This city is separated into six sectors, the biggest of the sectors is the Neutral district - I did forget the original name but dubbed it so because this is where refugees mostly end up along with those that refuse to take part in any other sector's politics.
At the very centre of the city sits the Inquisition which, along with most of the mages, controls everything in this city along with one High Lord that has the last say in everything. The High Lord does have a lot of power but rarely makes an appearance anywhere.
As for the other sects, they each have their own Lord - they all do the same thing but it is almost competitive among the four sectors. Competing for the best fighters, the most achievements and in return, us Adventuring types earn accolades for each House in exchange for whatever we want.
The transition from the Inquisition's sect to the Neutral district is a massive change in architecture and colour coordination. Brick houses with tiled roofs, despite being Neutral it still look marginally better than what you'd imagine an area not under a Lord's control would look like.
On the other hand - it is much more of a market district where a lot of the merchants live. My mum and I live in a largely commercial area.
The Neutral sect consists of four long lines each going North, South, East, and obviously West. With high walls on each side of the long one-way street stretching wide with plenty of room for six carriages to travel through even after taking into consideration that most of the buildings are placed against the walls.
The Northern and Southern lane is mostly Commercial with the other two being Residential. Top left resides the House of the Black Sun. The top right is the House of the Pale Moon. Order of Nyctasha occupies the bottom right sect and just opposite them is the House of the Archons.
I have yet to learn what makes each of them different from one another.
Reaching the sect, the buildings here almost resemble those in the Neutral sect with grey stone and black tiled roofs. Most of them have banners decorating the outside or flags sticking out of either their windows or hoisted against the walls.
The banner has an insignia - a black sun, who would've guessed, with a red outline. Eight swirls travel away from the sun which is also red, with dark golden stripes running along the edge of the banner.
Not nearly as many guards patrol these streets. Their armour looks a lot more gothic, being much bulkier and sharper ends on their gauntlets boots and pauldrons. They wear the same form of cloak and cloth around their shoulders and waist. A tabard with the insignia of the Black Sun.
The armour is made from a darker metal - they are lucky they never have to worry about a heat stroke.
The only thing all of the sects share, that I know for certain about, is that each of them has an Adventuring guild representing each sect. I spot the one in this sect easily just by the large hoisted flags and the giant letters spelling it out for me.
I rush closer, opening the door to see a lot of the Adventurers sitting around on the same tables you'd find in our bar. Most of the tables are littered with paper and gear. Nobody turns around to look at me, too busy with their own affairs to really care what anyone else is doing.
Clearing my throat I walk up to the receptionist, "Pardon me," emerald eyes meet mine, I notice the shape of her ears, "I am here to register with the Black Sun's adventuring guild."
She lifts her gaze to meet mine, all of her features are sharp. Thin eyes and lips, bob cut emerald hair, she is definitely taller than me but as per Elven nature very skinny.
Her cold expression instantly shifts into the typical nice smile you wear when working, "Of course, were you born in the Last City?"
I shake my head, "Refugee from the Eastern Mountains."
She twists her lips to the side as she nods, "Refugee it is," then lifting her hand I quickly hand her the parchment, "You… are pretty under-levelled to be sanctioned to do anything I am afraid - however, the mystery of having these three perks could boost your True Level quite a bit."
"True level…?" furrowing my brow.
"Okay. Going to assume you are very new," she then casts a spell, "[Seer]," then showing me my own stat screen, "This is a high-level spell allowing me to read about you in detail when we calculate your worth, it is based solely on your levels. But a lot of Adventurers earn perks from both their gear and something that may have blessed them."
"In theory, increasing your stats and also increasing your True Level - we work specifically off of that."
I nod, "Easy enough to understand."
"Excellent," then with grabbing the translucent window she crushes it in her fist making it disappear, "This takes into consideration the weapons and gear you are wearing. At most, you should be able to reach the thirty mark after House of the Black Sun equips you with your standardized gear."
"They give it to me?"
She nods, "They will handle everything - the entry level for Adventuring beyond the walls is still level forty."
I feel my heart sink, "Forty…"
She lifts her hands in a panic, "Please don't be upset when you get started it is very easy to grow - we have unlimited potential to grow as your base level, which isn't defined by gear and perks, can grow infinitely. The strongest person in the city is sitting comfortably at level two-hundred and thirty at the age of thirty-eight."
So we have no ceiling - obviously meaning it takes longer to level up the more you do anything.
She then returns her gaze to behind the counter, bopping her head to the side as she then hands me over the parchment, "There you go~" she sings, "Signed and everything. All you have to do right now is head straight for the barracks - shouldn't be that hard to spot with all of the new recruits that came in today."
Then turning around she gestures, "Up the street here you will be walking towards the castle, the barracks for the soldiers and all the Adventurers are stationed right beside it - just find anyone around there if you are confused as to where to go and ask them to take you there."
"Thanks for the effort," I flash a smile that she instantly returns.
"Looking forward to seeing you around," resting her arms on the table, she lets her expression fade returning it back to the counter.
Elves… not unsurprising to see them around but I almost expected most of them to be a lot more combatively active.
