With her back to the viewer and her eyes bent downward, Eve herself appears to be sitting in regret. Is she ashamed of her nakedness? Is she resolute and certain of her decision? Her hands encircle her body as she is aware of how naked she is. The shrub to her left symbolizes the Garden of Eden, and the vibrant rug suggests the variety of life found in the ideal garden. To the right of Eve, a painting of an apple is framed as a symbol of remembrance and has a profound significance for man. Eve herself has been depicted in rough, broad strokes. Eve only sees the untamed beauty of the garden, and the bold brushstrokes serve as a representation of this. As Eve is with her lush, chubby, and fertile form, color is strong and lively. In creation myths, men punished women and blamed Eve for her seductiveness. The dominance of man over Eve, in my opinion, is her main regret.
As depicted in Genesis 3:2–6, if I were Eve, I wouldn't have struck a deal with a rebel. I wouldn't have changed anything God said if I were Eve. I wouldn't have defied God if I were Eve. I wouldn't have led Adam to sin if I were Eve. I wouldn't have compromised God's Word if I were Eve.
