Chapter Forty-Five

ALPHA JOE POV

I was finally getting somewhere with Jenni and getting some goddamn answers then there had to be rogue activity outside the border of my territory. They weren't necessarily there to attack us and we did not go out of our way to attack them but I didn't want to overlook anything after the attack on Carl and the pups this afternoon. With Chris by my side, which is still strange we head out to where the patrol came across their scent.

"Do you think Jenni will stay put?" Chris asks me absent-mindedly as we stroll through the forest. Dean in his wolf form trots up beside me ready to cover my back if it all goes to shit.

"Doubt it. You've met the pup. She is headstrong but I am worried about her state of mind after everything she has been through and now the attack. Plus, she isn't sleeping, she has been fixing and making things and doing a whole lot of other stuff around my pack without me knowing."

"There was me thinking nothing got past you Joe and a mere pup has you running around like a little lost lamb." Glaring at him I see him biting his lip to stop him from laughing, he isn't wrong though.

"Just wait for her to start training your pack. Scratch that I wouldn't put it past her to start working in your pack when we finally sign this treaty. We may need to put that as a clause in it."

"What the hell you on about? Why would the pup work?"

"I ask myself that frequently but she has been sneaking around my pack at night fixing broken porches, roofs making play equipment for the pups" he halts making me stop on reflex.

"She built play equipment? How does she know how to do all this?"

"I forgot you didn't get to see the obstacle course she built. I will have to show you it along with our new play area for the pups. They are spectacular and you will probably beg me to lend her to you to make your own."

"Normally I would disagree with you Joe but this pup is special."

'She is something, isn't she? She is great with all the pups and our youngest boys are head over heels for her.'

"She definitely does have our youngest boys infatuated with her. Cayden cannot work out how to feel about her, it was pure hate after he lost against her on the hunt when they first met, then he seemed to try and find any chance he could to be around her failing miserably as she easily dodged him. Then after the obstacle yesterday I think he hates her again."

"I must admit I cannot wait for Ryder to meet her. Think she may put him through his paces too. Whoever gets her as a mate though will be damn lucky."

"Well, we have a suspension it may be Jet. She seems to have a soft spot for him and went out to get his birthday presents with some of the pups."

"She knows it's his birthday?"

"Yeah, I am assuming by Connor."

"Possibly" he looks thoughtful so I leave him be.

'Joe. Reports of more activity on the border.'

'Ok. Dean. can you go ahead and keep watch from a distance until we arrive. I don't want to provoke an attack if they are just passing.' Running off on my order I pick the pace up slowly, Chris doing the same.

Arriving at the border seems to make the rogues alert and shifty, noticing me one of them edges closer before shifting.

"We mean you know ill will. My family and friends have come across trouble further afield from your packs and do not wish to get involved so moved away."

"Being how many there are of you why do you not have a pack?"

"Our pack was destroyed three months to go. It was only a small one and not well known and no pack near us would accept us. We had no choice but to become rogues."

"What was the name of your pack?"

"The Moon Howlers, our Alpha was Alpha Elijah Claw."

"I recognise that pack but did now know of the attack. I hope you can understand we would need to verify this but if it is true. I would be more than happy to accept you into my pack."

"How can you know? You are so far from us we have travelled far."

"Alpha Elijah and I have fought beside each other in the past. You may come with me onto my territory until we clarify this but know you will be heavily guarded until then you will not be restricted to just your rooms."

"I must confer with them, it may take us a while would that be acceptable?"

"It is. Please inform my beta of your decision." And right on queue Dean appears bare-chested in a pair of shorts.

'Alpha?'

'What's wrong?'

'Is Jenni with you?' Damn I ordered her to stay put I know we were just debating if she would stay but I was convinced she would listen to me.

'No, she is not I told her to stay and rest. Are you sure she isn't at the clinic?'

'One hundred percent sure Alpha. When we noticed the bed was empty we checked everywhere at the clinic. I have sent a couple of pack members out to search the pack area but I wanted to make sure she was not with you.'

'Have you checked with Sam?'

'We have not seen him since he stormed out of here.'

'Ok. Check with Lily she may know where the both of them are.'

"Damn I need to get those pups officially into my pack."

"You haven't done that yet. Wait what's happened?" Chris asks concerned

"Jenni-"

"Left the clinic?"

"Not sure. But presuming she has seeming as she is nowhere to be found at the clinic. Then Sam is apparently absent too."

"Come on I will help you. I want to hear the answers from Jenni about this vampire fiasco."

It took us half an hour to locate Sam after returning due to him ignoring Lily's mind links. It wasn't until she mentioned Jenni was missing that he skidded into my office demanding to know what happened to her.

"So she didn't tell you where she was going either."

"No, and she wouldn't have gone anywhere without telling me so what has happened to her?"

"You sure she would tell you?"

"Yes. And if she didn't, she would have at least answered our mind link but I cannot even connect to her. On top of that, I cannot sense her anywhere nearby."

"That is true being family they should be able to sense where each other are on your territory," Chris tells me.

"But the rogues were on the borders. No one has scented anyone unusual on our land."

"Must be someone you know."

'Carl I need you to check the security footage at the clinic to see if we can locate how Jenni got out.'

'Alpha we already did this when her room was empty. There is no sign of her leaving that room.'

'Get a-'

'Oscar is already on it Alpha. If I get any news I will let you know immediately.'

"No signs of her leaving the room," I tell them as I watch Sam pace the room clearly upset "Sam why don't you-"

"Don't you dare Alpha my sister is missing and you will let me help." he pleads with me.

"Fine." I sigh, now where the hell am I going to start in looking for her.
