Chapter 2

Diana could have done lots of things, but as a typical teen that she was, she instantly whipped out her phone and took a selfie with the building.

"Don't be too excited now...." Her father warned. "Believe me when I say it's not nearly as nice in the inside, but if you survive the first few weeks I guess you'll be alright...."

Diana wasn't even listening. She spun in a circle feeling at the top of the world. Detective school, finally!!! It was time to break some rules... uh, I mean records. She thought with a sheepish laugh. Her father, oblivious walked towards the gates where two security men that could probably stand next to military officers without feeling intimidated stood, armed to the teeth, and maybe the tongue too.

They emitted a cold aura that would make anyone think twice before starting anything out of the ordinary. The one to the left opened his palm without a word. Her father handed him his identity card as well as a... ticket? Diana wasn't so sure.

He nodded and looked at Diana, sizing her up properly. "You may proceed." He said gruffly.

The gate automatically opened. Her father looked at her.

"After you," He said with a smile.

Diana lifted her chin and dusted invisible dirt off her hoodie, then she dipped her hands in her pockets in a professional badass manner and stepped forward in her coolest gait. Before now, she never really understood the concept of 'stepping into the sunlight.' She felt good, even though she was sure that the slow motion cool effect was happening only in her head.

To think there was even a reception waiting for them. As they walked in, two young men approached from a distance. Diana would have focused more on them but she was too busy looking around. The most impressive thing here (that was obviously hard to miss) were the twin towers that glinted in the sunshine. They looked pretty imposing, and we'll... towered over the rest of the buildings.

There were two other much smaller buildings that surrounded the towers at both sides. While in the middle of the clearing was a water fountain and on it was the statue of the legendary Sherlock Holmes.

By now, the two young men had approached. One looked in his mid-forties, he was rather tall with a very animated mustache, although, his dressing was rather corporate and businesses like; a white long sleeve top hidden in a long black suit. He wore a stripped black tie and black trousers with rather elf like boots....and not to forget his silked down hair.

On the other hand, the other looked no more than eighteen. Dressed nothing like the former but rather in a beach like top (which printed upon was a huge palm tree across the horizon at sunset) and dark blue styled jeans. He wore a pair of slippers which perfected his whole "whatever...not like I care" seeming attitude. And hanging on his neck were blue headphones.

Diana couldn't help but notice how the two men contrasted one another. The former shook hands with her father while the other stood by managing to mask his bored look in a polite smile.

"I'm Dr. Maverick... Head of the freshmen. I suppose you would recognize me Mr Karen." He said officially and he shook hands with her father.

"It's been a long time Maverick, I was afraid we didn't part ways on very good terms...."

Diana zoned off. Since these two decided now was the time to have their nice little reunion, she decided that she would continue looking around.

She didn't realize that she was really not paying any attention untill her father nudged her.

"...And this is Diana." He said glaring down at her.

"Right!... what'd I miss?" She said hurriedly.

Dr. Maverick merely smiled. "It's normal for the freshmen to be all in awe once they get here. More often, their excitement causes them to loose concentration over the things that really matter, like first impressions."

"Ah...yes...." Mr Karen muttered unsure.

Diana narrowed her eyes slightly. Dr Maverick's deep British accent and the overly formal way in which he talked gave her the hint that he was one those people who loved to be obeyed and had a very good opinion of themselves. And did he always sound like he was proving a point? Almost like, I'm someone important and I know it!

She thought in distaste.

"Boy, why don't you give Miss karen here a proper tour?" He suggested in a tone that made it clear it was not a exactly choice.

Diana's first choice would have been to find things out for herself and savour the moment of surprises.

"Since I've already disgraced myself here, the least I could do is to follow this hawaiian dude about...." She thought with a sigh.

"This way," He said leading her towards the left tower

"Luckily, he doesn't have the same imposing voice as Maverick." She muttered to herself trudging along.

"Free advice," He said suddenly. "You don't wanna get on Maverick's bad side. Especially if you want to graduate."

"What! But he's only head of the freshmen right?"

"How naive!" He laughed. "Well you'll have to pass survive the first year before nursing any hopes of graduating won't you."

She frowned and was about to walk into the tower when he steered her sideways.

"Ah no, behind. Those are mere illusions."

"Say what now???" She asked trying to wrap her head around the very idea.

"I'm Lucien Seraph by the way."

"Wait...are you saying that all this is an illusion." She said befuddled. "Then, where is Glacier Towers?"

"Nice to meet you too." He continued.

"Perfect time to be random!" She sighed exasperated.

"No, that wasn't random at all." And with every bit of seriousness he said, "You'll have to let me blindfold you."

She stared at him confused. Why was Glacier Towers suddenly sounding less grand. He brought out a thick black piece of cloth, waving it at her with a shrug.

"It's not a kidnap trust me."

He tied the cloth behind her in a firm knot, so much that the only thing she could see was plain darkness no matter how she tried to see otherwise.

She didn't know what he was doing but she was certain that something interesting was going on in the background.

"Cheer up," He said finally. "It wouldn't be a spy school if it was out in the open." He took her hand and led her forward. "Hopefully, everything would start to make sense after the first few weeks."
