A New Life

The woman that held me had long, silky black hair and eyes of violet and gold.

"We know you can understand us, how could we not possibly see a soul as large as yours entering this body?

The woman smiled at me kindly as she ran her finders through my hair.

"But your father and I don't care. You are still our child. Though we will never get the chance to know you or your siblings, we still love you more then you will ever understand.

Tears fell from her glass-like eyes.

"Your father and I are going to have to entrust your siblings to you. I am a thousand-faced feline, that should be enough for you to understand everything. You must take care of Alex and Ava, ok? We love you Aiden. Your father and I are so sorry to do this to you."

A man with fiery red hair and 3 eyes just as bright as his hair came running up to the woman. "Natalia, we must leave or else they will find the kids!"

The woman, Natalia, nodded her head in determination.

She quickly turned to me and said "I've already made a deal with the spirit of this planet which will only come into effect upon the death of both your father and I. If you never receive the contract, that is how you know at least one of us is alive. But if you do… please tell your siblings that we loved them, and that we never wanted to leave."

She set me down next to two black eggs and mana fell from her fingertips, surrounding the eggs and I in gold.

"Goodbye now, Aiden. We love you, never forget that." The man with red hair said as he helped the woman up.

"Let's lead them to the next galaxy over. We can leave them false evidence that we left the kids there, Maxwell."

The red haired man quickly agreed with her, and without wasting another second, the figures flew away with a speed that Aiden's eyes could not follow.

"Gaia, we're home!" Alex shouted as he ran through the living room where a woman with long brown hair that reached the floor and pretty green eyes was making dinner.

Gaia was always smiling no matter the situation. She was always ready to forgive somebody with a smile, but once she was angry… you could only despair that her smile remained.

The lady who appeared no older then 30 was the type that were best to hug, always smelling like freshly baked bread, arms warm and welcoming.

Gaia opened her arms wide as the young boy with black hair jumped and ran right into her at a speed that no normal adult, let alone child, should ever achieve.

Gaia spun the 5 years old in her arms and squeezed him tight. "Hello child, how was the first day of school? Did you have fun? Did you make any new friends?"

Alex took a deep breath in preparation for the large fountain of incomprehensible words that would soon tumble out of his mouth.

Gaia nodded kindly and commented here and there as the boy talked, pulling a muffin tin out of the oven with her bare hands at the same time.

A little girl walked into the kitchen next, gasping as soon as she saw the freshly made muffins.

The girl had black hair tied into two braids that reached the middle of her back held together with small white ribbons. She had two different colored eyes, one of gold and the other violet.

She walked up to Gaia and stood on her toes, placing her hands in front of her, silently begging for a muffin with her eyes.

Gaia rubbed the little thing's head and handed her a piping-hot muffin with a smile. "Anything for you, Ava."

Ava giggled in a small voice and scurried to the kitchen table, already having bitten into the treat in the process of climbing into the chair.

While Alex was still blabbering about, Aiden walked into the kitchen and began to inform Gaia about their day that one could actually understand, rather then in the twisted way that Alex was speaking in.

"The day was rather simple, this is only kindergarten after all. There were just some introductions and then we played games for the rest of the day.

Aiden placed his backpack in the corner of the kitchen before walking over the the table and sitting across from his sister and next to his brother.

"But that is to be expected, as it is only the first day of kindergarten. Even if this is an elite school, everybody in the class are still children."

Gaia gave an amused look as she slid a muffin on a plate over to Aiden, leaning her face on her fist "Is that so?"

Aiden ignored her and began to eat.

Soon, the six-seated dining table was filled with nothing but the sounds of chewing, bringing a certain type of peace to the home.

When they had finished, Aiden went and grabbed a folder from each of their backpacks and placed them on the table before Gaia.

The boy gave her a small, smug smile as he said "we have a number of things for you to sign, Gaia. The teacher said it needed to be done by tonight. We have to turn it in tomorrow."

Without another word, Aiden turned and went into the living room and sat at a desk. He tapped a circular button on the right corner or the surface, and a holographic screen and keyboard appeared before him.

After logging into his account, he clicked on a folder labeled 'World 3 Design" and began typing away, the keyboard never making a sound.

Alex on the other hand was building a model airplane three times the size of himself in the backyard.

Gaia smiled to herself, comparing the boys in her mind. They couldn't be more different, but at the same time, they couldn't be more the same.

Looking at the little girl who was only now finish up her snack, she leaned in closer to her and said "there is a survey I have to fill out about you guys. Do you want to help me?"

Ava's eyes widened and she gasped quietly before nodding her hand rapidly in agreement, hastily scurrying over to her guardian. Gaia pulled her up and sat her on her lap, hugging her with one hand and grabbing a pen with the other.

"Alright Ava, the first one is on Aiden. It wants to know his favorite color."

Ava pointed at her left eye.

Gaia patted her head and wrote down 'gold' in the blank space.

"Favorite board game?"

Ava thought for a moment before writing the words 'Candy Realm' in the air with silver mana.

"Alright," Gaia said with a giggle, knowing full well that the only reason why Aiden ever played that game was because it was his sister's favorite.

"Favorite food?" A picture of a chocolate cakes and cinnamon rolls appeared in the air.

It was the fifth day of school when Gaia got a phone call home.

"Is this the guardian of the Void family?" Said an impatient female voice.

"Ah yes, this is she speaking. How can I help you?"

"Yes well this is Mrs. Leston from the main office of Celestial Elementary School calling about a fight that has taken place which involved three of your children, Aiden, Alex and Ava Void. Please come to the school as soon as possible, the headmaster will be speaking to you." The phone was hung up without another word.

Gaia held her head in her hands, sighing heavily. "I just knew this would happen eventually…"
