What pained her the most was the fact that Landon didn't seem to trust her. She had raised him, molded him into the powerful and intelligent emperor that he was now, and yet he felt the need to increase the number of spies within his own palace. It was a betrayal that stung her to her core, but at the same time, she felt a sense of pride that her son was following in her footsteps of never trusting the innocent.
She sighed and stood up, making her way to the balcony. She looked out at the gardens below and wondered what Landon was thinking, what was going through his mind. She knew he was a smart man, capable of ruling with an iron fist, but she also knew that he could be impulsive and unpredictable. The recent increase in spies was proof of that.
