We are on our way to the city walls to hire a cab and return home. Jack was sitting on my left shoulder as he usually does and eating his favorite monster candies I had.
Joe gave me some advice while we were fighting the fire ants to store my grade-less Golden sword in the storage ring I got from him as keeping it in the sheath would reduce my reaction speed of taking it out in times of emergency. He gave the same advice to Kathy too for her grade-less Golden bow.
These were the storage rings that Joe made especially for Kamran, Kathy, and me. These were made using the 'steel rhino' skin which I brought back from my first mission as a freelancer for the Warrior guild. He gave us these rings yesterday when we were planning for today's hunt.
These storage rings are great as they had a storage space of 1sq km and will be enough for me to carry a lot of raw materials after the hunts. It will also reduce the weight of the things inside them drastically as it will feel like only 1% of weight after storing them inside the ring.
It also has a function 'call forth' which will materialize the things inside the ring a few inches in front of me just by thinking about what I need to come out. I know it is made up of rare and high-grade material to have this function. I did not reject it as it will make Joe and his family sad as they have started to think of me as a part of their family.
We were just a few km away from the city walls when I suddenly felt an alert in my mind and by instinct I called my sword from the storage ring and held it by my right hand. I infused it with my mana before slashing it horizontally toward my backside.
I saw a fire ant that lunged at my backside get hit and was thrown away a few meters. It screeched loudly before collapsing due to the heavy injury it got.
I went near the fire ant and poked its body again using my sword just to make sure that it is dead. It was the fire ant warrior class that is in the high-level private stage. I was surprised to see that a single slash from my sword was enough to kill it.
We immediately resumed our trekking to the city walls as the sound made by the fire ant warrior might attract other monsters to our location. Jack started flying in front of us to scout our path ahead to make sure it is safe and we are not ambushed again.
Kathy didn't want to put her crossbow back inside her storage and carried it in her hands. This gave me a perfect opportunity to check it up close.
The crossbow was shorter than any crossbow I have seen. It also had a small magazine attached to the bottom. It also had a small rotor machine attached near the handle that is connected to a small machine that is near the magazine at the bottom.
According to my calculations, the magazine can hold 10 bolts and the rotor attached to the machine will pull the string once the bolt loaded is fired. This will allow the bolt from the magazine to be loaded for the next shot.
This also cleared my question of how Kathy can fire so fast as the crossbowmen are known for accurate and armor-piercing shots, but slow reloading speed. But it was all my assumption as it was Joe who crafted this weapon.
"What are you looking at Allen?" Joe asked me after a few minutes when he noticed me looking at the crossbow without blinking. I told him my assumption and wanted to know if it was accurate.
"You are awesome kid. You just figured it out accurately by just looking at it for a few minutes". Joe appreciated me for assuming it correctly. It is the first model crossbow I have ever seen that will reload automatically.
We were about to enter the defense wall to look for a cab and go home when we saw a platoon coming out of the gates. The platoon leader noticed us and immediately a smile appeared on his face.
"How you do Miles?" asked Joe the platoon leader. "All good, how is Kamran doing? And how are you kid, it's been a while since we have seen each other" he said looking at us.
At first, I thought he was talking to Kathy as he might be their friend, but Joe and Miles looked at me. I was a bit confused, but Joe was there to help me.
"I hope you remember my son's squad leader at the time you saved his life" Joe said to me smiling. I still couldn't remember him as that squad's leader was Michael. And he is one of the people who advised me to change my carrier to warrior instead of Bowman.
"I wasn't squad leader at that time Joe, I was second in command when we met him" Miles said smiling at me. He looked at me in disbelief and asked "Allen, I heard you are a freelancer at Warrior Guild now. Good job kid."
I was stunned to realize that he knows about it as I'm not wearing the badge that was given to me by Hoger. Before I could say something he left us stating that he is on patrol duty and has to leave.
I looked at the platoon moving away from us to the western side of the city. I realized something is happening in that part as only a squad of 15 soldiers will be sent for patrolling and not an entire platoon consisting of more than 50 soldiers.
I didn't voice out this thought as Joe would have already thought about this and Kathy is not a soldier to know about this. I didn't want to worry her by voicing out my thought.
We moved into the city wall and boarded a cab that was parked near the gate. It was the same cab we came in the morning. He smiled at us and made sure none of us are injured before allowing us to board the cab to go home.
