After their intense warm hug which lasted for some minutes, Carl finally withdrew from her feeling satisfied and Anne felt the need to speak up at last.
"Are you done?" Anne said flatly
"No, I'm not!" Carl said. He cupped her face with his hands and kissed her forehead. "I've missed you so much" he smiled.
"what are you doing here and how did you find me??... Dexter told you I'm here right?" She questioned Carl.
"Dexter is so screwed" Anne whispered to herself with a clenched jaw.
"Please don't blame Dexter," Carl said
"you still haven't told me what you're doing here?" Anne said glaring at Carl
"I'm here to take you back to New York," he said holding her hand firmly.
"let go of me" she ordered pulling her hand from him.
"why? Is this place your new home or what?" Carl said looking around feeling disgusted.
Carl now saw that it was a local dairy farm. It looked so dirty and unkept with lots of hay messed up everywhere. Roosters were running around making noises and cattle were lowing in their barn.
Carl wasn't comfortable at all with the environment and its stench. He felt like he could throw up any second if he stayed a bit longer.
"Yes!! this is my home and I'm not leaving" she said in a high-pitched voice.
Carl scoffed in disbelief at what she just said.
"you're kidding" he held her hand tightly again.
"Come with me let's leave here now!" he said with a straight face pulling her.
"No!! let go of me" Anne yelled, struggling to let go of her hand from Carl's grip.
Carl let go of her hand and he let out a sigh of frustration.
"Why? Anne why do you prefer to stay in this DISGUSTING place?" he said huskily.
Anne exhaled feeling a little upset because Carl called her hometown disgusting.
"for your information, this is where I grew up before I got to New York. It might be disgusting to you since you're filthy rich and you never got to know how it feels like to live in a shabby environment like this, waking up In the morning and not knowing what to eat. But for me, this place held a lot of good memories I shared with my late parents." Anne said.
"Anne I'm sorry I didn't know. I'm sorry I called this place disgusting" Carl said feeling remorseful.
"Yeah, you're always sorry. Now leave this place... You don't belong here and you're not welcome at all," she said pushing him.
"I'm not leaving without you. If I have to leave you're coming with me" he stood his ground.
"No!! There's nothing left for me in New York" Anne said.
She stopped trying to push Carl because it was no use, he was way stronger than her so she gave up.
"Since you don't wanna leave, I'm going to leave you standing here all by yourself," she said and turned her back to leave.
"what about Carlos?" Carl said but she kept on walking
"don't you care about him? Anne he's in a coma" he yelled for her to stop and Anne stood still after hearing that Carlos is in a coma.
"He got into a terrible accident and he has been in a coma for three months now fighting for his life," Carl said in a shaky voice.
"so what do you want me to do huh?" she yelled as she turned to face him. "you and Carlos will definitely say anything for me to go back to him with open arms."
"you don't believe me?" Carl questioned, "Anne why would I wanna lie about an accident concerning my best friend?"
"But you've lied to me before, isn't it? You covered up for your cheating best friend and lied to me to protect his relationship knowing fully well that I meant nothing to him… Now, how do you expect me to believe anything that comes out of your mouth." Anne said.
"Anne, I made a terrible mistake, I shouldn't have lied to you, I'm really sorry Anne. I also couldn't bring myself to hurt you and I don't want to justify myself because of that. But right now, I'm actually telling the truth. Carlos is really in a coma please believe me" Carl pleaded
"you're saying this so that I'll go back to New York right?" she said
"Yes... No" he stuttered.
Carl actually wanted Anne to go back to New York no matter what. He wasn't sure of how to respond to her so she could change her mind and go back to New York with him.
"hmm" Anne shook her head in disbelief.
"Show me a picture of Carlos in a coma, I need to confirm that you're telling me the truth," She said crossing her arms and looking at Carl with doubt.
"yeah I will," Carl said confidently.
He brought out his phone to look for a picture and then he remembered he didn't take any pictures of Carlos at the hospital.
"okay I don't have a picture right now but hold on, I'll call the doctor in the hospital to send me a picture of Carlos in a coma," He said dialing the doctor's number to call him.
"good luck with that" Anne said sarcastically.
Carl tried to call the doctor over and over again but there was no service at all.
"Oh, shit! there's no service. I can't get any service here," he said waving his phone up in the sky to search for a network.
"No wonder your number has been unavailable whenever I tried calling you," he said.
"yeah! there's no service here. You can get lost now." Anne said
"But I'm telling the truth, Carlos is really in a coma" he insisted.
"Enough of this!! Carlos and I have broken up and we're never getting back together because I've moved on with my life. Now get lost!!" she yelled
"you too broke up??" Carl was shocked.
"Why not? Do you expect to stay in that relationship after he cheated?..." Anne sighed.
"Now leave, I'm warning you," she said, pulling Carl's arm to where he parked his car. Meanwhile, Carl was like an unmoving rock. To Carl's eyes, Anne was just stressing herself.
A beautiful, lady with short curly hair who should be in her early forties came out of a small wooden house because of the arguments she heard from outside. she decided to take a look and she saw Anne and Carl arguing and pulling each other. She wasn't sure what they were arguing about
"Anastasia!!" the lady yelled to get Anne's attention but Anne and Carl barely heard her as they were arguing.
The lady walked closer to the scene
"Anne? What are you doing?" she said and both Carl and Anne kept quiet.
The lady took a good look at Carl admiring how good-looking he was from his head to his toes. Carl's handsomeness was totally beyond words. He looked so clean and expensive even with the casual outfit he was putting on.
He was wearing a grey color fitted buttoned-down short-sleeved shirt that showed off his manly body and his biceps. he was also putting on black jeans and white sneakers.
"Who is this handsome young man?" the lady said to Anne smiling at Carl.
"Victoria it doesn't matter. He was just about to leave" Anne said glaring at Carl.
"Anastasia don't be rude. What's your name young mister?" the lady whose name is Victoria said to Carl.
"I'm Carl McAlester, Anne's friend," Carl said stretching forth his hand to shake Victoria with a sweet smile on his face.
The fact that he introduced himself to Victoria as Anne's friend, pissed Anne even more. They might be friends but they're not on good terms at all.
"I'm Victoria Stark" she returned the handshake smiling back at him which made Anne roll her eyes.
"Anne's mom and I used to be best friends before her passing… and uhm since you're Anne's friend, why don't you come in, let me entertain you properly," Victoria said
"Sure! I'll love that" Carl said grinning from ear to ear.
He was happy at the way Victoria was treating him nicely.
"What??" Anne exclaimed loudly.
"I mean..." she lowered her voice.
"Carl, weren't you about to leave?" Anne said with gritted teeth.
"No I wasn't," Carl said to Anne with a little smirk on his face that annoyed Anne.
Carl has won this round because Victoria just invited him to her house.
"so this is what you two have been fighting about like teenagers in love" Victoria giggled.
"Hahaha, very funny," Anne said sarcastically.
"Please come in!" Victoria took Carl's hand into the house.
"let's see how long prosecutor Carl McAlester will last in this place," Anne said to herself and followed them from behind into the house.
Anne has seen Carl's exotic mansion in New York so she knew that Carl wouldn't cope with the poor environment because he is not used to the poor lifestyle.
