Chapter 3: Prophecy? Again?

KENDALL 'S POV -

Miranda's hug comforted me a lot. After she woke up I felt like new life was breathed into me. It was funny how she was acting as my support system when my sole purpose was to keep her safe.

Her warm energy almost made me believe that nothing ever happened. But it did and my mom...

Tears pooled in my eyes but I held them back.

" Sorry to cut your reunion short but what was this prophecy Harper talked about?" A dismembered voice questioned. I felt too tired to make out whose it was.

I felt disconnected from the conversation. I couldn't feel more cut off from realty as I noticed daylight creep into the room. It was the early hours of dawn now.

" I am not quite sure." , the vampire king's brows scrunched up but something felt off. I glanced up to look at Miranda and indeed she signalled me that the king was not telling the whole truth. Well he didn't need to......I might just know what it was. I walked up to her corpse and snatched the locket from her neck. I could tell others were looking at me dumbfoundedly.

I opened the locket to find a picture of mine, laughing as she held me. My lips quivered as my eyes burned. Upon extracting the tiny photo, I broke the locket and from inside it rolled onto the floor, a parchment of paper.

Everything of value to her, including absolutely classified information, she kept clues to in her most valuable possession: her dollar store necklace. She always kept it with her as a five year old Kendall had gifted her mother something for the first time on Mother's day.

On opening the parchment, I found a single line: She is the end. Finish her . Signed, EL.

" Am I the end? Whose EL?", Miranda finally questioned.

" No, she was about to kill me. It was probably me mentioned here since I am the disgrace of her life. Maybe it refers to the end of the royal clan since having me was a disgrace.", Samarah cut in.

"Nonsense. She was a clan leader. She could damn well change the rules if she wanted to." , The vampire king barked.

" So could you. But even you had to keep your children hidden in the dark for years.", I countered. The king was silenced for the first time.

" Whose EL? What power does he have to command your mother?", Ken questioned concernedly.

" I have no idea and don't refer to her as my mother.", I said with gritted teeth. Miranda strengthened her hold on me. Her tight hold almost bruised me.

" We have to find this EL." Chris's willowy voice grabbed our attentions as he spoke for the first time.

His eyes drifted from Samarah to Miranda and remained there for sometime. Miranda then spoke up," But how?"

" You all must rest now. Meanwhile I shall find out whatever I can about this EL.", the vampire king spit out the last word.

All of us headed to the main hall. I had to hold on to Ken for support as I got up on my feet, mostly because I felt drained emotionally rather than physically. Meanwhile I saw Samarah cling to Damon like her life depended on it. Miranda seemed to not have heard the king as she remained seated. I beckoned her to follow and she simply stared at me as if about to say something. I was about to offer my hand to Miranda when another hand intercepted me.

" Hold onto me." , the vampire king arrogantly offered his hand to Miranda. She looked at his face and then at his hand before ushering it away. She stood up on her own and took a few steps only to stumble.

A protective hand on her waist stopped her from tumbling onto the ground. The, now familiar, willowly voice enquired," Can you walk?" , Miranda gazed at him as if disconnected from reality then slowly shook her head as if saying no.

Chris simply lifted her up like a toddler and walked with a beetred Miranda towards the hall.

The rest of us followed behind.

The king immediately began to discuss strategies with his troops, as he walked off with them towards the dungeon. Chris set Miranda down on the sofa (albeit it looked more like throwing her) and hurried off on the pretext of getting the first aid kit and refreshments.

"A tall vodka and blood tonic for me.", Damon bellowed.

Samarah looked at him with a scrunched up nose and eyebrows, almost glaring. " What? I need both right now."

" You should have made it two." , Samarah annoyedly remarked. "Well I am more intoxicating than Vodka and you are always welcome to have a sip of me.", Damon replied as his usual cheesy self. Samarah blushed and playfully hit Damon on the elbow. All this seemed like any other day .....if only my mother were here. All of this felt unreal.

Ken touseld my hair. His hand slid down cupping my cheeks gently," Doll .....will you be ok?" ,he asked. Never .

" I will be. I know I am strong. Just need to take my mind off these things for now.",I lied. I am sure he caught on as he looked at me with an almost pitiful expression. Unable to face him without breaking into tears I excused myself to leave his side and check upon Miranda.
