"Cara stop this! The Alpha will be enraged at what you're trying to do",Caleb said as he and Alex stood in front of Layla, shielding her from the furious she-wolf.
"Riven won't have something to be enraged about when that brat is dead",Cara spat out viciously and made a move towards Layla. She was consumed with so much rage and she just wanted to feel her claws sinking into Layla's form.
"Stop where you are! I will not hesitate to...",Alex was saying when Zane suddenly slammed into him, tackling him to the ground. They crashed into one of the shelves. Books tumbled and landed around them and in the next second, they shifted into their beast form. Alex was larger in size compared to Zane's smaller werewolf form and they circled each other, snarling and baring their canines.
Caleb had turned to watch them and got distracted for a minute. Before he could turn back, Cara had his neck in a death grip and she hurled him out the window. Caleb's body crashed through the glass and dropped downwards. Broken glass rained downwards and he shifted in midair before he landed hard on the ground.
Back inside the room, Layla retreated as Cara walked closer to her. Alex tried to go towards her but he was pulled back by the brown werewolf and slammed on the ground.
Layla began to panic. She felt the shelf behind her back and fear choked her when she realized there was no way out for her. Riven wasn't here and there was no way she could fight against Cara who wasn't even human.
"You should never have arrived here!",Cara said darkly and her hand shot out and grabbed Layla's hair. Layla winced and tears immediately pooled in her eyes. Cara tightened her grip and Layla felt she would die from the pressure exerted on her hair. She began to whimper.
"You ruined everything for me",Cara continued. "Everything. And now I'm going to enjoy killing you".
Layla's eyes widened and she felt something snap within her.
Cara dragged her along the ground, pulling her by her hair and began to drag her up the stairs. Layla tried to release her hair from the tight grip but she wasn't strong enough. Her tears crawled down her face silently and she began to feel a strong emotion. Anger! It bubbled up her stomach and lodged in her throat, wanting to break out.
Cara dragged her past Riven's chambers and continued up the stairs, heading towards the roof. She climbed up the last flight of stairs and kicked open the door that lead to the roof of the mansion. She shoved Layla in and slammed the door behind her.
Layla began to slide back on her elbows, trying to get away from Cara. There was clear fear in her eyes, and a hint of a stronger emotion. She didn't want to die. This wasn't when she wanted to take her own life. She no longer saw the world as a cruel place. Riven already proved it to her. And now this woman was going to kill her and she would never get to be with Riven again. She couldn't die!.
"You have nowhere to escape to",Cara said furiously. Her emerald eyes glowed with uncontrolled anger and hate and she viciously pulled up Layla, backing her towards the edge of the roof.
Layla's breath bust out in panicked pants. Her heart felt like it would explode as she felt her leg slip of the edge of the roof. This couldn't be happening, she thought. Surely this was a dream and she would wake up soon. Her terrified eyes turned towards Cara who was glaring evilly at her and her mouth opened, a plea on the tip of her tongue.
"I hope you feel much worse pain than what I felt when you hit the ground",Cara growled angrily and shoved Layla backwards, her fingers letting go of Layla's dress.
Layla felt a feeling of deja Vu as she soared in the air for a split second before she felt her body drop downwards. A terrified scream tore out of her mouth as her body dropped rapidly towards the ground, her arms flailing in the air. She watched the roof of the mansion and Cara's figure recede with speed and as she turned in the air, she saw the ground rushing up to meet her, death certain as gravity pulled her closer to the hard earth.
Terror. Fear. Dread.
The emotions all bubbled up her throat and pushed out the only name she knew in a scream.
"RIVEN!"
...
Caleb felt his bones pop painfully and reform. He had been lucky to shift into his wolf before he crashed on the ground. Even when he survived the fall, his bones were broken badly and they were slowly healing themselves. He could hear the snarls and growls coming from Alex and Zane as they slammed around the library in their duel.
He tried to get up but his body refused. He couldn't move until he was totally healed. His vision slowly cleared and he looked towards the roof, his eyes widening at the sight he saw. Cara had Layla at the edge of the roof and would push her over any minute.
He tried to get up again when Riven's mind link reached him.
[Bring my mate out of the mansion now!]
[Alpha you need to hurry here. Luna is up on the roof with Cara...]
Caleb didn't finish when Riven suddenly roared in rage. Caleb winced and held his head as the pressure of Riven's rage slammed through his mind.
From the distance, he could see trees getting uprooted from the earth as Riven tore through the forest towards the mansion.
...
All Riven could see was a red haze as he got closer to the mansion. Cara had outdone herself and he would make sure she and her father felt the wrath within him. Right now, he needed to get to his mate.
He was a few meters away from the mansion when a terrified scream jerked his head upwards. And he watched in paralyzing shock as Layla's body dropped from the roof of the mansion.
For a moment everything paused. The air froze. The trees stilled. It became totally quiet. And in the midst of that silence, he heard her terrified voice scream out his name.
"RIVEN!".
...
Layla shut her eyes tightly, knowing that death was imminent. She knew she was going to die and nothing would stop it.
Just as she reached the ground, a white light shot out of her body and she froze in midair. Her eyes opened and they weren't grey.
They were purple.
