Chapter-55 David's new clue....

Eva could not find her phone and be desperate to find it, Ben tried calling David but couldn't reach him, and David was with Doctor James, in a lunch meeting where they talked about Suzie's case, when James heard the name Suzie, he panicked, David thought that his doubts may be right, but instead of diverting the topic, James advised him to stay away from the case. That brought David's confusion back again, David was desperate to find out James's opinion on Suzie's case,

" Sir, I don't care if any higher-ups are involved in this case, I just want patients to be fine, I read about her, she's just nineteenth years old, and she has the right to get proper treatment, but just because, some big ones are involved, we can't just see her dying"

James was furious, and said,

" I just warned you David, can't you understand, I tried everything back then, but you know what I get back, I was about to be blacklisted, do you know what that means, my career finished,.....",

he sighed, as if regretting, something, then continued,

"uh ...., I was just like you, David, I wanted that kid to fine too, but, just wishing something is not all.....we can never do things we wish in this world,"

David was furious too,

" just because of threat, we can't just sit aside and see things going wrong right in front of us, how could we sir ?...we are doctors...how could we?"

" That's what I meant to say, David, we are doctors, not some superhero, we are normal people, we don't have powers we can't do things we wish to...so, just stop it here.... before it gets wrong," James tried to convince David, but he was not in a mood, and said,

" Ok fine sir, you stay out of this, but please don't expect that from me,"

James hit on the table and said,

" Do you think it's a joke, you may lose your life, two years back there was a doctor who spoke to me just like you, but do you know how she ended up, she was killed, David.....I always regret that.....I don't want you to be the same, "

David was shocked to hear that from him, he was sure that James was talking about Era, he wanted to know more about what happened then,

"Are you talking about Era? , What happened to her? What do you know about her?", said David,

" Do you know her, ...oh she was from your department, she was your junior, isn't she?" asked James,

" Yes sir" replied David,

" back then, she came to me with a file, and told me about the case, according to that file she was right, but when I checked the details in the hospital records, it was different, I think you were talking about the same one she brought then," said James,

" What happened after that sir, what did you do sir.." asked David,

"She was just an intern, David, how can I believe her, so I asked her to collect some blood samples to confirm, and she went willingly ...after that, I never met her, she sent me a message, that she will bring the report the next day but that's it,...I never heard from her..,"

he stopped, sighed, and then started again,

"I tried everything to know about her, but you know what I heard, the watchman of the mortuary said, she was found dead in front of the mortuary and her body just disappeared...I was afraid, to go further David ... I am a coward, I can't risk everything for the truth...I can't,"

David was so angry but he knows that James was right somewhere,

so he controlled his anger and said,

"what else do you know sir?"

James noticed that David was not shocked, he asked him,

" David do you know about this? "

"hmm, I know a little bit. I don't know about what exactly happened to Era, how did you know that she was found dead before the mortuary, I never heard about it"

asked David, he was sure that, no one knows about her, not even the watchman, so he wondered, how does he know about her.

James was confused, he said,

" I know it is hard to believe, but that watchman saw someone dragging her when he went there, that girl was already dead and the one who was dragging her ran away, he was frightened and came running to find some help, I was going back home after a surgery, that night, we both went there but she disappeared, I tried to enquire about her but I was threatened by someone, so I had to give up,"

David was so excited that there was an eyewitness of Era's case, he thought that the watchman might have seen it, so he rushed out from there, James was surprised to see him run, and asked,

"Where are you going, David?"

David said,

" I have something important to do, I'll talk to you later"

and ran away, he went straight to the gate where the watchman stays, and started looking around,

a man was standing near the gate, David rushed to him and asked,

"So you are the watchman here",

the watchman greeted him and asked,

" Yes Sir I am, do you want something?"

David was happy to hear that, he asked,

"so you have been working here for

three years"

"no sir it had been one year since I started working here," he said,

David lost hope but he asked,

" do you know the previous watchman who worked here,"

that man confusingly asked

" Why sir, did he cause any trouble?"

David said, " no it is not that, I just have something to ask."

that man was relieved a little and said,

" oh..then that's fine, he is my father sir, he had been working here for five years, but last year he fell ill so I took up his work, but he still works as a night watchman here, he'll be back here at night, you can ask him then"

David was happy to know that he is still here, he took out some money and gave it to him and said,

" you can use it, when your father comes please tell him, that I'll come to meet him, by the way, at what time will he come?"

That man said,

" Nine o'clock at night he'll be here sir and thank you very much for this sir"

David smiled at him and went back ... though he was happy to get a new clue he was curious about who that person could be and also about who was the one, that smashed Eva's phone.

He checked his phone to call Ben to ask about Eva, but he saw his missed calls, and called him back,

but before he could speak anything,

" Where were you sir? , Why didn't you answer your phone? Where is my phone?" Eva shouted restlessly,

He laughed and said,

" So you are fine now, and your phone is with me, it's broken I don't know how, .... don't talk about anything now Eva, if you are fine, meet me in Era's room with Ben,"

Eva understood that he is finally willing to share something,

" Ok, sir we'll be there".

Eva whispered everything to Ben and they were about to leave, suddenly Jerry came there and saw them near to each other, he kept an angry face and took a file from that room, which he forgot there before and left the room seriously, Eva tried to talk to him,

" Hey, Jerry .." but he looked at her seriously and went outside...Eva was surprised by his reaction but she thought that Jerry is always unpredictable.....
