Derek's Backstory(2)

Due to this, the whole town had known my name and labeled me as a 'Freak genius' due to how smart I was.

At the age of 10, I was now able to control the mana in my surroundings and was able to advance my research on it tenfold.

My mother was proud of me, while my father is just the same as always, having an expressionless face.

I kept releasing my theories, and some of my theories were so groundbreaking that I received an invitation to the best Academy on the human continent.

I was so happy about it and told my mother and father before they could even catch wind of this amazing news.

My mother was so proud of me that she started a banquet in our mansion while inviting plenty of influential people in the town to spread the word about my achievements.

As the night of the banquet begins, They just greeted and congratulated me while proceeding to talk to my parents right after, I just shrugged my shoulders as I didn't care about other people that much except for my family and Abby which I hadn't seen until now.

While feeling bored with this whole social interaction, I just excused myself and slowly started eating meat at one of the tables containing different variety of foods.

While eating I glanced at one of the corners of the whole banquet room. I saw a boy which was the same age as me, he had a normal-looking face, a better-built body than me while also taller than at the same time, he had a scabbard on his left waist that isn't containing any sword on it as it's banned during a banquet.

He was just standing there in the corner not minding anyone that tried to talk to him.

He just kept a poker face, I can't read minds but I know that he is currently bored. Well, we are the same after all.

I quickly finished eating and decided to interact with him, while walking towards him, he glanced at me and just nodded while not saying anything.

Seeing this, I just assumed that he didn't like social interactions too much.

I am currently in front of him, he is just staring at me with interest while not saying anything at all.

Not minding this, I decided to introduce myself to him as I found him extremely peculiar.

"My name is Derek Santos the heir of Clan Santos, May I know your name?"

"Hello there, My name is Andrew Familia, I'm also an heir to my clan named 'Familia'."

I was caught off guard as I didn't expect that I would meet one of the 3 clans of border Town's heir.

I also didn't expect that this would be a decision that I would greatly regret, But also the best decision I made, as I would be able to meet my future masters in the following future.

Though we started talking at a slow pace, as the topic switched from our occupations, I noticed that he had an interest in them. "Can I by any chance know your occupation?"

He just kept staring at me while a shocked expression could be seen on his face. "I didn't expect that the Border towns known as 'Freak Genius; wouldn't know about that.''

Hearing this I can't help but perk my ears as I would like to gain more knowledge about this world. "About what?" I asked curiously.

"Well, you can't just ask anybody about their profession as it's forbidden as they might also think that you are rude, after all, it might save their lives at any given moment, as your ability is unknown to your possible enemies lurking around," he said calmly as he eyed me with interest, waiting for my answer.

As I think about what he had just said, I can't help but think that he has a point.

'But, Why would they just tell me about it? Are they just too friendly?' I thought as I remembered that every time I ask someone in the family mansion, be they the maids, guards, or cooks, they would just tell me their profession without hiding anything.

"HaHaHa! Though I can't read minds, I know what you are thinking, You are wondering why they just kept telling you their occupation without hiding anything right?''

He told me plenty of things, such as a hint about his profession which he said is related to swords. He also told me why the servants in the mansion always tell the truth without hiding anything, He said they either trust me or are scared of my parents.

Just like that we kept talking until the banquet ended, and we even became friends, he also invited me to his family mansion the following week, and of course, I accepted without any delay as I'm excited to visit a friend's house for the very first time.

A week passed by quickly, As I visited their family mansion, I can't help but compare ours to theirs, Their mansion has a grand look on it with flowers all over the house, while a pond was in their backyard.

Their mansion has a positive sensation all over the place, While ours has a dark vibe to it and has very little vegetation all over the place, Heck! We even have a graveyard in our backyard!

As I was over, we just talked about swordsmanship, magic, and our opinions on the political scene. We even talked about the Old Man that is governing this whole town.

While Half of the town thinks that he is currently in seclusion, the other half thinks that he is currently injured due to an attack by an LVL 80 beast (tier 7).

"Though I haven't seen what higher-ranked fights, I think that the town governor is just secluding himself and will only come out in emergencies or the like," I said while having a neutral look on my face while holding a teacup in my right hand.

"I also think the same thing, After all, if you were in his place why would you fight beasts with almost the same rank as you? The benefits aren't that great after all, except for the corpse of the beast of a course."

We just kept talking about the things happening in the whole town.

After a few hours, I had to go home as I have more things to study about. So I said my farewell and head back home with a carriage that carried our clan symbol on its side.

At the age of 11, The whole town is calling me 'Lil Sage; I didn't know what it was I asked one of the servants in the mansion. so they said it translated to 'little sage' or 'small sage' in a lost language named 'Latin'.

I tried asking what this language called Latin was, but The answer I received was just 'IDK' or 'I just heard it from somewhere.

I tried searching for the one who gave me the title, as I wanted to know more about this lost language.

During this time last year, I also discovered that I had a deep curiosity about anything unknown.

I told this my mother and she just smiled at me while saying, "Oh? It's normal for genius researchers to have a deep curiosity about the unknown. But, You need to keep it always in check, as the saying goes 'Curiosity Killed The Cat." She smiled at the last part, which I knew was a warning my mother gave me, as to always control myself as I might lose my reasoning itself.

I quickly tried to control my impulses as my mother said, I kept what she had just said in my mind as a reminder to not lose myself in the process.

At the age of 12, I displayed a mastery of mana that only people with the rank of a veteran (tier 5) had.

Knowing this everyone was shocked as they didn't expect me to have another field in which I excel, from my huge stuck knowledge from books, and now a high talent in magic itself.

As I told Andrew this, I saw a change in his expression, which I just shrugged as he always makes that face if he had a disinterest in a subject. But what I didn't know at that time was that It wasn't disinterest but instead jealousy.

Both me and Andrew decided to have a blacksmith make a custom weapon for both of us with ores that we were given by both of our respective families.

While we were walking in the streets trying to find a blacksmith shop, I hadn't noticed that we were walking toward the market I didn't recognize the surroundings due to how it changed over the years without me visiting it at least once.

As we entered the marketplace, Andrew just suddenly stopped, I wasn't looking at where I was going so I just bumped into him, causing the both of us to fall on the sidewalk.
