The Lamonts pt2 (25)

CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE

Though the room was moderately lit, the light was enough to reflect over his sharp features. Firm jaw lines, hallow cheekbones, full and surplus lips and his normally disheveled brown hair was neatly combed to the side. He barely looked the age of fifty.

The man who had previously walked into the room went down on one knee and bowed deeply in greetings. Despite the respect being given to Darius, his dull gray eyes looked down on the man.

The room was filled with silence as the man remained on moving from the ground. Uttering a word when you haven't been spoken too was as simple as signing a death lease. The tension was thick enough that one could easily choke on the sinister presence being emitted by him.

Relaxing in his throne, Darius placed one leg over the other while his elbow rested on the armrest to which he supported his jaw with, he said;

"speak…" though he hadn't raised his voice any higher than he normally would, it was loud enough to echo throughout the room.

"Father…" the man who looked to be in his mid-twenties stood up, with his head still slightly bowed.

"What news do you have for me, Oliver?" he demanded with his sharp nose tilting up.

The man looked up at him with his brown hair that looked similar to that of Darius. It looked as though he had been standing near the cliffs from how unkempt it looked. But unlike his father's dull gray eyes, his were amber in color

The man was the oldest son of the Lamont's, Oliver Lamont.

Pushing his hair back, Oliver relayed the information he had obtained to his father.

"The whereabouts of Leah have been confirmed by our Insider…"

Darius hummed a bit, looking down on Oliver with a bored expression, parting his lips, he said.

"…and the amplifier?"

"We…haven't gotten it…yet" the last part was added in a hushed tone. Oliver bowed his head apologetically and Darius narrowed his gaze so much that his eyes appeared to look like the slits on a snake.

"oh? And why is that?" he glared dagger at Oliver who softly gulped as he kept his gaze glued to the ground.

"It wasn't my fault! Pan-"Oliver's ramblings were cut off by Darius.

"excuses, excuses, excuses…that's all you're good at…" He stared oliver down with pure malice and distaste. How could this screw up possibly be his own offspring if he can't perform a simple task that had been assigned to him?

Putting his foot down, Darius Lamont stood tall as he descended the throne, taking slow yet intimidating strides towards Oliver who didn't dare utter a word.

"but…I foresaw your incompetence to this operation and took certain measures…" coming to stand before 0liver with only a few feet between them. Darius raised his gloved hand and snapped his finger, a wide screen was lowered and in it was the footage of a young girl who had a black cloth over her eyes and a gag around her mouth, both her legs and hands had been bind together as she struggled to free herself from the chair. Tears mixed with blood trailed down her cheeks as she did that, only muffled sounds of despair came out of her.

A wicked smile that didn't stretch along his face appeared as he snapped his fingers once more to have the screen lifted up.

The smile on his lips fell as he turned to address Oliver.

"Do your job right for once you lowly urchin…" he spat as he walked past Oliver. The doors were pulled open by the guards before he reached them.

Stepping out, the doors were closed with a heavy thud, leaving Oliver alone in the room.

Oliver gritted his teeth and clenched his fist, trying hard to suppress the anger that he felt.

Why did his father always belittle him like this? After all it wasn't his fault that they were unable to get their hands on the amplifier.

"tch…dammed old man…" Oliver hissed. Raising his tattooed arm up, he pushed the strands of hair that had fallen on his forehead back as he sighed.

Deciding there was nothing left to do here, Oliver left the room, making his way down the vast corridors that seemed to stretched on for miles, he encountered his other sibling, Luther Lamont, the second oldest son. There was a bitter expression on Oliver's face after meeting this troublesome and nosy brother of his.

Luther on the other hand held a peaceful but not so sincere smile on his face.

"I mean no harm dear brother…" he said with a smile on his face that reached his eyes. This was enough to irk Oliver even more than he already was.

Not wanting to speak any further to this brat, Oliver walked around him, but even then, that didn't stop Luther from speaking.

"You try to hard Oliver, you should know by now that you can never be his favorite.."

Oliver halted his steps. Without turning around he retorted back to this nosy brat.

"and you are?..."

Luther chuckled lightly as he turned to look at Oliver's back who still didn't turn around, he said;

"I never said I was…don't push yourself too hard because of Darius, Oliver…"

Oliver resumed his strides as he left Luther alone in the halls without sparing another word to him.

The smile that had previously been on his face fell, replacing it with a more bored look. He too turned and left the halls.

For as long as he could remember, their family had always been estranged; there was neither true love nor kindness in this world of theirs.

Right from the moment they could identify between the good the bad and the ugly, they had been thought to look out for nobody but themselves.

Deep down, Luther had envied Leah and her mother, being able to escape this hell hole was truly remarkable.

In the past to which he clearly remembered, Leah's mother had gotten pregnant for Darius and decided to keep them. Over the years as the girl grew, it was increasingly obvious that she had gotten all of his genes. Honestly he didn't know if it were a blessing or a curse.

Leah, she never really spoke to any of them and neither did they attempt to befriend the illegitimate child of Darius Lamont. Well asides from his younger sister that is. But all attempts to befriend the girl were fruitless.

During his life time, Darius had fathered a total of five children. There was Oliver Lamont, the oldest. Luther Lamont, the second oldest and then followed by the youngest two, Heath Lamont and Pandora Lamont.

These were the legitimate children of Darius, although their mother had passed away only a year after Thekla and Leah had gone missing.

Before she became his mistress, Thekla had first meet Darius on the bases that she was hired to assassinate him. But she had failed, instead of torturing her or questioning her, the two ended up falling in love or so she had thought at the time.

The two ended up having an affair and Leah was the product of said affair.

Right from the moment she was conceived, Darius knew she was special. Thus the decision that prompted him into bringing both mother and child underneath his roof. Off course his first wife was against this, but there was nothing she could do to change his mind.
