He closed his eyes and began to feel out his new sense, he wanted to adapt to it as fast as he could so he focused on it. He searched his surroundings with the ability and determined that it had a strange vibe that made him feel as if something owned that environment, and it seemed to come from the trees. His eyes widened as he thought that he could possibly be detecting animal territory markings, at the same time his eyes began to grow irritated. His eyes tried to strain to see and it was emitting a pressure behind his eyes, so he closed them and determined that he would need to grow accustomed to the "Blindsight" quickly.
!!!Quest!!! (Find a safe place to rest and plan.)
Get somewhere where you can plan your next moves and wait for morning.
Wait Till Morning (7 Hours)
Reward: Black Combat Boots, Pair of socks
The quest had then made him aware that he had practically nothing on, only a pair of shorts which at this point were a soggy mess. He sat and began to scan his surroundings with his blindsight, which gave him a mental image. He decided that the easiest option after some time would be to climb a tree and wait it out . He had many good candidates and he decided to climb one about 6ft away from the tree that had saved his life. It had some nice low hanging branches and a split in the branches that made a sizable seat about 7ft up. He got into position and began to focus on his blindsight to get a better hold on it. A few hours passed before a strange thing happened, a screen appeared and left him slightly worried.
Blindsight [Sight] {Mutated} <30% Instability>
You have heightened senses that cause you to unnaturally become able to perceive your surroundings with astonishing accuracy, even things that hide their presence can not escape your awareness, but you cannot determine minute details such as the details of one's face.
Mutation: The skill is expressing a mutation that seems to be waiting for a catalyst, the skill grows unstable but has increased potential growth.
His brows scrunched as he understood the information, this was clearly a side effect of Entropy but it wasn't exactly as it said on the screen. Instead of creating a chaotic mutation it seemed to be waiting for a catalyst to transform.
!System Note! This is bi-product of Entropy and Evolution being used simultaneously through the Multi-task skill.
He didn't know what to think, it appeared that his skills could allow him to alter things a lot more frequently than he had anticipated.
!Mutation! Your brain has experienced a mutation and has better adapted to "Blindsight", your "Blindsight" skill is now more innately connected to your brain.
His brain thumped as these senses that had once only pertained to his instincts flooded his brain and gave him a tighter connection to that sense. His entire body lit up as he gained a better understanding of that power, it involved all of his senses beside his eyesight, but there was more to it than that. He could sense the light breeze and the rumbling water some feet below him. It was like the environment had a kind of life that he had never experienced before, and it clearly had a source, all of the… what should he call it? He decided that the best approach would be just to call it energy, all of this energy came from the same direction. It was coming from somewhere on the other side of the river but it was not close enough for his mind to make out the source.
He looked at his "Blindsight" skill and it had yet to change, it seemed that that was a mutation of his brain rather than the skill itself. He took a moment to calm himself as that news made him practically squirm, he didn't like that it messed with his body, he couldn't exactly be in control of that process. He felt energy moving through the space around him and his mind sensed a wave of sound that had come out of nowhere, it bounced around the area and hit him before bouncing off him and away. A screen appeared just before he felt something ram into him, he was still able to read the title and description though.
!!!Quest!!! [Beat the Bat]
A predator has set its eyes on you, it's kill or be killed!
Kill th—
He was flung out of the tree and felt himself in free fall moments before he slammed into the ground. He scrambled to his feet and focused on his surroundings, he could not sense the bat but its hunger seemed to permeate the air. Another soundwave entered his perception and he prepared for the creature this time, the soundwave hit him and bounced off to return to its origin. He felt something stir within him as the sound wave hit him again, it was like an itch in his brain.
A part of him pondered this and came to a strange result, he knew that the bat was using echolocation and he knew that it was possible for humans to learn a version of it, albeit weaker. He wanted to explore this idea but he was suddenly struck in the chest by a hefty creature. He confirmed that it was a bat as he skidded into the dirt closer to the edge of the water. Sure he was admittedly distracted by the revelation but he was not dumb enough to let the creature do that to him again, it was as if the creature had suddenly traveled the distance between itself and him in moments, he felt as if this was some how connected to its echolocation.
He had to solve this issue, the bat was larger than any bat he had ever heard of and it felt like it weighed a ton as it bodied him. He knew he couldn't let this go on, or it would somehow "kill him" as the quest claimed, even worse it might throw him back into the river, and he wanted to avoid that at all costs. His sides hurt as he checked his health, HP: 14/21 (66%). At this rate it might actually kill him, and he couldn't stand it. He focused on the situation at hand, if he couldn't sense the attack itself he would have to prepare based on the sound wave. He focused his mind until he had a clear image of his surroundings, then the sound wave came.
This time he was so focused that he got to truly picture the soundwave, it carried a type of energy, it had weight and was definitely different from that of the source. As he focused on this weight he felt as if something clicked inside of him and his thoughts began to condense into a wave before expelling from his mind into his surroundings. He sensed the waves escaping his senses before returning and telling him more information about the environment, and on top of that when they clashed the two energy types destabilized and the bat suddenly appeared from the collision and crashed onto the ground.
He then got a better sense of the creature as it shook its head and began to rise, he quickly tried to copy what he had done previously and a strange wave exited his body which seemed to be forceful somehow.
!New Skill!
Mental Wave Lvl 1.
Grade: Unique
The user creates a dense mental wave that comes out of their body, it carries their senses and can act as a form of echolocation. This skill can disorientate weak willed organisms by confusing their senses. This skill puts strain on the mind and can cause headaches, if used for an extended period it can cause migraines, and in extreme cases loss of consciousness. As you gain experience with the skill and level it up you can reduce the side effects.
The bat slammed its head against the ground in a strange attempt to get control of its senses. The creature was large! It was slightly larger than a large and fat house cat, and it had rough leathery skin. He released another wave and launched toward the beast, he was not going to let it get away with its previous actions toward him. He would get his revenge, he jumped on the creature and grabbed it by the nape of its neck, it immediately squirmed and tried to bite him. In order to prevent that and further problems with it, he kept on pumping mental waves focused onto the bat, it began to spasm and he wrapped his hands around its neck from behind. With rage he throttled the little winged monster and began ramming its head into the ground with all his might. He didn't want to be in this situation but he didn't think that he had an option.
!New Skill!
Concussive Force Lvl 1.
Grade: Rare
The user uses targeted mental waves to inflict powerful bursts of mental energy that can cause the target to fall prone and lose the ability to think for a few seconds, this may cause loss of consciousness. This skill generates a large amount of mental stress, and has a heavy toll on the user which lessens the higher level it is.
His head pounds as the creature grows still and he staggers off of it, he is breathing hard and his head feels as if it is splitting open. He uses what little reason he has left to watch the bat through his blindsight, he scrunches up on the floor and goes through his previous encounter.
