The Military governor of Chengdu City, the capital of Sichuan province was currently in a meeting with several members of upper government echelon and military commanders. They had received the order to open fire on infected showing symptoms and refuse entry to all those that show up at the border city.
The city was large in both financial prowess and population, being the capital of a prosperous province in the southwest of China. It also now acted as a border between the recognised Central new government and the wilderness of provinces left behind during the invasion.
The government measures rose complaints regarding civil rights and human decency; however, the governor had no choice, this was an order directly from the president of China.
"Commanders, warn refugees with gunfire before killing; let's avoid as many deaths as we can" Governor Li Yao sadly sighed.
"Governor, we have received reports of several large families fleeing the city, and a mass migration of civilians following them. This was after the sighting of an infected was reported within city walls. If they move to inland border cities, they could infect more areas, shouldn't we stop them?" A commander suggested, the other commanders and leaders agreeing with a nod.
"We have no authority to stop those that wish to leave from leaving. We are not like those imperial scums who massacre and leave for dead whole regions and provinces, in the name of stalling for time. We must hold on for as long as possible"
Suddenly, a lieutenant barged into the meeting room, gaining the ire and narrowed eyes of the commanders. Sweat dripped from his forehead as he interrupted these big shots.
"Governor, commanders, we have an emergency" he stated his reason for entry
"Emergency? Sigh, what now? Another plague case?"
"No, Sir, a giant orc tribe leader around fifteen feet in height has shown up at the borders, he claims to be under the command of a martial artist and his disciple"
The big shots in the room all had lit up eyes, "A summoner class? I thought they were just a myth!" One commander yelled out.
The governor stood up and walked over to the lieutenant. "Take us there, kid - now!"
——
Tang Sheng and Mia had been waiting at the border walls of Chengdu City for over thirty minutes. The guards constantly had rifles pointed towards the tribe leader, named Zeus by Mia, and could now communicate full sentences with relative ease.
Just as Tang Sheng was starting to get impatient, a row of military personnel decked with medals and high statuses reached the border walls. Standing on the walls was the governor and commanders of Chengdu City.
Seeing the giant in person, looming over even the tall border walls made to defend against orcs, they were in shock. Even more so, the almost immortal-looking man and his deep red eyes, unlike anything the governor had ever seen before.
He woke up from his faze and stared plainly, "State your name, where you came from and your class" leaving no room for discussion.
Tang Sheng furrowed his brows. He had no intention to reveal his or his disciple's class, as this was private and vital to ensure an enemy knows as little as possible.
"I will not reveal my class, nor my disciples. However, I can tell you it's a summoner-type class- as you can see" he pointed at the giant tribe leader.
The commanders were not having it. One of them spoke up angrily, "Listen yo—" he was interrupted by the screaming of civilians just tens of feet away. All guards and commanders, including the governor looked towards that direction.
They saw multiple civilians with noses bleeding, standing in shock unbelieving that they somehow contracted the plague. Guards raised their guns towards them and prepared to fire, before their noses also bled profusely.
The commanders faces turned grim, they understood that the city was likely lost. Just one case inside the walls could spread to hundreds and no one would know for a time, depending on the individual's immunity rate.
Others began to bleed from their noses and more screams were heard throughout the city. Three of the commanders also started bleeding, the others backing up on avoidance.
"Fuck.." the governor cursed. He looked open his city that had turned for the worse within a mere few minutes and resigned himself to fate.
Turning around to Tang Sheng, he said, "You can come in, it's not like we're afraid you'll give us the plague, it's likely the other way around now. But you should turn around and leave this place, even inland central China won't be safe soon"
Tang Sheng witnessed the mess the city had just became, saying "That's fine, city governor, if I can be of use in the government with my summoning class, I will naturally risk the plague" he stoically spoke, with Mia eyeing him from his side. 'Risk the Plague? What can it do to you? And your class is definitely not a summoners!' She thought.
As they walked through the city, Newborn chaos began all around them. They had seen this too many times to count over the past few months. Death, destruction and inhumane acts of violence were commonplace in this new world, unrecognisable from the last.
——
New government offices, office of the president, Shanghai.
Within a secured room with awakened guards, all level 6 and the leader level 7, was the president of China and her advisor, Tao Jue. They had recieved reports of western border cities collapsing due to the plague much quicker than expected, it seemed like this pestilence could be spread merely by air, but they still were not certain. Learning from the imperial faction, they had gathered a large group of over two thousand healing and pestilence type unique class holders, and ordered them to study various methods of healing the infected with scientists as assistants. Unfortunately, another few months would be required at the minimum for any hope of a cure, and they didn't have that time.
Tao Jue Spoke up, stopping the eiriee silence in the room, "For now, we can only delay the inevitable. I'm afraid we must contact the imperial dynasty and cooperate to work on a cure"
The president rebuked almost instantly; "But Master, those plague doctors are psychopaths! They slaughter wantonly and commit inhumane torture on innocents with the plague, under the cover of 'experimentation'! I would rather die than ally with those thugs!" She bellowed
"Then what would you have me do child, allow the population to die? Those that have immunity to this plague are less than 0.2% of our civilians, either we cooperate and speed up our slow progress, or we perish together." He strictly warned.
The president was in a dilemma, she didn't want to ally with such people but had little choice. With a sigh, she agreed with her master and advisors proposal. "Contact the Qing Emperor, we will ally only in order to stop this plague."
