424. Not On My Watch

Being scared wouldn't help anyone right now. All she had to do was enjoy the ride, the least she could do was have faith in Jael and she did. She trusted him with her life.

His eyes gleamed in the nightlight, forcing her to look up at him. "Yeah," he replied. "Nothing is going to happen to you again. Not on my watch."

Jael broke eye contact and turned to Louis, "Thank you for your concern but as you have heard, she is fine."

"Yes, Sire. I heard that. What you think and what is right are two different things." Louis responded.

"Louis," Jael called, his gaze darkening.

"Well since you're waiting, I guess there is no harm in me heading backward for a few minutes. We would have a higher chance of running into them than just waiting out here where a Paler will easily chop off our heads."

Louis started walking away. Somehow Mauve didn't think it was a good idea to separate. She didn't need anyone to tell her they stood a better chance together.
