Eye of Siegfried Part 1.5

I was greeted by the low beeps of a heart beat monitor as I regained consciousness. I turned from side to side and found myself surrouded my medical equipments. I was inside a hospital room, which had been partially darkened because it was night. It seems that I had been unconscious for at least the entire day. I sighed in relief upon realising that I was safe. Part of me wondered if I had imagined the entire thing last night. That it was the product of a hallucination because I lost more blood than I realised from the carvings on my arm. But then I saw my legs, each wrapped in bandages where the creature had coiled itself and burnt it.

"In case if you were wondering, yes. What you experienced last night was real." I voice suddenly spoke out to me from the shadows.

"Who's there?" I asked weakly as I attempted to get off the bed, so that I could flee, should the situation calls for it only to find that both my hands have been handcuffed to the hospital bed. I then stared in horror at the shadows while attempting to wrest myself free when the voice spoke again. "Don't bother. As you are now, breaking out of those cuffs is impossible.".

"Who are you? And why are you keeping me handcuffed here?" I asked once more.

"Oh. I am not the one who cuffed you to the bed. The nurses did. They think you tried to take your own life so they have placed you under suicide watch.

As for who I am, my name is Regis Fairblood, I am the High Inquisitor of the Order of the Fairblood. We are a group consisting of ancient clans who have banded together to combat the forces of darkness in the defense of humanity. My interest was solely on this book you had in your possession. It belongs to my Order and it is in layman's terms, a manual for certain magic users training under the Order." he said before taking out the book I had somehow used to summon that 'thing'.

"This and many other tomes like it were stolen from us by the Nazis in the 1940s and we have been searching for them ever since. So you can imagine my surprise when I found a a preteen boy in possession of it." he continued before his voice turned serious at the last sentence. "So then, why don't you tell me where you found this." he added with malice in his voice.

"A bookstore near Hell's Kitchen a few blocks north of the subway tunnel." I replied weakly, my voice filled with fear. The man stood silent, gazing into my eyes and if trying to see whether or not I was telling the truth. His face then slowly broke off into a smile before he relaxed his posture.

"Looks like you're telling the truth. That makes my job easier. Now then, lets talk about more important things." he said while leaning forward. "Tell me one good reason why I shouldnt just kill you right here, right now."

My body tensed up once more as I stammered "Wha.... Wh..... What?"

"The Order of Fairblood values its secrecy. And you my friend, are a loose cannon. You summoned an Elder Elemental for what, because you got your feelings hurt? Can you imagine what would have happend if it got loose. How many people could have died? Moreover there is no telling how many secrets about the order you may have uncovered from this tome. As such, as per our laws I am duty bound to eliminate you to preserve our secrecy?" he said before taking out a knife.

In fear I began to try and get as far away from Regis as I possibly could but with my arms handcuffed, it was a futile attempt as Regis got up from the chair and began briskly walking towards knife in hand. At this point, I was sobbing and begging for my life. I tried to scream for help but I was still too weak to do so even as Regis grabbed my scalp and exposed my throat as threateningly placed the knife near an artery. The knife dug into my skin causing me to yelp in pain the it stopped in place.

"That is unless..... you are ready to hear my counteroffer?" he suudenly said causing me to freeze, I still the knife digging into my skin and I couldnt even muster the strength to speak. Regis then continued upon seeing that I had fallen silent.

"Heres my offer. Me and the Order will leave you alone with your life intact so long as you can prove to us that you are worth it. Master your powers, keep your new familiar in check and work as an extension of our will, subjugating the forces of darkness where you find it and in turn, we will guide you and train you where we can. Make your choice." he said matter of factly even though he himslef knew that i had no other option.

I nodded slightly and Regis retracted the knife causing me to breath properly.

"I will come for you when they finally stop their surveilance. Till then, i suggest you polish your Latin language skills." Regis said before disappeared into the shadows and i found myself alone.

It took me around half a minute before i broke down crying, thankful that I was alive but still fearful for my future. I regretted ever touching that accursed book.
