. Yes. I am a servant. But I am the servant of the Anderson family. Not the Joneses."

Helen slowly turned her body and left the kitchen after saying that, leaving Alexandra fuming with anger.

"Screw you!" Alexandra hissed. She gritted her teeth and clenched her fist. "Why would Noah keep someone like that here?" Alexandra grumbled and resumed her cooking activities.

"Ah!"

Clank!

Ellie's job was done when the sun came up. She repeatedly inhaled and exhaled in the taxi. Getting ready to accept Noah's rage for disobeying his orders.

Ring...

Her cheap cell phone rang. With trembling hands and closed eyes, she reached into her pocket. She was sure it was from Noah.

However, when she saw that it was the hospital where her mother was being treated, her hands trembled even more, and she opened her eyes wide.

"H-hello?"

Ellie's eyes glazed over for a moment. She gulped and nodded repeatedly before she hung up the phone.

"Sir, please take me to Hope hospital," Ellie pleaded with tears in her eyes to the taxi driver.

The taxi driver nodded. He quickly turned his wheels around and changed direction.

"Miss, think positively. Everything will be fine," said the driver, holding out a tissue box to Ellie.

In the midst of her tears, Ellie forced a smile. "Thank you," Ellie said softly as she took the tissue box.

The attention of this stranger warmed her heart. It was the first time she had received such attention from anyone other than Callie, her best friend, and Helen, her husband's maid.

"Miss, it's here."

Ellie gasped. She looked out the window and immediately opened the door.

"I'm sorry. I almost forgot. Here, sir," Ellie said as she handed the driver some cash.

The driver, on the other hand, just shook his head. "It appears that you require it more. Don't be late, just go."

Ellie was stunned. But she didn't have time to argue. She nodded and exited the taxi. "Thank you very much. I'll pay you someday!" Ellie exclaimed as she dashed away.

The cabbie removed his mask and smiled. "I was expecting your promise, Ellie."
