Chapter Fifty-Eight

CAYDEN POV

The scent seeping into my room has me skyrocketing out of bed dislodging Scarlet from where she was wrapped around me, seeing her naked form sends a shiver of disgust through me, why the hell did I sleep with her? I know I was angry but – the scent hits me again as I unintentionally take a sniff.

'Mate' Hunter growls and I take in another long sniff, the smell has me nearly drooling at the mouth, her arousal making it even more tantalising, I'm going to kill whoever made her smell like that. Throwing a pair of shorts on I stalk to my door to track the scent but it gets fainter, weird why would it get fainter? Did that mean the scent was coming from outside? Heading back to my window I confirm the scent is stronger there.

"Baby, what the fuck? What the hell has gotten into you?" Scarlet screeches at me after detangling herself from the sheets, ignoring her I storm back to my door eager to get outside and locate where the smell is coming from. Scarlet screams in frustration at me as she curses me out but I don't have time for her, I didn't want to be with her in the first place I wanted Jenni's sweet lips wrapped around- wait a second was she our mate? Hunter is purring like crazy in my head at the image of her. With that in mind I go to make my way towards the clinic but stop as I land on the landing on the floor below mine, the scent drifting towards me has me hard, following it I find myself right in front of Jenni's room. Who the hell was in her room? Without thinking I find myself stepping in her room and find Jet wrapped around Jenni, why is she here? she should be in the clinic she was on death's door.

Sniffing the air, the scent draws me to Jenni and a growl rips out of me startling Jet awake, but Jenni is still out for the count.

"What the fuck? What the hell are you playing at?" he looks quickly down at Jenni before sliding his arm from out under her.

"Mate" I snarl out watching her chest rise and fall, happy to see that she is breathing steadily now.

"Your mistaken there" my eyes snap to him "she is my mate." I feel fur spread up my arms as Hunter attempts to force a shift.

'How dare someone try to claim our mate' he growls, a whimper has me forcing him back as our attention snaps back to Jenni as she starts thrashing around in her sleep as she starts shouting out. The sound of small footsteps thunder up the stairs as we stare at her neither myself or Jet knowing what to do, he seems to snap out of it first and tries to coax her with gentle words whilst attempting to avoid her arms. Stepping towards them wanting to help my mate I feel someone approach at speed behind me and I swivel around to protect her.

"Don't touch her!" Sam shouts skidding into the room, panting from the exertion, I hear more steps coming up the stairs and realise they are lighter than an adult's and can only presume it is the other pups "When she goes into a deep sleep, she gets extreme nightmares you won't be able to pull her out and she could possibly hurt you without realising." He steps around me just as Connor and Lily and Scott come into the room.

"Jenni" Scott whimpers and momentarily the thrashing behind me stops.

"How do we get her out of it?" Jet asks sadly.

"You don't we do," Sam says, clasping her hand as he signals for the others with a simple nod. Connor goes around to the side Jet is on and clasps her other hand before Lily and Scott crawl up on the bed wrapping themselves into her side. Jenni jerks her arms and the boys land next to them, all of them becoming wrapped into her brace calming her down now that they are protectively in her arms.

"How did you do that?" I ask as I watch her breathing settle again as she calms.

"She worries about us even in her sleep so not being around her she thinks something has happened to us."

Loud steps thunder up the stairs and I watch as my dad and mum enter the room, my dad looking frazzled, I have never seen him that way before he has always been calm and collated but this is the second time that Jenni has made him like this.

"What happened?" my mum asks as she heads over to the bed with my dad.

"She had a nightmare, sorry we didn't mean to scare you," Sam tells them before we can open our mouths.

"That is okay son," Dad says affectionately and I have to do a double take. "As long as you are all okay that is all that matters." Drawing mum into his side he lifts her up bridal style and sits down next to the bed as mum curls up into his lap. My brother and sister appear out of nowhere to join in the cuddle fest along with all the other pups that Jenni protected. Everyone seems drawn to her and I start to wonder if I am only imagining the mate bond. Not wanting to leave her I settle on the chair in her room and watch over them as they all drift off to sleep. All of them settled I feel myself drifting off to allowing Hunter to force a shift and settle by the door to make sure his pack is safe whilst they rest.
