Chapter 1: Rewind

Hannah Oliver woke up to the sound of a plate clinking on the floor.

She lifted her head from where she was lying in the cold dark prison and glanced towards the guard who had thrown a plate of cold rice on the floor.

She did not sit up.

"Acting aloof?? you love to eat and yet you're not eating!!" the prison guard reached his foot in and cruelly crushed the rice.

He had heard that Hannah had attempted to murder Mia Robinson who had specially ordered him to torture Hannah while she was in prison.

Hannah sat in the corner, her eyes fixed blankly on the dirty food on the floor.

Outside the cell, the sound of the television could suddenly be heard from the prison guards room.

"Shine Group's CEO Steven Van has returned to the city today, right now he has arrived in Houston.Shine group is America's largest banking enterprise, Steven Van officially took over the company seven years ago.Today his position as a corporate tycoon is unshakable".

Hannah frozed, she rushed up to the door trying her best to look out of it. The prison guard turned around to see her sorry figure kneeling by the door

she must have looked frantic with her hands tightly holding on to the cold cell door and her bloodshot eyes fixating on the television.

"What are you looking at!! Do you even know whom the news is speaking about!!! A woman like you doesn't even have the right to tie his shoes" the guard said.

Hannah bitterly lowered her head.

Indeed the person she was today was not even worthy of tying Steven's shoes.

It did not matter that this person who had become Shine Group's CEO had ten years ago been her husband. She was once ambitious, proud and stubborn, back then all she had wanted was a divorce to completely push away this man who had spoiled and always protected her.

For ten whole years Hannah hadn't seen him.

"But what did the television say earlier!! Steven returned!! Did he come back from New York!!"

From the television came the voice of the reporter struggling to ask this question, " Mr. Van rumours say that the two of you married two months ago in

New York. Is this trip back to Houston meant to bring your beloved wife back home?"

Hannah's eyes widened, "He got married?"

While Steven was certainly a distinguished man today, even ten years ago he had been an influential figure with his good looks no one could match up to him.

Countless rich ladies have lined up dreaming of marrying him some day.

Right now he must be very happy.

"Mr Van you don't often speak in front of the media but since this is a rare occasion when you've returned to Houston could you speak about Shine Group's current.... Is... Is the lady following behind you Mrs Van? Mrs Van is indeed very beautiful".

A sweet female voice then spoke up,

"I apologize but Mr Van won't be accepting any media interviews, everyone please move back".

Hearing that voice Hannah felt as the lightning had struck her, That voice, it was her sister, Melanie.

Last Hannah heard was that Melanie had suddenly disappeared right before their family had gone bankrupt.

At that time, when Hannah had insisted on divorcing Steven, it was Melanie who had encouraged her to try all sorts of incredulous methods including cutting her wrist to cause steven to distance himself from her before eventually divorcing her.

Hannah began to laugh, she laughed until her lungs hurt.

"Since Mr Van won't be giving any interviews.

Will Mrs Van be willing to say a few words?"

The reporters remained persistent in their questioning.

Melanie followed behind Steven, her face brightened up with a smile.

Yet at this moment, Steven spoke up. His voice was apathetic with no warmth whatsoever.

"She is not Mrs Van".

Melanie's smile stiffened uncomfortably, she licked her lips to hide her embarrassment.

The surrounding reporters fell into a weird silence until a voice piped up.

"Rumours say that since Mr Van divorced Ten years ago, there has not been another woman".

Suddenly, Hannah could not hear the sound from the television anymore.

A sharp pain came from her abdomen causing her to fall against the floor as blood rose from within her chest spurting out of her throat.

It seemed that these people in prison had been slowly feeding her poison for the past three months.

Was her life going to end here?

It hurt to the point where her body stiffened. A whimper escaped from her lips but was instantly quieted by the man on top of her who sealed her lips with a kiss.
