His Mother

Aselia's POV

Two girls had arrived with our lunch or dinner since it was already evening. They placed the cake in the mini-fridge of Xiran's room while the food was served to us. Everything looked appetizing from roasted chicken to sauteed vegetables and rice. The aroma hit me like a tornado and my mouth began to water. Xiran was observing my reaction and began to smile.

"Dig in," he handed me a plate. I filled it up instantly and began to eat. The food was extremely delicious and I ate to my heart's fill with Xiran filling up my plate every now and then. After eating I washed my hands and brought the cake from the fridge.

"It's my cake, but I am feeling generous so I will share a slice with you," I smirked at him while cutting a slice and handing it to him.

"Thank you for your generosity, Ma'am Aselia." He bowed to me like a chivalrous knight who had just been honoured with a medal of valour.

I took a bite and the cake just melted in my mouth, it was soft and utterly delicious. I closed my eyes and chewed softly and my taste buds just couldn't get enough of his cake. As I opened my eyes to take another bite, I saw him observing me with a satisfied expression on his face.

"Is it any good?"

"It's mouthwatering, where did you learn to cook so perfectly?" I took another bite.

"My mother. She loved experimenting with food and being the eldest child she engaged me with her and I went on to learn a lot from her." He spoke with a lot of affection and a special warmth had crept into his eyes which I had never seen before.

"Well, your mother is an incredible cook to have taught you such extraordinary culinary skills."

"Was, she died." His expression changed again to a solemn one and he averted his gaze to look at the sky.

"I am really sorry, I didn't mean to..."

"It's alright Aselia, she is in a much better place now. She would have loved you though, she was as innocent as you are." He offered me a sad smile. Only if he knew I wasn't as innocent as he wanted to believe.

"I am sure she is." I smiled back at him. We sat there in silence, it was the first time he had mentioned anything about his family.

"So am I forgiven?" He coaxed me with a grin.

"Considering how good this cake is, you can be granted forgiveness this time around."

"Thank you, I don't like seeing you sad. I love it when you smile and throw those brattish remarks at me. The world is a better place when people smile more." Right now no one could even imagine he was a cold-hearted vampire, there was so much warmth in his words.

"Yahh, yahh. You got away easy this time." There was another knock on the door.

"Who is it?" Xiran called out. "It's me, Sohlia. Can I come in?" Xiran stiffened at those words, his expression went dark.

He turned to me and said in a grim voice: "Go to the washroom and lock yourself in. Don't come out until I say so. Is that clear?"

"Why? What's going on?" I asked him confused.

"Just do as I say Aselia." He dragged me by my hand and lead me to the washroom. "Stay inside," he whispered and closed the door.

He was gone for five minutes and I just stood in the bathroom with a confused expression. When I finally heard him knock and say: "Aselia it's me open the door." I yanked the door open with a scowl.

"What was that all about?"

"It was nothing, come out."

"You locked me up in the bathroom for nothing." I searched his eyes for an explanation. He sighed heavily.

"It was my brother's girlfriend. Both of them have decided to stay here for a few days after they attended the party last night. She wanted to invite me to join them for a late-night party they are attending today. I didn't want her to know about your existence." He placed both his hands on my shoulders.

"And, why is that?" I crossed my arms over my chest.

"Because she is dangerous and can hurt you. I can't let that happen." His hands were cupping my face now and he stared at me with an intensity that could melt an iceberg. I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks.

"You must be such a killjoy and a total control freak."

"Call me whatever you want, if it keeps you safe I don't mind. You don't understand the dangerous world I live in. I warned you about it when we first met. I won't be able to forgive myself if something was to happen to you." There he goes again saying words which would make me feel all fuzzy. Why does he need to do that? Why can't he be just evil with me, my job would have been so much easier if he was.

"Blah blah," I mimicked it with my hand making him suddenly smile as he stroked my cheek bringing his face even closer to me and towered over me. His nose trailed my neckline as he slightly pushed me against the sink, his hands moving down to my waist pulling me even closer.

I seemed to have forgotten to breathe, my erratic heart picked up the pace and thudded heavily, and even my hands moved of their own accord as they landed in his hair. The will to stop him was not zero it was freaking negative. 'What's wrong with you?' My hopeless brain yelled at me. I paid no heed.

His lips grazed my neck and a slight moan escaped me. He enjoyed it because the next moment he landed a full-fledged kiss on my neck. My shameless body almost melted in his arms, did he know he had that much effect on me?

He stopped his assault on my neck and faced me. His left hand held my waist while his right hand stroked my golden locks. "Why did you stop? You must be thirsty." I questioned him.

"Drinking was never my intent I only wished to kiss you. And since you didn't stop me, I did." His voice washed all over me like a breeze.

"Why? What's wrong?" I asked him like a half-wit, my brain refusing to cooperate with me after I ignored the warnings it threw my way.

"What's wrong is that you have been skipping your meals. I can't make you anaemic." That gave rise to a strange feeling in my heart like watching a flower blossom. I thought all vampires cared about was blood. What kind of vampire was he to care about someone as trivial as me?
