Casting with a ring

*Narrator pov*

"Shall we begin?" Morpheus asked with a smirk

Sirius stood confidently, "I'm ready," he said almost to himself more than Morpheus

Morpheus nodded, "Since this is a demonstration I will attack first using common spells you all know," he said while his wrist was in movement

Morpheus's right wrist moved clockwise like he was gathering the wind and then suddenly he thrust his hand outward causing a red light to shoot from his ring, "Stupefy," the professor said as Sirius was surprised by the speed and direction of the attack dodged out of the way

Sirius stumbled causing Morpheus to chuckle, "Gather your bearings. Remember when facing an opponent using a focus you are not used to, pay attention to two things the spell and the hand," he instructed

Morpheus seeing he needed to clarify added, "Since I am using a ring don't pay attention to the ring but react to the spell that is being cast and the hand movement before the spell. When you get the hang of things you will unconsciously pick up the small details," with that the professor flicked his wrist sharply his hand in the form of a fist suddenly he flicked down and spread his fingers like he was rolling dice

"Expelliarmus," Morpheus intoned causing a reddish-orange spell to shoot toward Sirius

Sirius this time was ready, "Repello!" he rebutted causing the spell to repel back at Morpheus

Morpheus sidestepped the spell and heard the young Gryffindor exclaim, "This is easy," the professor shook his head a mischievous look forming on his face

Morpheus began to move faster, his arm raising and lowering, his wrist flicking, and his fingers spreading and pointing sometimes crossing. The room was filled with his calm voice saying every spell and Sirius trying to defend against the onslaught.

Sirius was soon on the ground in defeat his breathing ragged and a layer of sweat forming on his brow.

"Ha, ha," he gasped for breath, "Couldn't have gone a little easier?" he asked in irritation, "This is supposed to be a lesson right, and not a beatdown?" he mumbled angrily

Morpheus laughed which annoyed Sirius even more, "You did well despite your thoughts, though there is something you messed up on and maybe one of our audience members can figure it out?" he asked the crowd

Lily raised her hand along with Frank Longbottom and Pandora.

"Frank?" Morpheus called out

"Uhh Sirius focused all on defense and didn't try to counter to change the pace," he suggested

"That is one thing but not what I'm looking for," Morpheus replied before pointing at Lily

She took a moment to evaluate her answer before saying, "He paid too much attention to your ring?" she said in a hopeful tone

Morpheus nodded, "And why is that bad Pandora?" he called out for her to answer

She seemed ready and quickly replied, "His head and eyes visibly followed your wide arm and hand movements hindering his ability to respond to your spells in time, which also overwhelmed him,"

Morpheus grinned, "Correct,"

Sirius did not grin, "But you said to watch your movements!" he said feeling wronged

Morpheus shook his head, "When you duel someone using a wand you react to the spells but also pay attention to the movement trying to predict the spell head of time no? This is the same situation you saw me making wide movements but didn't counter-attack with a spell of your own when my body was wide open. Your head was tracking my ring too closely," he instructed making the movements once more

"You should know where my ring hand is yes, but you should also be aware of everything else. When I say watch my wrist I mean to pay attention when I am about to use a spell and then adjust from there," He added

Then Morpheus took out his wand and held it in his opposite hand, "Watch me do the motions of the same spell with both foci," he performed them both and the students watched intently

"As you may have noticed with the ring spell whatever finger I'm using the ring with is what I'm pointing forward kind of like a wand. This isn't a cardinal rule but it is like this for most spells, so remember many of the spells using the ring are just with the wrist and fingers the arm movements are to draw your attention. The ring excels in unpredictability and adaptiveness. The wand is great for all situations if you focus on your target and stay level headed not falling for distractions I assure you there is nothing to fear," he instructed

"Now, who is next?" he asked the group

Everyone's hand raised once again attaining a laugh from the professors.

The rest of the class consisted of Morpheus mock dueling with the students. Even though only a few of them will be dueling against the Japanese magical school he made sure to include those not participating. Even dueling the second-years to get early practice in for them.

Interestingly enough some of the second-years did better than the third-years and up as they weren't concerned with predicting their opponent and just threw whatever they could at Morpheus.

As the night died down Abara and Yowie closed the class with some student Mock duels and Morpheus left.

*Morpheus pov*

Leaving the club room I headed back to my room, it was nice teaching the kids about the different foci. It was also nice using a ring again, it felt different than a wand it was as if your magic was traveling through your whole arm.

I'm not sure if my lesson helped any but the students should be more aware of Ring foci now so that's a plus for them.

Now, the midterms are happening right after the duel so I will have to prepare for that. Perhaps I will have a lesson focused on helping with the mid-term. I feel like I need to revisit some of the concepts I already discussed to give them a refresher.

Teaching divination is rather hard as not all students will be able to receive a true vision of the future or past depending on where they are looking. Which makes the class even harder to grade though I do grade mostly by effort.

By the time the students graduate I want them to at least be confident in their resonated art and some minor divination practices.

Once I entered my room I began to make notes on my syllabus and then I headed to the mirror. I might as well see what Tom is up to.

Scrying through people's vision is usually extremely difficult for a wizard but, with my eyes, it is rather easy.

After viewing through some of his follower's eyes I laid down on my bed and closed my eyes reliving the visions.

Tom is slowly building alliances while killing 'half-bloods' here and there. It seems he wants to appear like a giant wave next time.

Too bad I'm building some walls.
