Chapter 4 - The Weight of the Foundation

*WARNING, Strong themes of child abuse, neglect, and something worse ahead. Skip this chapter if you want, Ill just summarize it in the author's thought thingy

While everyone else swore every word in their vocabulary, Jared noticed that the camera was now facing the group. A faint red light flashing on it. Someone was watching the group.

Who was watching the group? Jared currently had no clue but whoever it was is most likely the people responsible for the SCP 008 mutation.

The little girl gazed at Squad 19. Her gaze was blank for a second before some form of recognition appeared upon it. She stared at Brooks and said with a voice that both sounded like a little girl and a killer drunk on the blood of its victims "Papa? Did I do good?"

The people watching what was happening to Squad 19 were now on overdrive to get stuff done. A 008 mutation that just gives super strength? Bad but not sh*t has hit the fan bad. But a 008 mutation that not only gives super strength but allows the victim to retain some cognitive abilities? Now that is sh*t has hit the fan bad.

"Squad 19, termi... terminate the hostile."

Fyre's voice was faint. Her usual commando attitude nowhere in sight. For the first time since any of Squad 19 has met Fyre, she sounded hesitant.

It seemed as if the whole squad was shaken by their leader's lack of will. They all saw the little girl. The signs of abuse on her body from before she was ever infected. The room she was in, she had obviously lived there for a while. This was a child that had suffered.

All of Squad 19 was hesitant, all but one. Butter-boy quickly tossed in a smoke grenade hoping to take away the hostile's sight.

The smoke filled the fortified room of the young girl and Butter-boy ran straight into the hazy abyss that dwells the young girl.

The rest of the squad and even some of the supervisors were surprised. But Jared knew why. If Jared were to say why he thought Butter-boy acted that way he would say "The poor chap couldn't stand the sight of a girl who looks so much like his sister be in that scenario. So, he destroyed the sight he saw."

The rest of the squad, once the initial shock was over, also entered the blueish gray smoke. And by the time they had entered the fray, the smoke was already clearing.

What they saw was Butter-boy kneeling. His breathing heavy. His right hand covered in blood, brains, and flesh. His left hand hugged the child whose cranium was now heavily damaged. He could be heard saying "I need a damn raise. Maybe get that new VR game for my sis."

The supervisors said nothing. All of them were impressed with Butter-boy's skill in dealing with the situation. The only minus points they would give was going ahead of the group.

Brooks looked at Butter-boy with an odd glint in his eyes. He almost seemed like he wanted to comfort the kneeling man. But instead he just harrumphed and thought 'He reminds me of myself when I was his age.'

Fyre thought of the situation and although she was mad he had run out of formation without her permission, she simply walked behind him and put her hand on his left shoulder.

Happee then said "It is times like this I wish I went into my dad's tourism business."

Fyre took her hand off of his shoulder and said "Squad 19, we still have a mission to do. Is that understand?"

Brooks, Patty-Cake, and Happee all responded with not so enthusiastic answers. Butter-boy answers with a "Yes, captain."

Jared then realized something and stated "Squad 19, the mutated 008 victims are super strong not super durable."

Happee replied with "So they are essentially glass cannons. Are they even able to use their full strength without tearing their own muscles apart?"

"You are also being watched by the cameras. But only when whoever is using them believes you aren't able to notice the cameras." said Jared. His voice calm and composed. The complete opposite of what many people were feeling right now.

Patty-Cake replied "How could this day get any wor-"

Happee, Brooks, and even Butter-boy tackled Patty-Cake and muffled him. But alas, whoever is in charge of karma had heard Patty-Cake.

While this was going on, Fyre investigated the room. Inside the sturdy cell Fyre saw a sleeping bag and next to it were several journals.

Fyre began reading them and almost instantly wished that she had not. The little girl was actually 14, but was so underfed that she never got that tall.

Her "father", if you could even call that monster that, was one of the detectives for the station. He forced his daughter to live in this room so that his colleagues could "entertain" themselves.

By the time she had managed to reach this part she was squeezing the journal so hard that it was just apart to be ripped apart.

Her squad saw this and decided to pick up and read the other journals. They all had a look on their face while reading the tear-smudged hand writing. The look was pure rage.

Out of nowhere Butter-boy said "Once this is done, I'm burning this town to the ground and taking a sh*t on its ashes"

Happee had an odd look on her face and touched her stomach ever so slightly. Patty-Cake saw this and had an epiphany. A smirk slowly grew on his face and Happee saw him looking at her and she did the smallest of nods.

Butter-boy had said this due to the fact that the entire town knew of this. In fact, the journals even hinted that the townsfolk themselves were somehow behind the mutation of SCP-008.

Why and how? The squad currently had no idea, but Jared and a small legion of other Foundation personnel were digging up as much ancient soil as possible. They were looking at all possible sources from the internet, books, and even Us-Pipe (y*ut*be).

They learned that the town was founded in the mid 1700s by a religious group that was forced to leave Massachusetts due to the splinter group's radical views.

The town's original blueprint from showed it was almost an exact copy of Salem, Massachusetts. This blueprint also said in a small note that underneath the town was a truly labyrinthian cave system.

Jared had a bad hunch and began looking for more modern blueprints of the town and of this vast tunnel system. And he found it.

"Squad 19, get out of ther-" Jared attempted to warn.

But alas, he was too late for the Squad now saw a small group of infected rush out of the odd tile room and straight at the Squad who was confined in the room.

Butter-boy only had one thing to say "F*ck me."
