Dreaming of a cruel mercenary

"boom"

Frank had just sprinted into the village, which seemed abandoned at first sight, but the lights were all over the place.

Frank said in a low voice, "a village?"

He was aware that the contamination caused a few problems among the people in the surrounding area.

However, his briefing stated that these people had been evacuated a long time ago and that the contaminated were being treated.

"Then what is this village in the middle of the forest?"Agent frankenstein was a bit confused, so he walked around the village for a while.

There was a working water system and the electricity was also running perfectly. Then why did it seem like there was no sign of life at all?

"Grrrrr," a voice resonated behind Frank, which startled him.

He hurriedly turned around and looked in the direction from which the sound was coming from.

"damn"

There were guard dogs These kinds of dogs are common in this current day and time. They were genetically modified over the years so they would grow as tall as 6 feet, the height of an average human, and they would be fierce.

Frank counted the number of guard dogs and the number of bullets he had before his next recharge.

"Not enough," he murmured. The bullets could hardly take two down. He didn't pack his powerful weapons because he didn't think he would face any issues on this mission.

"I have to get out of here."

These were his first thoughts, but he had a gut feeling that whoever or whatever it was that surrounded him would be waiting outside for him to come out.

He pulled out his knife. It was made out of a very strong alloy that could cut through steel. He was confident in his capabilities.

"Okay, let's do this."

The dogs stopped growling as they noticed that Frank wouldn't go out no matter what. They were even angrier.

"Howllll," the leader appeared to issue the order to attack.

Frank watched as these dogs sprinted toward him in shock.

"What the hell?" he thought.

These dogs were too fast to be normal guard dogs. This was going to be harder than he thought.

"Bang bang bang"

Frank started shooting while moving.

But

When he looked to see their damage, he was surprised.

The bullets didn't slow them down by much. Some of the dogs even managed to dodge his shots.

This was absolutely shocking. They were just dogs. After all, the genetic modifications shouldn't be able to cause such a huge change in them normally.

The dog in the lead pounced on Frank from the side. It had been waiting for an opportunity and it had caught Frank off guard. This time he had no chance to dodge, so he took it head on.

"arg"

He was pushed back a few steps.

but he managed to use his knife to stab the dog in the neck.

It started whimpering.

Only then did Frank notice something he had been missing since the beginning of the fight.

The blood on his knife was a shade of dark green, and as he inspected them more, he noticed their eyes were also weird.

"Damn, I can't let this go on much longer." He didn't know if the contamination could spread to him, but he didn't want to take that chance.

After all, he didn't want to risk his life unnecessarily.

The dogs were angry about what had happened to their friend, so they resumed their attack on Frank, and this time they did so together.

When Frank saw this, he tried to dodge.

But

He was knocked into one of the side buildings.

His mind went into hyper-speed and he immediately rolled over and dodged from where he had landed.

He then assumed a guarding position as he didn't want to get caught by surprise.

But to his surprise, the dogs only stood outside the house growling. They weren't afraid of Frank, that was for sure, but they didn't attempt to go into the house.

"What's going on?" Frank wasn't sure about what was happening, but he didn't dare step outside because

Although the dogs didn't dare come in, they didn't leave either.

Frank stayed there ready for a fight all night. He didn't budge. He was a trained soldier and was very disciplined.

And soon, the sun started to rise.

Frank didn't sleep; he just stood there looking outside at where the guard dogs stood.

"Good morning?" A voice suddenly echoed behind Frank.

He jumped towards the window immediately.

He had made a fatal error while he was in mid-air. The dogs pounced on him once again when they noticed that he was distressed.

"Who was this guy and why did he startle him like that?" He thought with a look of annoyance on his face.

He had no choice; he would now have to face those freakish guard dogs once again.

But suddenly

"Stop," a voice resounded.

It was the same voice that had startled Frank before.

And as soon as the voice sounded, the dogs stopped moving and sat on the floor wagging their tails like two little dogs.

Frank was stunned.

"What is this? Frank thought, "You are monsters, act like it. Why are you making me look bad?"

These guys had tormented him all night and suddenly they started behaving like good little puppies?

Now he was the bad guy who was holding a gun and a knife at dogs wagging their tails.

Frank looked back to see who the voice was from.

There stood a middle-aged man. He looked like he was in his forties tops.

But the thing that stood out about him the most was his left hand.

It was huge and covered in white bandages.

"Who are you?" frank asked in a rather low and stern voice.

"Hm?" The old man looked at Frank strangely.

He scratched his head and said

"I don't remember." He had a smile on his face though.

"What did you do to offend the hounds? Hasn't anyone told you to stay away from them? " The middle-aged man said

Frank looked confused.

Why was the middle-aged man acting like it was something everyone was supposed to know?

"Come on, it's daytime already. Help me tend to my plants," the middle-aged man said.

He then went out and grabbed Frank by the arm and brought him to a garden.

They interacted for a while, and Frank gradually understood what was going on here.

This is a village of a few tens of people, and they were all contaminated, and at night the disease would take control, and everyone else, except the animals, would lose their sense of self. It was mandatory to lock themselves up before the sun set every day, but some didn't, and they would go out and hunt.

but

The village head couldn't do anything about it as they had not brought harm to the rest yet.

Those were the people that attacked Frank.

This revelation was surprising because the company that hired his organization was pretty clear when they said everyone in the contamination zone had been taken to a secure facility, so who were these guys?

"Mister Ashlot, have you ever heard of the Green World Company?" Frank asked

That was the name of the company that hired his organization to find and destroy the source of the contamination.

They preached about making the world a better place and healing the already barren earth, but the people who knew what was going on behind the scenes and those who suffered directly from the actions of the green world company knew that it was just a load of bull.

"Hmmm," the old man had long realized Frank was not from here due to the bizarre questions he asked.

"Of course, we all know them, but I urge you not to continue with your line of questioning. It would be detrimental to us all," Ashlot said in a rather solemn tone.

"When you leave this village, please be sure not to tell a soul about this place and I'll be grateful," the middle-aged man then added.

Frank understood that he owed the man his life. He was a mercenary that didn't care about anything other than his payment, and as this wouldn't even affect his pay, he would just choose to ignore it.

He stayed with the old man for a while, but soon set off, as he knew that the village wouldn't be safe at night.

.....

Frank was moving through the woods slowly as he knew that the forest was safe during the day.

When

Some figure suddenly appeared in front of him.

And amongst these people, there stood a middle-aged man.

It was ashlot.

"What is the meaning of this ?" Frank asked

He was just stalling for time, of course. He had noticed that Ashlot wasn't being completely honest from the get-go.

"Did you really think that we would let you go? What if you tell the green world company about us ? " Ashlot said

"I am sorry, but I can't take that risk." As he slowly released the bandages from his big arm, Ashlot attacked

He was followed by a few other men from the village.

But

"Did you think that I was that gullible ?" Frank said with a smile

"Vroommm" helicopter sounds resonated through the air.

They were four M1 choppers mounted with machineguns.

The middle-aged man froze

They had been tricked.

Frank had called for backup a long time ago because he knew the reasoning behind the man's actions. If it were him, he would do the same.
