~Noelle~
"What do you mean by that?"
Dante blinks, staring at me as if I'm the crazy one for asking such a question. I happen to believe it's normal to ask serious questions when you're in my position. Confused and in desperate need of answers.
'A lot is man made, why is this so surprising?'
"Oh I don't know, maybe because humans shouldn't be able to create birds that can do stuff to your head!"
Lynx stirs, and I quickly lower my voice. Frightened that I might wake her up. I know it's weird, but yes, I did use the word frightened. I don't know what children are capable of. We know they're good little monsters. What if there's a rule to never wake a child from their sleep? Because they'll feast on your organs.
'You are crazy.' Dante snorts in amusement. Folding my arms over, I give him the best pointed look I can muster. All he does is return it with the expression of a dry wall. Great to know his humanity still exist.
"You think these things are man-made?" I repeat his words back, hoping he woke add something else to it. He seems to have a good knowledge of….well everything. The rotten stench from earlier still persist. Something is coming, I can almost feel it crawling through my skin.
I cringe as the stench grows thicker. The danger is closer than ever. Okay, one word for the C E B E R U S genes, yes I am being sassy! Why would my danger alertness sense of a thing come with bad odor. Why couldn't it be that whenever I smelt fresh cherry blossoms, that could mean danger? That way my nose won't threaten to fucking fall off.
'More danger, huh?'
"You are avoiding the question."
Dante plays the obvious game of ignoring Noelle, and moves his body till he stands on his feet. Unfortunately for me this time, his thick fingers wrap around my arm and drag me up.
How humiliating. He picks me up like I weigh nothing.
"May I-"
'No.'
Excuse me?!
"What do you mean by no?"
'I mean no, I'm not letting you down until we get there.'
Get where?! Oh my god you are so fucking insufferable!! I just can't stand you, and your unbelievably stupid masculinity stuff.
'Masculinity stuff? God, Noelle, you are just a woman of magical words, aren't you?'
Gasp!
'You're supposed to gasp not say it!'
"I'll thank you not to tell me what to do, Mr alpha. And yes, I am a woman of magical words. Ergo, woman!! Let me go! If I didn't know better –"
'You don't know better.' He crudely replies, still handling me like a sack of potatoes.
'They don't talk as much as you do!'
GASP!!!
'Again??'
This time I laughed, seeming to break the tension that orbited around us. It's kinda ridiculous that I find this funny. But the bickering, the banter, it's not stupid but somehow still funny.
Dante finally sets me on the ground, and I tighten my fingers to avoid another attempt at hitting him. I would only get hurt. And I don't want that.
The stench is worse around here. I glanced around, we're by the front-
A bang rocked the house, and yelped. I'll admit, it wasn't a very womanly yelp. Fear holds a grip at my throat, and the same sound comes again. Heavier than the last, shaking the foundation. Or so I believe. I bounced at the third hit, seeing the door almost fall off its hinges. I'm fast to push my hands against the piece of wood protecting us from those birds.
'Noel-'
The next bang rocks me, and legs wobble. Okay, Luna strength is no match for those birds. Got it.
'It is, you just have no training. No knowledge on how to access parts of you that are infected.'
"That was a little too sexual, Dante. Dial it back."
He growled, and something inside me melted into pure liquid. My arms lost their strength, dropping to my side. Dante actually growled. It was a sound I'd never heard coming from the opposite sex. A deep rumble, rolling out from the depths of his chest. It fell off his mouth and rolled through me.
I shuddered, I've got to see a doctor.
My neck tilts, I notice Dante's empty stare lingering on my form. I can never tell what he's feeling. And it's…. annoying just doesn't cover it.
Infuriating? Maybe.
To add salt to my already open wound, Dante dumps one hand on the door just as a bird drives into it. The door doesn't move. Instead, there's a screech of pain as the animal falls on the ground.
"One arm dude? Show off " I scoffed. I'm not upset at all by this. I bet a good amount of infected people can do that. I'll just have to learn so I can stuff it down his face.
