Mr K

"Kahan…there would come a time when you would have to pick between acting and your nighttime job as a middleman," Kahan's assistant Manny told him as he stared at the beautiful and flawless face of his boss. His long black and silky hair flowing down to tease his forehead.

He was six foot tall with broad and strong shoulders that made it easy for him to be cast as the male lead in most movies. His sharp jawline and sculpted nose, unrivaled among all the faces in the acting industry, and this contributed to why Kahan was one of the best top five male actors in the acting industry.

Everything would have been great if he wasn't also the leader of the most notorious gang in the U.S. They weren't notorious for indiscriminate killings but mostly for maintaining the peace since their main job was to serve as a middleman for brokering big deals between big entities. Which meant that they were in charge of eliminating anyone that decided to act wrongly in bad faith.

"Are you even listening to me?" Manny asked with a worried expression on his face as he stared at his boss who did nothing but continue to face the window of his penthouse mansion with his eyes closed, as he acted like he was asleep,

"You could get hurt and more importantly your face could get injured. If that happens that would be the end of your acting career. What then? Would you simply become a full-time Crime-lord?" Manny said, his concern for Kahan visible in every word.

At that point, Kahan couldn't help but openly take a deep breath right before his long eyelids fluttered open. Manny was the only one that could talk to him in such a persistent and stubborn-headed way and he himself knew it.

"You know very well that I can protect myself,"

"Against guns and bombs?" Manny instantly fired back, completely missing the frown that suddenly crossed Kahan's face right before his face went back to the permanently neutral one he usually had,

"At least get a bodyguard boss. Every important celebrity has one," Manny begged suddenly, conscious of the high tone he had unknowingly used even if Kahan hadn't seen a need to point it out.

"Hmmm…I'll think about it," Kahan finally replied after a few seconds of silence in a cold tone that informed Manny that he didn't want him to bring up that particular matter any time soon.

"Right now we should talk about the deal between the Mano Company and that of the Dangs. The Mano failed to hold up their end of the deal, why haven't we taught them a lesson yet?" Kahan asked, with Manny noticing how much his boss seemed to enjoy talking whenever it came to his night business,

"They asked for more time and a chance to explain why to you. They asked to meet at the Holzer hotel. They called it neutral ground but I think they're full of shit. It's all in the file," Manny said, pointing at the table full of files that Kahan was sitting in front of and had no intention of opening.

Another reason why he didn't mind talking as much as he did at that moment.

"Of course they're full of shit. But I can't help but be curious to see what kind of shit they're willing to pull out of their ass this time around,"

"You can't actually be serious about personally going to the hotel to meet them. Holzer is indeed neutral ground especially since you own half of it, but I'm willing to bet both my hands that it's a trap,"

"Next time, it's usually best to bet one arm and a leg just in case," Kahan joked which managed to get even more on Manny's nerves since it was obvious that Kahan was in no way taking the matter seriously,

"I'm taking bodyguards with me Manny. There's nothing to be worried about," Kahan said doing his best to allay his assistant's ever worrisome fears,

"Yes. We both know you're going to keep them all outside,"

"If they're all outside and they all do their jobs properly then no one should be able to get inside now should they?"

"At least allow me to arrange a personal bodyguard for you tomorrow," Manny said with a clear look of worry on his face, unwilling to let the matter go.

"How about this? We'll talk about this bodyguard matter when I come back tomorrow," Kahan said finally looking up at the face of his assistant who looked at him with an anxious look that made it clear that he didn't think his boss would make it back tomorrow if he didn't go with a bodyguard,

"Look on the bright side, Manny. If something happens to me, you get a big share of all my money. You can share it with that girlfriend of yours," Kahan teased, a small smile on the edge of his lips, enjoying the moment, knowing fully well that by tomorrow night he would turn into a completely different person.

"We both know that you're too stubborn and strong-willed for anything particularly bad to happen to you,"

"We both know that you'll order more security than I'll ever need to surround me," Kahan replied, wondering when and how Manny became someone he could completely trust with his life. At the same time, he didn't exactly hate the idea of such a thing happening.

"I'm off. There's no point talking to you if you never listen to me," Manny said right before he began walking towards the door as quickly as he could.

"Fine. I'll meet you there then," Kahan replied with a shrug watching Manny walk away before turning his attention back to the transparent window behind him showing a beautiful view of the city beneath him.

A major reason why he was unable to catch Manny's last words to him before turning the door handle to leave,

"I'm sorry Kahan but you won't," Manny whispered under his breath as he stepped out of Kahan's main office.
