Chapter Forty-Nine

CAYDEN POV

How can so much happen in so little time? I hadn't woken up until after midday after passing out this morning, the commotion from a rogue attack having woken me. Now I am running behind Godric in an attempt to save Jenni, I'm exhausted from searching for her after little sleep alongside the rest of the pack, I'm full of guilt from not doing my part in the pack, I've been slacking off and I should have been using my time to help dad out and do my part. Screeching to a halt I follow dad's lead and crouch down low.

'What is going on? Why aren't we moving?' Hunter snarls through to me, agitated as me, his need to spill blood in retaliation riding him strongly, this time I don't blame him and it is only with our agreement of letting him that he hasn't taken control yet.

'No idea. I feel like we are being taken on a wild goose chase.' How dare Gregory kidnap one of our pack, from our territory and why the hell did he take Jenni, from what I have heard she has stopped him from taking that young pup Scott but why not just take him instead of her and why does he what that pup?

Following dad to the east, I am thankful that Sam is following Gregory because there would have been no way we could have tracked Gregory here there are too many scents here to distinguish who's is who's. The only thing I can distinguish is that there has been a heavy footfall of rogues in the area recently, there are also a few other scents mingled underneath theirs but I cannot work out what they are with the strong scent of rogue.

Lost in my thoughts I nearly crash into Godric as he halts in front of Sam, pushing his head into Sam's chest, he truly cares about Jenni and her siblings.

"It's a cabin. Gregory entered through the front door but cannot see anyone else. Jenni managed to tell me there are a vampire, a witch and two shifters inside with her. I think she is heavily injured as-" hearing this Godric is sprinting forward and me and Dean along with Chris's two pack members are not far behind him, as we leap through the cabin's windows.

'Dad, we are right behind you' I link 'blood, Dad is that?' The stench of blood hits me and Hunter's growl is deafening in my mind.

'Cayden, concentrate.' Reaching the bottom of the stairs I pounce into an invisible barrier, the cackle that comes from one of the females on the other side sends a cold shiver down my spine, Searching the area my body stiffens as my eyes snap onto Jenni's bloody and battered body being held up by a hand around her throat, the culprit looming over her. Growling, matching growls sound around me, we need to get to her and capture the others, pushing forward again I am met with resistance again.

'Why can we not pass?' I snarl through the link to my dad hoping he will know what to do.

'Alpha?'

'Barrier, the witch has cast a fucking barrier spell. There is no way past it.' Dad growls out into a group link.

'But we cannot leave her like that.' I whimper, letting Hunter's panic get the better of me as he zero's on Jenni's wounds. How the hell is she still alive?

"Oh, lookie here if it isn't the big bad wolf from the Evergreen Forest. Now what shall we do with you." an electric shock courses through my body sending me to the ground. "And you thought the four of you could defeat us how pathetic." My eyes stay narrowed onto Jenni, Hunter pushing forward in an attempt to take control and kill everyone who dared touch her.

To my utter shock, I watch as Jenni's body jerks slightly as she struggles to move without detection whilst the other four behind the barrier watch us with amusement. 'Come on Jenni, you can do it you're a warrior' chants in my mind and I realise that dad is cheering her on and I find myself cheering her on, because he is right, she is a warrior and the strongest wolf I have met.

"Now what shall we do with the mutts?" the witch sneers.

"Perhaps, we can get the young alpha to be to do our bidding?" the man muses but what he doesn't realise is that Jenni has clasped hold of the handle of his dagger.

"I think" she splutters before coughing, blood splattering in his face "that I want to talk now." the man's attention goes back to her, lifting her higher off the ground by her throat he brings her to his eye level.

"Is that so pet?"

'How dare he call her pet?' Hunter snarls his lips peeling back to show his sharp canines.

"Nope" she sasses and plunges the dagger through his chest with all the strength she has, dropping her, his hands clasp his chest with shock, with the dagger still in her hand she uses the last bit of her energy she launches the dagger at the witch landing it right in her chest before she collapses to the ground. The barrier must break as Godric leaps over Jenni's body to protect her, turning my attention to the witch I rip her throat out to make sure she is dead and head toward the man who called her pet. Dean and the other two heading towards Gregory and the other shifter.

JET POV

Shadow is itching to take control but I cannot allow it the firm squeeze on my shoulder draws me back to the dot on the screen my eyes haven't left since we got in the SUV.

"We will find her so calm down. You can take your anger out on those who took her but don't kill them. We need information." Dad reprimands me using his aurora slightly to help me push Shadow back before he tears everything to shreds.

"It seems you are more knowledgeable than you have let on, Jake. Is there something as your Alpha I should know?" whipping my head towards dad in panic, I watch as he schools his impression.

"Alpha Chris, I am not sure what you mean." He says it so calmly it even fools me.

"Do not take me as a fool. Once this is over you and I will be having a long chat about how you think you can carry on hiding who you actually are." Does that mean he knows we were part of the royal pack or that he is a beta? Damn it, how much does he know?

"Look it's stopped" Carl exclaims, his phone in hand ready for Sam to call him.

"There doesn't look like there is vehicle access I will get as close as I can then we will go on foot. One of you bring the bag with the first aid kit." Chris orders

"I'll bring it and stay in human form."

"Ride my back, Carl" Dad tells him "I am big enough that it shouldn't be a problem and we can get there together."

"Thank you, Jake." He nods at dad, pulling over we all leap out of the vehicle. Carl grabs the bag before climbing onto dad and I impatiently pace waiting for Carl's directions.

Slamming the door open I follow Carl into the cabin, I can hear the growls and snarls from below and head off without another thought towards them, Chris right beside me, barrelling down the stairs my eyes catch Gregory standing off against the beta of the Evergreen Forest pack, lunging at him he turns in time to send me into Chris and another wolf sending us into a heap. How the hell is there fewer of them and they are coming out on top? My eyes catch Jenni's limp body under Alpha Joe as I attempt to get up off the ground, my body freezes as I fight control with Hunter and what we should do, half of us want to kill those responsible for Jenni's state the other wanting to get Jenni out of here and to help.

'Son, snap out of it.' Dad snarls at me but my mind is lost as images from the past and the loss of Angelica swarm me.