'Now who's being sexual?'
My face heats up, and I sputter incoherent sentences. Trying my hardest to explain that wasn't what I meant, to say- what did I even mean by stuff it down his face? Not the literal type of stuffing it. Oh good lord someone stop me. I'm even antagonizing myself in my own goddamn head!
'Do you still smell anything?' his question seems to end my embarrassing splutter of words, but my face is still beet red.
Clearing my throat, and I leaned on my heels. Inhaling deeply. Dante's musk is the first thing that finds my nostrils. His naturals scent is woodsy, and full of an enthrall earthy combination. It's almost as though it changes.
There's no stench anymore. I can't tell if it's because the danger is no longer there or if his scent is preventing my nose from picking up anything else.
Please let it be the first. Let it be the fucking first.
'So there isn't any danger?'
"None that I can smell." How can I disappear? Is that a part of my ability? Can I also travel back in time? That would be very useful. I could go back and told myself to stay in bed. 12pm is not a bad time to wake up. In fact, it's early. More sleep is needed for the mind to truly be at peace. Yeah.
'Can I check?'
Batting my eyes, I searched for Dante's almost blinding sliver orbs. "How?"
'Don't make this weird.' He murmurs, lowering his form until he's crouched at my eye level. He leans forward, and I let loose a yelp, flopping onto my back. We both blink, asking the same question as to whether I'm sane.
'I said not to make it weird!'
"Um, then don't breach my personal space to do your checking stuff."
Is it just me or did his face get even emptier? Who knew that was even possible? I must be a miracle worker, I snorted to myself.
One of Dante's arms lands next to my head, jolting me. The other drops to my right.
"What are you doing?" I'm fearful of the answer, and also very intrigued to know.
'We need to get intimate for me to use your abilities.'
AHA!! I KNEW THIS ALPHA-LUNA BS WAS GONNA BE WEIRD.
I turned, resting on my stomach and began to make my escape. Dante latches his fingers to my hip, steadying me as he leans into my nape. Using his nose to knock strands of my hair out of the way.
He sucks in deeply, his body heat mixing with mine until my skin was too hot for me to be comfortable. I lay there, anticipation thrumming my veins.
His teeth grazes my mark, and my body stiffens. Images of the birds fill my eyes, and the ear numbing sound of a whistle calls to them. They glance to the sky, what can almost be described as fear delicately crosses their faces. I never got a good look at the birds when I snuck a peak. But now I cannot phantom the idea of them being man-made.
They're a void of pure darkness, no color except for their extremely white faces. Long beaks hiding an array of sharp teeth. It makes sense that they come in a crowd of darkness, that is purely what they are.
Dante nips my mark, and my vision changes. Standing somewhere, on a different path than the Moonraiders pack is something. I can pinpoint this figures physical structure. It's almost like it's hiding it from me. The birds spread their wings, and bounds across the sky at a speed that would be shocking to me if I didn't live in this world.
Dante pulls his body from mine, just as the birds reach the figure. His fingers curl with my hair, yanking my neck back. And whatever sound comes out of my mouth, I swear it isn't me at all. It's almost….dare I say, lewd?
My lashes fly up, revealing my eyes to me. I can see their reflective glow on the floor.
'This is bad.' Is all Dante says before he rushes to his feet, leaving me to deal with the aftermath of ….that!
The more time I spend here, the more questions I have. First a strange lady, and now an unknown figure, just great. And don't get me started on Dante. I should file an assault claim. We're not even married yet and he's using me.
"ugh!" I groan. I don't want to think about how that felt. What I always had in mind was painful, this however, came with zero pain.
I swallowed hard.
I liked it? Nope! Brainwashing. That's what he did. He made me think I enjoyed it.
I scurry to get up. I need a shower to clean all of him off. The next time he says he wants to use me, I'll kick his nuts so far up his body they'll pop out of his throat.
I guess I should be grateful he gave me a fair warning.
Dante is strange. He's giving me hints that he might actually be the good man all these people are seeing, but I won't be fooled so easily.
