Chapter Forty-Three

Yet again I am catching Jenni as she collapses, she was meant to be resting and relaxing today, not getting stressed out to the point of passing out and on top of that they were attacked. Lifting her in my arms her weight barely registers in my arms. Chris checks her pulse, I'm still shocked that he is here and helping, come to think of it how did he know they were under attack, Carl wasn't even able to inform me until he was close enough.

"Her pulse is weak. Joe, we need to get her to a doctor now." He doesn't have to tell me, before I know it, I am at the pack clinic and storming through the entrance scaring the hell out of everyone in my path.

"Alpha what happened? Is she ok?" Doctor Carlos asks rushing to my side and taking her pulse.

"I don't know her nose started bleeding and then she collapsed I think she passed out from stress. I am not sure."

"Shit her pulse. Let's get her into a room and checked over." He moves to a room nearby; nurses sweep in behind me and I find myself shuffled out the room. Pacing around the waiting room, I impatiently wait for the doctor to come out with the verdict. Catching Chris fiddling with his phone out of the corner of my eye it reminds me of the whole incident that caused all this in the first place.

"How did you know the rogues were attacking them? Carl couldn't mind link me until he was nearer the pack." I ask trying to take my mind off the room she is in, Godric getting frustrated that we haven't heard any news about Jenni yet constantly chanting pup hurt in my head.

"She called me to ask about one of my pack members."

"A pack member?"

"Yeah, it was strange. She said about training then asked about Gregory-"

"What did he do now?" I snarl glaring at Chris causing him to lunge to his feet.

"Both of you stop" a small male voice commands taking us by surprise turning around I find Sam.

"Sam. Are you okay? The doctor should be out soon to let us know how your sister is."

"Alphas" he nods respectably but I don't like it he shouldn't bow to us "Jenni is fine I got what she needs. Which room is she in?" I point to the room frazzled at his calmness and the fact he knows what she needs without even seeing her. Following him into the room he bypasses all the medical staff and goes to her side, uncorking a small vial he dribbles it into her mouth. It works instantly scaring the crap out of me as she sits up with such speed that I am surprised she doesn't get whiplash.

"Thanks Sam." And apparently, she isn't even shocked when this happens, does that mean this has happened before?

"Anything for you" he gives her a side hug before asking "It was them wasn't it." She looks down at him meeting his gaze.

"Not happening again." Her eyes close briefly but when she opens them up again, I see the usual fire burning inside them.

"Jenni. What on earth did your brother give you? You were out cold." Doctor Carlos stammers shocked at Jenni's sudden state of consciousness.

"It is a family recipe. I can show you it tomorrow if you would like. Or even Sam or Lily could show you if you want but they struggle with the names of the plants still."

"Yes, but what is it?"

"Oh, it gives you a little pick me up to help when you're exhausted. I suppose it is like adrenaline but a herbal version."

"Interesting. However, I do want you to spend the night here so we can keep an eye on you." seeing her about to object I jump in.

"You're staying put and that is an order."

"Fine" she mutters "Sam can you ask Luna Sarah or Chelsea if they would help you wrap Jet's presents and don't forget to hand out everyone's gifts."

"Already done sis."

"You're too good." She ruffles his hair "For training work on cardio-"

"Stop. We will sort that out. What you need to do is rest and also to tell us what happened-"

"And why you wanted to know about Gregory." Chris adds stepping into the room.

"Gregory seems awfully interested in Scott and attempted to yet again take him away."

"What?" I roar.

"He approached Scott in the toy store and tried to accuse him of stealing before trying to take him out of the store."

"That doesn't sound like him. I think I should have a talk with him to see what's going on."

"I would like to be there when you do. Would you mind doing it here?"

"That won't be a problem. Now about the rogue attack." He turns his attention back to Jenni. So, obliging us she explains about the rogue attack but very conveniently leaves out the vampire part.

"And the-"

"Sam, do you mind getting me some clean clothes?"

"Sis, I am old enough to hear what you want to say. I know there was a vampire. I smelt it on the way out."

"Damn it. I forgot I taught you all about different scents."

"They are back, aren't they?"

"Sam there is no need to worry we killed them all in the last war." I see the way he glances at Jenni, and it is like they have their own silent conversation whilst we watch on. "Care to share?"

"Not all of them are gone." Sam blurts out "They helped kill my parents. So don't just stand there and tell me, no tell us that they are all gone." He storms off leaving us standing their stunned as the door slams behind him.

"It is coming up to the anniversary of our parents' death please forgive his rudeness, Alphas." Jenni flops back onto the pillows in defeat.

"Jenni why does your brother seem to think vampires killed your parents? Did you lose your parents in the war?"

"No, we lost our parents after that. And I was trained on the scent of vampires plus it's not the first time I have smelt them." she was trained and has smelt vampires before, how is she still alive she would have only been a young pup.

"What do you mean not the first?" Chris asks looking as confused as I feel right now.

'Alpha, rogue activity near the border.'

"I got to go rogue activity, but we will be continuing this conversation whether you like it or not later."
