Chapter 52: Stone of resurrection

Harry took out the Ravenclaw diadem and placed it on the ground of the main back garden.

As soon as He did, the diadem started to send messages with promises of power and compulsions in order to take over his body.

Harry smiled at the poor attempts of his fragment.

'Maybe He senses what is about to happen.' Harry thought.

He took out the vial of basilisk venom, removed the lid, and carefully approached it to the Horcrux.

"Noooo"

The fragment inside the diadem pleaded.

"I have no use for you anymore."

Harry poured with care a couple of drops of the venom onto the diadem. The effect was immediate. The Horcrux started to dissolve and the pleading voice got weaker and weaker until it dissipated in a puff of smoke.

"I just killed a piece of my former self…and felt nothing. There really is no connection at all anymore. mmm, I wonder if the other fragments felt the death of their brother."

He did the same process with the Hufflepuff cup, this one did not plead that much.

"Can they have different personalities?." Harry wondered.

Then It was time for the ring.

"If this is really an authentic artifact created by Death, the basilisk venom should destroy the Horcrux and leave the stone intact…or maybe I am about to destroy a unique and irreplaceable legendary magical artifact..."

Harry could not afford to hesitate. The Horcruxes need to be destroyed, what happened last year was proof of how dangerous they are if left unchecked.

He dropped the venom on top of the ring and the metal started to melt, then he heard the scream of the dying fragment and more smoke appeared.

After the air was clear once again, Harry was relieved to see that the stone was still there, intact.

He made sure that all of the venom was cleaned before He picked it up.

"So, this is the stone of resurrection."

He studied the stone for a bit, there was not much to examine. It was a pure black gem in the shape of an octahedron and it had the Hallows symbol inside. He could not feel anything magical about the stone.

According to the tale, the stone has the power to either resurrect the dead or call the dead. The second one seems more likely.

"Let's try it then."

Harry started to think about the names of dead people He would like to talk to.

Once He thought of a name, He held the stone firm in his hand and said.

"Salazar Slytherin."

"..."

Nothing.

He gave it a bit more time.

"......"

Still nothing.

He looked at the stone, it didn't shine or made any change. He decided to try a different name.

"Myrddin Wyllt." He called the true name of the most famous wizard in the world, Merlin.

"....."

Nothing.

Not a single change in the stone or his surroundings.

"Is it damaged?."

At this point, He was very sure the stone was not fake. But why was it not working?

He then thought of a possibility. Maybe the dead has a choice on whether to answer the call or not.

If that is the case then it makes sense for Salazar and Merlin to ignore his call, after all, He has no relation to them, He has never met them and they don't know him either. Why would they come to see Him?

Then, who should He call? Someone who knew him but was now dead and would like to speak with him.

The next words came out of his mouth without thinking.

"Mother."

"..."

A cloud of green smoke came out of the stone and started to accumulate in front of him.

The green smoke started to take shape. The shape of a woman Harry was familiar with.

Harry's eyes opened wide with shock. He did not want to see this person.

"....." He stood there in silence.

"Harry!" Lily Potter exclaimed in joy at seeing her son.

Harry did not know what to say to this woman. Why did she even appear? why not Merope Gaunt? Not that He wanted to see that one either.

"Harry I'm so glad to see you alive and well, I wish I could give you a hug, but why did you call me son? Is everything alright?." Lily asked.

"I…mmm….Everything is fine." Harry wanted to avoid looking at her.

"Harry?" Lily tilted her head to one side. "What's wrong? Wh-."

She was interrupted suddenly when Harry dropped the stone and this one fell to the ground. The smoke returned inside the stone in a rush, and after a few seconds, it was as if nothing has happened.

Harry stood there for what it seems like an eternity and then He just looked up in the sky and said.

"Sorry."
