Flames of Revolution (FFXVI)

I awoke to the smell of burning cinders. I looked around groggily with my entire body in pain, unsure of where I was and how I got there. I felt a weight on my body and looked down only almost scream in fright. I saw one one of our knights cradling me as if he was shielding me from something at least whatever was left of him was. His body was charred beyond recognition, his armour was pratictically melting into his skin. There was no life in his body.

I began to try and get out of his grip practically sobbing uncontrollably. My arms exploded in pain as I tried to push the corpse off of me yet I didn't care.

It took a while for my 10 year old body to finally get free after which I began retreating away from the corpse, tripping on my feet along the way making me fall on my back. It took a while until I felt my heart sank as I recognised who the corpse was. Sir Jonathan, one of the Shields of Rosaria. Little by little I felt the memories resurface and I began looking around.

All around me I could see burning ruins and corpses of armoured soldiers either bearing the coat of arms or the Empire or the Rosfield House. It was at that point that I remembered where I was. I had accompanied my brothers and my father to Pheonix gate so that my older twin Joshua could visit the hall or the ancestors and then we got attacked by the soldiers from the empire..... and then..

I looked down at the headless corpse of my father and I felt my breath hitch. We were on our way out of Pheonix Gate when we were ambushed by empire soldiers disguised as Rosarians. They took us by surprise killing of most of the surviving soldiers before one of them managed to take my father by surprise killing him infront of both me and Joshua.

And then something happened to Joshua, I saw him bursting into flame and then Sir Jonathan grabbed me and tried to shield me. Did he awaken his powers? I thought to myself.

Seemingly, as if answering my question, I suddenly heard an inhuman roar. Making me look up and in the distance i saw the Pheonix, my brother battling a bipedal demonic creature.

Ifrit.

That was the name that came to mind when I saw it. My mind was immediately filled with fear for my brother as I saw them both exchange blows, turning Pheonix gate into a blazing inferno.

Despite my body's protests, I began running towards them with no real plan in mind. I had to know if my brother were safe. I took one last look at Sir Jonathan's body and inwardly apologised, promising to give him a proper burial for saving me.

I ran though the ruins which was now a flaming gauntlet of stone and flames. Evading crumbling walls and the occasional fireballs. Yet which each step I took. I was still unable to catch up to the two Eikons. Moreover, I was also unable to find any survivors making me worry even more about Clive. Was I really the only one left.

It was then I suddenly saw movement from near a fallen wall. It was Rodney Murdoch, the Captain of the Shields of Rosaria. His foot was stuck under the debris of fallen was with the flames closing on him as he tried to

Briefly, I saw flashes of Sir Jonathans lifeless body and knew I was about to let another person die and ran towards captain Murdoch, evading the flames around him. I immediately grabbed Murdoch, who was none too happy to see me.

"What are you still doing here milord? Quick you must escape while you can." He urged me while trying pull himself free. I ignored his words as I began looking around and picked up a small wooden beam. I then pushed under the debris blocking Murdochs legs and pushing down, trying to use it as a leverage to raise it enough for him to escape. It took a few tries but I was able to eventually free him.

Murdoch upon his release, immediately grabbed my arm and began to head towards the exit.

"Where is his grace?!" He asked in a panic.

I pursed my lips as tears threatened to fall from my eyes.

"They were waiting for us disguised as Rosarian soldiers. My father, he.... he's gone." I sobbed.

I felt Murdoch freeze in mid step as he heard that my father was dead which lasted only a split second before he began picking up the pace.

"All the more reason for you to leave. I may have failed to protect Elwin but I will at least protect you. " He said with his voice threatening to break.

"Wait what about my brothers. We have to help them." I said with urgence.

Murdoch was about to reply when we saw a door opening ahead of us. His stance tensed as he drew his sword but soon relaxed as he saw who came out.

"Captain? You're alive!" Several Rosarian knights emerged. Both me and Murdoch sighed in relief as we saw familiar faces among them.

"How many of you are there?" Murdoch ordered.

"About 40 able bodied men sir. And 20 injured. And I think some of soldiers were able to escape in the confusion when the pheonix attacked."

Murdoch began to pace back and forth in thought before addressing the soldiers.

"Half of us will stay behind. We'll try to aid Lord Joshua and Lord Clive. The rest of you take Lord Vash and the injured and head back to Eastpool. Once there send a stolus to the capital for reinforcements."

I began to protest, unwilling to leave without my brothers. I failed to notice Lord Murdoch give a small nod to a one of knights behind and the next thing I knew, I felt something struck the back of my neck and I began to lose consciousness.

(AN: What do you think MCs power should be? At first I was going to give him leviathans powers but it might come in the DLC so what do you think. The other powers I was thinking about was Nen from Hunter x Hunter since very few people try to use it.)
