"Amaya," I heard someone call my name; I looked around and saw that I was standing in the forest. "Amaya," the voice echoed through the trees. I took a few steps forward trying to find the source of the voice. As I wandered around, I found myself in a clearing, a large tree stump standing in the center. "Who are you? What do you want?" I called out looking around for where the voice was coming from, my eyes landed on the tree stump and saw a glowing light appear. I watched as streams of energy surged out from the light, I tried to dodge it, but it hit me in the chest, I felt a sharp pain and then the stream returned to the light. "A wild witch. But she's not whole," I heard the voice said. "You need to break free Amaya. Don't be afraid of your power," another voice said. "A darkness is coming; you will need your strength" the voice continued.
"Amaya!" I heard a familiar voice calling me, pulling me out of my dream. My eyes fluttered open, and I saw Liam standing over me, a pillow in his hand. "Good, you're finally awake; I was about to get violent," he said, putting the pillow down.
"Why are you waking me up?" I whined, sitting up. "I'm hungry. And don't you have the PSAT today?" he said as he sat down at my desk.
"No, actually, I took mine over the summer. I don't really test well around others, so I got a protector and took it alone," I explained, pulling myself out of bed and walking over to my closet. "But I am supposed to go hang out with Lydia today. Since we're the only ones who don't have the PSATs," I continued. "Oh," Liam said, surprised. "Yeah, Lydia took hers freshman year," I explained.
Then I looked at Liam and realized he was dressed in his own clothes. "You went home?" I asked, and he nodded. "I ran over early this morning to get fresh clothes," he explained.
"But you came back," I said as I walked into my bathroom with my own fresh clothes. "I just figured with the Dead Pool and the killings getting worse. We should stick together," I heard Liam say. "Aw, are you trying to protect me?" I smirked, poking my head out of the bathroom. I wasn't sure what Liam said after that because I shut the door and turned on the shower.
Once I had finished taking my nice hot shower I quickly threw on my clothes. I checked myself in the mirror; I was wearing a pair of jeans and a black long-sleeved shirt; I let out a sigh as I grabbed my flannel off the counter and walked out of the bathroom. "Come on I'll make you some breakfast," I said as I looked over at Liam spinning in my desk chair. "Finally," he cheered as he followed me downstairs.
I made a quick breakfast of toast and eggs, but Liam seemed to enjoy it. As we ate, we talked about our families and other stuff, Liam told be about his IED, and I tried to give him some advice on controlling his emotions, given that I had to learn from a young age to control my emotions or my powers who go crazy. Finally, when we finished, I realized that I should probably head over to Lydia's since it was already noon. "Since I'm going to see Lydia, do you just want me to take you home?" I asked Liam. "Yeah, I guess," Liam replied as I headed to the garage.
Liam and I hopped on my bike, and I drove him to his house. And once I dropped Liam off then headed toward Lydia's lake house, where she told me to meet her.
Once I was there, I knocked on the door, but she didn't answer. I made my way inside; I had a feeling I knew where she would be. I went up to the white room, and there she was, standing in the middle of the floor. "Lydia?" I asked, and she gasped and turned around. "Amaya, you scared me!" she exclaimed. "Sorry you didn't answer when I knocked. You said you wanted to hang out, but I have a feeling that's not the only reason you called me," I responded. "I just really needed someone to be here with me. And you're the only one I could think of," Lydia admitted.
"I see," I said with a smile. "What's this?" I asked, walking over to the box sitting on the floor. "It's Meredith's things. She didn't have any family, so I asked if I could take them," Lydia replied. I sat down and looked through the things in the box. "Hey, take a look at this photo," Lydia said, sitting next to me and holding up a picture; I inspected the photo and then looked around the room. The room in the background of the image looked exactly like the one we were in. "That photo was taken here," I muttered. "That's exactly what I thought. But that means that Meredith knew my grandmother," Lydia explained.
I looked at her for a moment, thinking about what that could mean, "Lydia, the power of a witch, is passed down. If you're a witch, it's likely that your mother or grandmother was as well," I explained, and Lydia nodded. "What if it's the same for Banshees? What if the reason your grandmother knew Meredith is because she knew what she was, because she was the same thing," I continued. I watched Lydia's face as she processed what I said. She just sat there for a moment, unsure what to say, but then my phone rang.
