Chapter 8
NORA
It's mid-week already, Nora wishes the weekend
would stay longer before it gets here, going to her family house reminds her of resuming school after a long break. She was always reluctant and sad, she was a border back then, and she wished her parents could be kind enough to move her to a day school like every of her friends, she enjoys the third term break better because she gets to stay long at home, eat healthily, and get fatter, then recuperate well unlike when she was in school. Each of her provisions gets seized by her seniors immediately on arrival, how she got to survive the rest of the term is history! She never wishes her unborn children the same fate. The home she wishes to go back to when she was younger is what she now dreads so much. Mothers have their ways to put you on your feet every time, her mom always has a way of ruining their perfectly running conversation whenever she puts a call through, she either asks if she is familiar with the color code 'cockroach brown' just to inform her about the wedding of her neighbor's daughter which she is planning to attend or she brings up a program she listened to on the radio about late childbearing or
pre-menopause just to advise her to be fast about settling down or just getting pregnant and bring her her grandchild.
Just last week, her mother forwarded a picture of her younger female cousin who had recently put to bed in the states, in a bid to announce that she has become an aunt for the tenth time but hasn't become a grandmother yet. Nora has constantly avoided her calls and stopped putting a call through to her until yesterday; her mom had sent her a picture of her being admitted to the hospital, with that she knows that visiting home is sincerely unavoidable. Nora clicks on Tade's Instagram story which was so round like a beaded waist "Tade! This girl has no care of the world at all" she chuckles as she kept viewing then paused an instant "Susan? Wait! Is this Susan for real?" she goes back to previous videos on Tade's story and zooms in "Susan clubbed! What in the mosquito net is she wearing? Tade has finally influenced Susan, baby girl has been dragged out of her shell" she bursts into laughter. She whirls away her free time on the search feed on Instagram she stumbles on her old crush's picture which she clicked on swiftly. She scrolls through and kept liking each post, zooming in on his personal
pictures and blushing all over again "he hasn't even changed much, still as cute as I can remember, he must be married by now" she remembers how she always dresses to kill whenever she senses Spence was in the neighborhood back then, how she would catwalk around just to get him to see how cute she looked yet she never got a hey or hello from him "good old days, I was so stupid when l was young, thank goodness I grew up". Her notification button pops on, she sees that Spence had just given her a follow back and had liked quite a number of her pictures as well, she drops her phone in shock "No way!" she picks up her phone again to refresh her feed to be sure she saw the notifications clearly, this time, Spence had liked more pictures of her. Nora screams in excitement, only then did she realize that that young stupid Nora was still there somewhere in her and was still crazily attracted to this guy. His messaged popped up, Nora couldn't get hold of herself; She typed her reply so fast like the guy would change his mind if he is kept a second to wait. They exchange pleasantries and asked about each other's
well-being and family, which gave an answer to her thoughts about him being married, they chat about how long it has been and how they never got to talk despite living in the same neighborhood.
Spence informs her that he is even around the
neighborhood for the renovation of his parents'
house and he might be staying for a couple of
weeks. Nora's ears tingle at this information, she
grins so hard like her favorite meal has just landed on her table. Well, the sexy single Spence was more than a meal. Now she looks forward to the weekend and she would request a day off just to spend the next day shopping and packing for her travel "Looks like mom's illness is a blessing in disguise" she blushes.
