Loud hip-hop plays in the fitness center as I finish working on my arms and chest. I raise the weights higher, grunting.
"Hold it," my spotter, Jose, says.
I hold the weights higher, and my muscles burn.
"And, one," he says.
Then, slowly, I move the weights back, and Joe places them on the rack.
I sit up, heaving.
"That's all for today?" Jose questions.
Quickly, I nod, leaning over and placing my elbows on my knees.
"Looks like the future partner of Benson and Brash is finally tired.”
I look at Uma walking towards me dressed in her workout gear.
She throws a towel at me.
I catch it, noticing something sparkle on her left ring finger. Uma and I are done, but a pang of jealousy hits me like a punch. I shake my head.
"Could you have waited two more years?" I rub the back of my neck with the towel and chuckle. "I mean, it's so soon after the divorce."
Uma laughs, showing off her engagement ring. "You better be kidding."