"Hello?" I said, picking up my phone. "Amaya, something's going on at the school," I heard my mom's voice over the phone. "What do you mean?" I asked. "I don't know, but the CDC is there. I just wanted to make sure you're okay," she said. "Yeah, mom, I'm at Lydia's," I replied. "Okay, that's good; I just wanted to make sure," I heard my mom say, relief in her voice. "Okay, thanks for checking in. Love you," I said as they hung up.
I looked over at Lydia, who was looking at me curiously. "Something's going on at the school. The CDC is there," I told her, and she looked at me for a moment, and then her eyes grew wide. "My mom is there!" she cried as she hopped up. "So are Scott, Stiles, Malia, and Kira," I added, realizing that they were taking their PSATs at the school today.
"We need to get to the school," I muttered before standing up and rushing to the door. Lydia followed after me as we raced down to her car, and hopped in.
When we reached the school, there was a small crowd gathered in front of the school, trying to see what was going on. Lydia and I pushed through, trying to find the Sheriff. "Sheriff!" Lydia and I yelled as we reached the front of the crowd and tried to make it past the barricade, but a deputy tried to hold us back. "Whoa, hey! I know these girls let them in," the Sheriff ordered, walking towards us. Lydia and I quickly ran past the deputy and over to him.
"My mom's in there. What's happening?" Lydia asked quieter. "We're working on it," the Sheriff said, looking at both of us before pulling us further away from the crowds. "Lydia, as all this is very new to me, and I don't know how it works, I still have to ask. Do you have any kind of indication? Any kind of feeling about this? Is someone in there going to die?" he asked. "Yes. And it's not just a feeling," Lydia answered, and the Sheriff looked at me. "What about you? Do you see anything? Stiles said you could see things others can't," he asked me.
My gaze drifted to the school, and my eyes began to glow silver. I could see the aura of the people in the building, they seemed normal. But when I found Scott, Kira, and Malia's aura I could tell something was very wrong, it looked like they were dying. "It's not good," I said, looking back at him as my eyes went back to normal.
Lydia and I just stood there and watched. A feeling of dread began to fill my head. Suddenly, people started coming out of the school, apparently all of the human students had begun to recover and were quickly returning to normal. Lydia and I followed the Sheriff as he ran into the school to look for Stiles. I watched as Lydia ran to her mother; I couldn't help but smile. I looked around for the others, but they were nowhere to be seem. They were in the basement when I had looked before, so I ran down the stairs to the basement. and saw them walking out of what looked like a secret vault.
"Amaya," Scott called, and saw them walking out of what looked like a secret vault. "You guys are okay," I said with a sigh of relief, then all of a sudden, I felt arms wrapping around me. It was Kira; I laughed as I hugged her back and Scott joined the hug. "I'm so glad you're okay," I muttered, my eyes wandered over as Malia walked past us, she looked angry, and sad. I wondered what happened.
After a moment Kira let go and helped Scott up the stairs leaving Stiles and me in the basement alone. "What happened?" I asked, and he just looked at me; I saw the leftover blood on his face, and I could tell he was exhausted. "Come on, let's go find your dad," I whispered as I walked over to him and took his arm. We made our way upstairs and outside. I watched as the Sheriff ran over to us and engulfed Stiles in a hug. After a moment, he let go and looked over at me. "Thank you," he said, patting me on the shoulder. I smiled and shook my head, "I really didn't do anything," I replied.
After that, Stiles offered to drive me back to Lydia's, so I could pick up my bike. On the way, he finally opened up and explained what had happened, apparently the proctor for the PSATs was an assassin, and he had created a virus that could kill werewolves and Kitsunes.
"He had a gun to my head. I thought he was going to kill me. And then Scott's dad just appeared and shot him," Stiles said this far away look in his eyes. "I can't believe the test proctor was an assassin," I whispered shaking my head. "Yeah, it was kind of crazy," Stiles replied. "What about Malia?" I asked remembering how she was acting when I came down to the basement. "She, umm," Stiles began but then stopped, I could tell he was about to cry. "She saw the last part of the list. And now she knows she's Peters daughter and that I was keeping it from her," Stiles stuttered. "She was so mad at me, Amaya," I stayed quiet for a moment trying to decide what to say. "You know she cares about you. And even though, knowing you kept this from her, really hurt her. She will come around," I said trying to comfort him.
"I'm just tired of losing," Stiles said as we pulled up to Lydia's house. "Me too," I said softly. "Are you sure you're, okay?" I asked, looking over at the exhausted boy next to me. "Yeah. I'll text you tomorrow; maybe we can come up with something to stop this," Stiles said as I got out of the car. "Anything you need, I'll be there," I said, then I closed the door and walked over to my bike.
