FIVE.

Jake always asked Tori to accompany him to the Hotel whenever he had an important job to attend to. When he had no plans going there the whole day, he leaves her at home, giving her the much-needed break she craves for.

Tori was happy when Jake didn't ask her to accompany him to the hotel for three days straight.

On the fourth day, thinking Jake was going to let her be, she flopped on the couch after breakfast. She was going to complete the book she had been reading throughout the night.

She was at the climax of the book when Jake's voice snapped her from her fantasy.

Feeling his gaze hot on her as usual, she sat up. She really loved to see the color of his eyes, but his hair won't let her.

"Don't you have anything important to do with your time?"  He scowled. Tori pursed her lips. She was getting used to his outburst.

"Dress up, we're going out" he snapped.

"What's up with this dude today?" She muttered.

"You should learn how to keep some of your thoughts to yourself rather than voicing them out" Tori turned swiftly to face him. Her hands were over her mouth in shock. She didn't know he grasped her words.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to" she mumbled before scurrying off.

After a brief meeting with his staffs, Jake returned to his office, where he had left Tori. He thought he heard someone sobbing, but he shook the thoughts off.

When he walked in, Tori had her head on her thigh while she sobbed. This amused Jake, but he still needed to find out the reason for her action.

"Why are you crying?" He asked with a soothing voice.

"You yelled at me before you left for your meeting" she scowled then continued crying.

Jake couldn't help but laugh. This was the first time he was encountering someone who cries because she was yelled at.

"Jeez! Anyway, get these from the mall when you're done crying" he smirked, stamping a piece of paper on her sweaty forehead.

"Can't you apologize?" She yelled after him.

"Unfortunately, no" Tori rolled her eyes, muttering "Jerk" under her breath.

When the Uber driver pulled up in front of the mall, poor Tori realized she had no money to pay the fare.

Her eyes were heavy with tears as she stared back at the driver, who was looking expectantly at her for his money.

"Sir… I'm sorry, I don't have any money on me. I swear, it wasn't intentional. It's just that… "She filtered off, not knowing what to say next.

The Uber driver frowned at first, but a smile lit up his face a few seconds later. "Run along and don't get into any more trouble" he cooed.

His act of kindness was based on Anne Frank quote which says; No one had ever become poor by giving.

Without any further ado, Tori dashed out of the taxi. She headed straight into the mall to get everything she needed.

"Here, everything costs $100" the cashier said as she handed a sealed bag which containing all she purchased.

The cashier still had an expectant look on her face, but her pay.

"What's wrong with me?" Tori muttered. If she was thinking the cashier was going to be lenient with her, she was wrong. With a long face, she turned towards the cashier, who already had a scowl on her face.

"You think we run a charity organization here, huh!" She yelled at Tori. She kept ranting while Tori bent her head in shame while crying in anguish.

"What's going on here?" Someone asked from the blue. Tori refused to raise her head, instead she kept praying for the ground to open up and swallow her.

The hand on her back was cold and heavy, that was what made her raise her head.

"What happened?" The woman smiled sweetly at her. From the heavy hand on her back moments ago, Tori thought it was a man. She was shocked to discover the hand belongs to a lady.

"I don't have money to pay. I wasn't thinking straight when I walked in here. I wouldn't have done that"she sobbed.

"Stop crying, it's fine" she said as he handed the sealed bag to her.

Tori looked at her, her eyes still swollen from the tear she had shed. "I don't have money to pay, I'll just return home and get some money"

"I've paid for it already, so you don't need to worry" her words made Tori's lips break into a smile lighting up her sad face.

"You look so pretty with your smile on" she cooed, giving her a friendly smack on her cheek.

Tori turned towards the cashier, who was still scowling at her. When their eyes met, she quickly turned away.

"I'll be leaving now. Thank you" she said to the kind woman. Without waiting for her response, she bolted out of the building.

She had no money to pay for the fare. She had no choice rather than to walk back to the hotel under the scorching sun.

"No need praying for a kind human when I already have two already. That jerk is going to pay for every single thing. The embarrassment and all… I'll make sure he pays. Like come on, he does that…" She bumped into the traffic warden.

"Miss, watch where you're going?" He scowled at her.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to" she said at once, not wanting to get into more trouble than she already had that day.

She kept on soliloquizing until she banged her head on the lamp post.

"Ouch! This is no fun" she groaned rubbing her aching head.

The rest of the journey was done with utmost care. She made sure she kept her eyes on the ground as she gropped her way back to the hotel.

The sun was blazing hot, causing her to sweat profusely. Her throat was parched. She needed a cold drink of water, but she had no money for that.

She got to the hotel about an hour later. Amelia, Jake's favorite worker, was at the gate to receive her.

Amelia face fell when she saw a distressed Tori walking towards her.

"Tori dear, Jake asked me to give you this money for your fare home" she said. She pitied the tired girl standing before her.

It was as if the whole world came crashing on her shoulders when Amelia finished talking. As usual, her tear gland decided to release more tears.
