Uneasiness

Ellie was fully aware that, sooner or later, divorce would come knocking on her door. And she had prepared for it.

However, when she saw this piece of paper today, an indescribable sadness surged in her heart.

Moreover, not only did Noah not tell her where Mrs. Anderson was, but he also instructed his lover to ask her to sign the paper?

How ironic, isn't it?

Ellie lowered her eyes to hide the sadness in them. A faint smile appeared on her natural cherry lips.

Flashback to the night of their wedding three years ago, Noah went abroad and left her alone in their wedding chamber.

Of course, she knew very well that he was with his beloved woman, Alexandra.

She wanted to annul the marriage. But due to her mom's illness and the debt left by her late adoptive father, she had to swallow back her dignity.

Alexandra frowned as she looked at Ellie, who seemed to be in a daze. "Ellie, are you... changing your mind? Don't you want to sign it?"

Ellie collects her thoughts after hearing what Alexandra just stated. "No, that's not it. It's just... well like you said. Young Master should be the one to discuss this with me. So... I'd rather wait for him."

Alexandra sighed in annoyance and pursed her lips into a line. "Ellie, Noah is very busy. So, tell me. Do you want anything other than what's on the list?"

Ellie looked down at the divorce document she was holding. Noah had given her a villa on the outskirts of the city, his old car, and a $100,000 cheque.

What a gift!

"Noah can not offer you any more fortune since his family has already provided for your mom's treatment and your education. I hope you understand."

Ellie nodded. A trace of bitterness flashed across her eyes as she said calmly, "Yeah. He has given me a lot. My mom's treatment and my education indeed cost a lot of money. I ask no more. But I do need to talk to him. Therefore, I will wait till he has time for a little chat with me."

Seeing how decisive Ellie was, Alexandra suddenly felt a little frustrated. She pursed her lips, suppressing the anger in her heart. She smiled magnanimously.

"Ellie, please believe me. It was Noah himself who asked me to give you the paper since he had no time to—" Alexandra was going to continue explaining when Ellie's voice cut her off.

"I know. I believe you, but I do need to talk to him." Ellie firmly answered. "Please excuse me, Miss Alexandra. I'll make a move first. I have to go to work."

Ellie gave a nod of respect and walked away. Don't want to continue the conversation.

If stayed a little bit longer, she's afraid can not control her emotions and scratches that vixen's thick skin.

Alexandra's gentle eyes suddenly turned sharp as she watched Ellie walk away.

Ellie's feet slowed somewhat as she entered the lobby of the hospital. Many people stared at her with unusual and disdainful expressions.

However, she then took steady strides toward her supervisor's office, Dr. Holmes, not wanting to be troubled by them.

Knock! Knock!

After receiving permission from the room's owner, Ellie carefully opened the door and poked her head.

She saw Dr. Holmes sitting behind his desk and writing something.

"Doctor," Ellie greeted respectfully and drew a smile.

"Hm," Dr. Holmes hummed. He motioned with his hand for Ellie to enter without glancing at her but his paper on his desk. "What is it?"

"Doctor, I... thank you for the leave," Ellie stated hesitantly.

"Hmm."

Ellie folded her lips tightly. She was at a loss for words.

Dr. Holmes frowned as he realized Ellie was still standing before him. He raised his head and fixed his gaze on Ellie.

"Anything else?"

Ellie licked her bottom lip. She appeared to be hesitant to speak.

"Shoot!" Dr. Holmes snapped an instant.

Ellie stunned. She blinked, then gave an uneasy smile toward him.

"Well... I just had a question. Why are you willing to extend my leave? Was Doc—"

"So, you want people to think I was a cold-blooded supervisor? Look, I am your attending physician. In addition to teaching and educating, I am also responsible for monitoring and ensuring that you do not make mistakes at work.

As doctors, our job is to save patients. If I force you to keep working when your circumstances do not allow it and end up causing trouble, won't I be dragged into it?"

Ellie lowered her gaze and fell silent. She was well aware of this. But it was not the answer she sought.

Dr. Holmes sighed. "Ellie."

Ellie raised her head. She looked at her mentor with a calm face, although she was still anxious inside.

"Does Noah learn this?"

Ellie gasped. She parted her mouth slightly.

When Dr. Holmes saw her dumbfounded face, he got his answers. "Just as I thought. He has no idea, does he?"

Ellie gulped. She could not retort.

Ellie exited Dr. Holmes's office with a blank face. She was now in a dilemma.

Her uneasiness increased as soon as her suspicions were confirmed. Dr. Webber indeed informed him about the pregnancy.

"At the very least, notify Mrs. Anderson. She adores you as her own. Don't let her down just because you resent her son."

Dr. Holmes's advice rang in her mind.

No. She won't do it. Mrs. Anderson would not let her get divorced if she knew about it.

That cannot happen! She was so tired.

Her mind was exhausted as much as her body.

Noah had caused her too much pain. She'd had enough of the suffering and humiliation that man had done to her.

She didn't want to go through that again.

For her, this marriage is a nightmare that she wishes to terminate as soon as possible.

"Should I sign the paper now?" Ellie grumbled as she walked to do her routine. "But, will Mrs. Anderson stop funding mom's treatment by then?"

Ellie appeared unable to focus on her work that day. Her mind wandered around and took on her usual self.

Not sure how many times her mentor has chastised her and eventually punished her by completing a mountain of operation reports today.

"Ellie, it seems your wonderful skill has vanished because of too much time off," sneered Ellie's co-worker, Sophie.

"Don't get it wrong, probably because she's already losing Mrs. Anderson's favor! You know what that means? " exclaimed Belle, Ellie's other colleague.

"Wait, what? Will the fake Cinderella have to step down soon? " The other added and caused an uproar in that doctor's room.

As soon as he heard them, the man stood by the door to peek at Ellie, clenching his jaw.

His face became gloomy. His powerful aura caused his assistant, who stood next to him, to break out in a cold sweat.

"Is that true?" The man asked his assistant, who was standing nearby.

"It appears so, Young Master. Mrs. Anderson has not contacted her since five months ago."

The man sighed and sadly gazed at Ellie before ultimately leaving after giving some orders to his assistant.

As the moon began to hide its beauty and the sun was about to replace it, Ellie switched off the computer and prepared to go home.

She grabbed her cell phone from her desk drawer and found dozens of calls from an unknown number.

When she re-dialed the number, all she got was a busy tone.

Ellie wrinkled her brows. She mumbled as she looked at the log number on the screen, "Who's number is this?"

After numerous failed attempts, Ellie gave up and went away.

Arriving at Noah's mansion, Ellie had barely closed the cab door when she received a message notification on her phone.

Ellie opened the message and read it right away.

Her smile grew broader as soon as she read the message.

Beep! Beep!

Ellie was startled and almost dropped her phone.

A metallic Rolls-Royce Spurs pulled up beside her. The rear passenger window rolled down, revealing a man with a cold and arrogant face.

"Don't come in front of my door if you want to die..." Noah turned his head. As he gazed at Ellie, his brown eyes flashed with hatred. "Sign the paper before you end your lousy and disgusting life!"

Ellie opened her mouth to respond. However, Noah has rolled his window up. She could no longer see him but her reflection.

Ellie smiled in disdain as she watched the car drive away. "Don't worry. I will sign it."
