"Selena? The soulless girl?"
"I don't like when call she that."
"Can you help us?"
"..."
In class there were the 4 of us, well, by normal eyes, the 3 of us. Eloah, me and this year's student council president. We were there to ask some questions, or rather, we were there to ask for help.
"What's your goal with her, Personmea?" asked Nata Lunx, the president of the guild.
"Objective?", I asked.
"Yeah, what do you want with her?" Nata looked at me with clear suspicion on her face. I must say that there was no reason for that, after all, I never did anything within the school that denigrated my image.
Not that that was necessarily what made her look at people the wrong way.
"I just want to have a talk with her, that's all."
"Hmm. And for that you need her address and phone number?"
"Yes…"
"No."
I let out a long sigh of disappointment, at the same moment, I looked around the room for something I don't even know what it was. The place was quite messy, it wasn't a very big room.
On my left side, sitting in a chair just like me, was Eloah. The girl was watching my conversation with the president intently, unlike Wojak, who was snooping around the room with, obviously, the same grumpy face he always had.
In front of us there was a wooden table, not very worked and already well-worn, on top of it, a half-open notebook and several papers scattered around, some in piles, others completely loose. Behind the table, she, sitting very relaxed and facing me. Behind her is a bookshelf (I should never have read any of them).
"Come on, I need this little favor!"
"No, Personmea." Nata looked to her right, and continued. "And you? Don't tell me you came to his, right?"
"Yeah, I came to support him."
"Serious?! Even you?!"
"Come on, what's the problem with telling me that?!", I asked.
"We can't give out student's personal information out there, Personmea!"
"You and all this school politics…"
"Would you like us to spread your address around?" Nata stand up and looked me straight in the eye.
I had to take a more aggressive attitude at the time.
"You don't care about her, do you?"
"… How rude."
"Answer me."
"Enough to not let a nut go after her house."
"I'm not crazy!"
"Look…", Eloah said, starting the conversation with her. ", coming to think of it, this doesn't sound too cool, Personmea."
"What?", I asked, looking at her in disbelief.
"We go to the girl's house just to talk to her."
So my chip dropped, I was betrayed.
"Thank you, Eloah." Nata then took long, confident steps to her office door, she sure felt superior now that she had the approval of the majority (in this case, Eloah). Nata gripped the knob confidently and subtly opened the door to her office. "Please, now that our business is over, you may leave."
"No, it's not finished!", I decided to insist.
I believe that would be the easiest and fastest way to get in direct contact with Selena, I couldn't let that go.
After all, I'm not the best at communication, right?
I mean, she wasn't very approachable like that.
"Don't forget that i elected you!", I said, it was not a lie, my vote was decisive in the vote to elect a president.
"No, it was not. Your vote for me wouldn't really make any difference. I didn't even know you voted for me to be real."
"But I voted for you! I demand that you do your duty to me!"
"Personmea…", Nata closed the door behind her and came walking towards me who, at the moment, was already on her feet due to the euphoria of the moment. "Do you know how a democracy works? Or rather, how does the duties of a representative of any position work?"
"Yea."
"No, you don't.
This was the first moment in my entire life that I was able to look her straight in the eye. They were blue, very blue.
In fact, I don't think I should have mentioned it at this point, but she was one of the prettiest girls in our school. Nata was at the height of her 14 years, in her first year of high school. She was the youngest in her class, too, the most respected in it.
She had short, shoulder-length, brown, straight hair, a few blue streaks adorning the same. She wore the school uniform, she was an example to be followed.
At least, on paper.
In reality, she was extremely sloppy, messy, her entire political campaign for election being a (very well done) manipulation of the sophomores and juniors. In the beginning it was just supposed to be a joke from Nata's friends, in the end, it worked out very well and she ended up really being elected and becoming this symbol.
I didn't know that at the time it was released. I found out only after a good conversation with one of her friends, I admit, I felt like an idiot after that.
In fact, that was it! That's my final threat!!
"Actually, I do," I said, a wide smile on my face.
"No, it's not just because you voted for me that I'm in doubt with you. My duty is to represent the students of this school and take their wishes to the board and, then, fight for them. Not doing favors for my constituents." Her tone of voice was angry, she looked me up and down (literally, after all, she was smaller than me, much smaller).
"There is! Don't think I don't know," I said, stepping to the side and walking past her. Everyone present was looking at me at the moment, even Wojak, he seemed to be enjoying himself.
"Don't know what?", Nata asked.
"Why, you know very well."
"Hmm? Say It."
"I know well how you were elected, Miss Nata." I took my hand to the handle of the wooden door that Nata had closed earlier, held it tight and looked into the little girl's eyes with a wide smile on my face. "I know you're not what they say, you're sloppy, messy and maybe the only truth of your campaign is that it's hard, other than that, I know it was all a very successful little prank of your closest friends. old. You were elected by us, and your lie was also built and fed by us. I know all this."
Everyone was silent.
Everyone was looking at me.
...
"Okay, and then?"
"What?"
"What do you intend to do with this information?"
What? What's this?
She wasn't the least bit surprised. Zero. Anything.
"What did you expect? That I would be shocked? I already knew the way I was elected, well, I was in the middle of it after all." She walked over to her chair and sat down in it.
No, no, no, this is wrong. I can't be that bad at blackmailing people like that, right?
"No, I think he wanted you to be surprised that he knew about this," Eloah said.
"Oh, yeah, yeah, that makes more sense."
Man? Really?
"Still, if you leak this, do you really believe they'll believe it?"
"Yes." I nodded.
"Hm, I don't know if they would trust you, Personmea."
"Oh yes? So tell me why?"
"You're nobody here at school, I'm sorry to say that. Your popularity is low and even though she uses Eloah (highly popular) keep in mind that she was deposed from her vice post for lack of commitment to the school. She'd get out of jealousy easily. Sorry to say this, Eloah."
"Fine," Eloah said.
Oh yeah, she was the vice president of the guild, for personal reasons, she couldn't attend meetings and these types of commitments and ended up being removed from the guild.
And I… I really was a nobody at school.
Wojak held back to laugh when Nata called me Zé nobody, I should write that down here.
My strategy had gone awry, in fact, there was nothing else I could try to get the information I wanted from her.
Ended.
"And then? Are we finished for good?"
"Yeah, I think we're…"
"Fine, I ask you to leave then, I have a few things to do."
"..."
In silence, Eloah came to me and I opened the door, she came out, I gave Nata a good look at the same time that Wojak also came towards me. As I closed the door and looked at it, I could see Wojak, since he was invisible, bowing like a stage actor after the show.
Then, unusually, Nata said to me:
"Hey, don't take it personally, okay? You know I like you."
Wojak had already gone through the door, I still took one look at that, right after finishing his sentence, he gave a pious smile and waved.
I don't know if it was staged or not, I wish it wasn't.
I felt down.
Eloah was waiting for me outside, and when I left the room, she came straight to hug me.
"Don't worry," she said.
"Yeah, but…"
"I'll have my way," she said, interrupting me and releasing me from the hug.
"How?"
"I'm going after her, from Selena. If what you think is true, we won't let her be harmed."
"Really?"
"Yes, let's save her."
That sort of thing made me happy, she was with me, even after all.
My goal was to go after Selena, not because I'm crazy or a stalker, I was only going after her for two reasons: a Whistler could be harassing her.
I couldn't let that happen.
And two: Wojak was willing to kill this Whistler.
I couldn't stop him from doing that.
