Make It Right

~~~NATE'S POV~~~
Today, Catherine requests a day off saying she has to go to a group therapy session with a support group. I asked her if I could come and she just frowned at me with confusion asking me why. That made me taken aback because I don't know how to reply. I know the answer but should I tell her that I wanted to be with her and show some support?
I just shrugged my shoulders in reply and she said that I shouldn't have to because I'll only get bored being surrounded by a group of middle-aged women.
So, today I worked alone and even though Daisy is just outside Catherine's office, I refuse to ask anything from her. Hell, I refuse to even see her. It irritated me and wanted to fire her then and there. Especially after what I found out from Grace earlier.
Since Catherine is on a day off, I took this opportunity to talk with Grace, her best friend. I am sure that she has something to do or at least she knows the reason why Catherine suddenly decided to distance herself from me.
Earlier during lunch, I went to the cafeteria which I don't normally do. I stepped in and got cautious looks from my employees that were eating there. They were probably wondering what I was doing there. But I couldn't care less. I looked around trying to find a face that I saw in the company's database where the information and photos of my employees were there.
Until I found the person I am looking for. It is not that easy to recognize her, because Catherine had already mentioned how Grace tends to make an effort to always look perfect and presentable. That she even looks like the boss than her boss.
I saw a girl that wore an elegant V-neck white shirt and high waist wide long leg black pants. Her hair is wavy as if she just came out of the salon. She is sitting in front of the head of the HR Department which I am familiar. That's why I knew that it was her.
I stood at the side of their table making them taken aback when they found out that it was me. I asked Grace if I could talk with her in my office after lunch and she nodded her head. I left the place after I made sure that she got the message.
After lunch, I heard a knock on my office door and I knew that it was Grace because no one would come knocking at my door without Catherine informing me first. And since Catherine is not here, no one would dare come knocking at my door. Unless I am expecting them.
Grace came in nervously and I gestured to her to sit in front of my desk. As soon as she got seated, I asked her straightforwardly. I noticed that she paled at first, her hand was fidgeting on her lap and she was biting her lower lip.
I waited for her to calm her nerves and find the confidence to answer my question. And when she did, I instantly went outraged but I succeeded in not showing it to her.
"People were talking about how seemingly close you and Catherine are. They cannot help it especially when they are seeing you going to and from work together and eating lunch together. And Daisy has been talking about how Catherine is spending a lot of time inside your office. There were assumptions that Catherine is seducing you to make her your mistress. I'm sorry sir, but with all due respect, people know that you are married and have two daughters. It won't be fair for Catherine to see you both together, with you giving her special treatment. She would be labeled as a mistress and a home-wrecker even if that is not true. Her reputation would be ruined. I know that you know about her condition. She's already been through a lot, and still going through it. The last thing she needs is situations like this that will stress her out emotionally and psychologically which I am sure you know always trigger her flare." She is straightforward just like what Catherine told me.
She paused to catch her breath then she continued but in a softer tone, "If you care for her like I think you do, you will make this right. I love my best friend, I watch her as she struggles to continue her life despite her pain and she deserves to be happy."
Her last words keep ringing in my head. I care for Catherine and I love her. I will make this right and I will make her happy.
After finding out about the words that are circulating in my company about Catherine and the great possibility that it all started with Daisy, I had this urge to strangle her. I am not a violent man, especially to women but when it concerns my daughters and the love of my life, hell I am willing to kill. But I know that Catherine would not let me do that.
I'll deal with Daisy later, but first things first, I need to see Catherine. So, I called the support group where she is right now and asked what time their therapy ends.
I will pick her up and take her for dinner. But I know that she will refuse if I take her to dinner alone so I called my daughters.
I know it is not right to use my children so that I can get my way to her but it feels right. She is happy with my daughters, at least that's what I can see in her eyes whenever they are together and I am a hundred percent sure that my daughters are happy with her. And I am going to make my girls always happy.
As soon as I parked, I instantly saw Catherine outside the building. But she is not alone, she is with her doctor. My gaze immediately darkens. What is he doing here? I know he is her doctor but is he supposed to be there during her therapy session as well? Of course, he would want to be there. I know that he has the right to be there, especially after I realize that he is not just her doctor, I could see the way he looks at her. He is in love with her.
Before I could stop Faye and Aenid, they already opened the door of the car and ran towards her. I stepped out of the car and followed them. Catherine hasn't seen us yet because she is facing that doctor, her back facing us. After I took a couple of steps with my eyes fixed on her, I saw Catherine and her doctor hug each other.
That's when I see red. My possessiveness takes over me but before I could run toward them and punch the guy in his face, Catherine turns her head and looks at us.
Our eyes met and I immediately noticed the confusion on her face. She doesn't know how I feel about her yet and here I am acting like a possessive boyfriend. I tried to calm myself as we got closer.
"Cat!" Faye and Aenid called her and that's when her eyes averted from me and turned to my daughters. Her face turns from confusion to delight. She is delighted to see them. Damn, what would I do to see her delighted to see me as well?
"Hey, what are you guys doing here?" She asked with a pleased tone. Then she squatted down to welcome them with a hug. I suddenly felt jealous. First, she was hugging that guy that is not me. Then my daughters. The only time that my body got close to her was when she was unconscious and I had to carry her to the hospital.
When will I get the chance to hug her tightly? I can't wait to feel her body on mine. I am sure her body would perfectly fit into mine.
"Dad is taking us to dinner and we asked if we could take you with us," Aenid said. Alright, for the record, they did ask me that. And I gladly agreed because that was my plan.
I saw her eyes dart from them and then to me. I am already standing behind my daughters. Her smile was not faltering but her eyes were questioning me.
I shrug my shoulders, "I told them you were on a day off and probably busy," I said and I glanced for a fleeting moment at the guy standing behind her who is giving me an icy glare. "But they kept bugging me, so I told them we could try. But if you have plans, that's alright." I said as if it didn't matter but it did. I hope she would say yes, because if she said no, there are two possibilities. Either she goes home alone or her doctor takes her home.
"Actually..." Catherine straightened her back and glanced at the guy behind her. "We have plans," My eyes instantly darken. I am sure she doesn't have any feelings for that guy. Or am I wrong? Are they now dating?
"We can take him with us! Please! Please!" This time, it was Faye. And my eyes widened as I looked at my daughters. Okay, I think that's better than leaving Catherine with that guy.
Catherine's eyes were wide as well. But it was Faye, she always has a soft spot for Faye. I noticed that she cannot refuse Faye that easily.
Catherine turns to look at her doctor. She seemed hesitant but the guy looked at her with gentleness. "I'm fine with that," He said then he shrugs his shoulders. Our eyes met and were gone with gentleness.
It is replaced with something I cannot describe. He is probably thinking the same thing as me. He doesn't want to leave Catherine with me.
