It was a perfect shot, slicing through the air as it whizzed past Kazuichi, barely brushing his cheek. The kunai knife then planted itself on the head of the infected.
Swish~ Swish~
Another pair of kunai knives whizzed past before Kazuichi could turn around. By the time his head had done a complete turn so he could get a good look at the wielder of the kunai's, two more infected had fallen victim to the projectile.
"Watch out!" Kazuichi heard the man scream at him. He didn't even feel the need to turn around to notice that there was another infected behind him. Without looking back, Kazuichi turned around and extended his hand, gripping the infected by the throat and decapitating him instantly. Somehow, the sudden appearance of the kunai thrower made him want to show off as well. It was already too late when he realized that he had just done something inhuman.
The man wielding the kunai knives was approximately the same age as Kazuichi. He had brown hair and brown eyes, a typical average guy with an average stature and presence. He was as dull as dirt, but his sophisticated control and aim of the kunai knives were pretty impressive.
"Whoa~!!! What was that? That's the first time I've seen that move! How did you do it?!" Before Kazuichi could return to his senses, the man was already in front of him, grabbing him by the hand and shaking it in greeting. He was smiling, eyes glistening as he looked up at Kazuichi as if he was some superhero.
"Leader, don't bother him. We have zombies to eliminate from this present life." A young lady walked up to them, wielding a bat in hand and a golf club strapped on her back. She was eating bubble gum, blowing on it as she walked towards Kazuichi. "The name's Rima. You are?"
"Kazuichi. T-Takemi Kazuichi." Kazemi responded, getting the urge to lie about his name, but he changed his mind at the last second.
"We're from the Scarlet Blood Stronghold, sent here thanks to the early heads up of the head of the shelter. It would've been bad if we weren't informed about it. " The leader continued, throwing another kunai knife which squarely hit the target in the middle of its forehead. His aim was nothing to scoff at, and he was the most efficient fighter Kazuichi had ever met when dealing with the infected.
The head of the shelter, apparently a man in his early thirties, had no combat experience and couldn't protect the shelter even after the breach. In fact, most shelter heads were like that, merely monitoring things and overlooking a shelter. However, in the event of a breach, they couldn't do anything.
"Oh, and you can call me Yamishiro. That's my name." The leader said, extending his hand towards Kazuichi before all of them dispersed. There were still dozens of infected that needed to be disposed of. Now that the due introductions were done, they could finally focus on the task at hand— eliminating the infected and saving the shelter before it fell into ruin.
Kazuichi noticed that there was a third person on the team, but he had yet to speak. While exchanging names, he nodded his head at Kazuichi without saying anything. At first, Kazuichi thought he couldn't talk due to a disorder, but after hearing him speak one word of confirmation, he realized he was just too shy to talk.
There was still chaos all over the place. However, it had died down a little since most of the uninfected had already evacuated to the other side of the shelter, thanks to Tris and the others who aided in their evacuation. Nevertheless, their absence didn't mean that the infected had become inactive.
With the last remnants of the horde settling in, the elite team from the Scarlet Blood Stronghold, along with the shelter's line of defense, continued their subjugation. Kazuichi, too had decided to help in his own way. However, this time he was mindful enough not to display the true extent of his abilities.
Quite frankly, it would've been easy for Kazuichi to save the shelter from the pesky invaders. But if he were to stand out, then there's a good chance that the people would find out he was infected. No matter what, he had to hide that fact; otherwise, he'd get shunned before he could even receive an audience from the head of the Scarlet Blood Stronghold.
From the corner of his eyes, Kazuichi watched as the three elite team members fought. Yamishiro was adept in his kunai knives as well as basic martial arts. Then there was Rima, who had a knack for using bats and golf clubs. Her hitting power was pretty formidable, so much so that Kazuichi feared for his life every time she beat an infected to death with it— and that's saying a lot, considering that the infected were already somewhat dead, to begin with.
As for the third person, he was nothing special. He simply fought like a regular human. Then again, Kazuichi could tell that there was more than meets the eye regarding the man's identity. He wouldn't be considered part of the elite group if he wasn't, after all.
While the chaos between the spearmen and infantry was going on, the 'subjugation party' from the Scarlet Blood Stronghold started getting rid of the infected. The rate of how fast the virus spread had been significantly reduced. And it was thanks to them preventing the bites before they even happened.
"Kazuichi, Rima, can you seal the hole by the wired fence? We have to stop their advance to save this shelter." Yamishiro ordered. He had his hands full dealing with the spearmen and the infantry, which had been infected. The third person in their group was also occupied with checking the survivors to see whether they were bitten or not.
"Sure, we'll get it done, leader." Rima calmly responded before turning her head towards Kazuichi. "You're Kazuichi, right? Follow me. Make sure these bastards don't sink their teeth into your skin. One bite, and its game over."
"I know." Kazuichi mumbled under his breath, glancing at Tris from afar before mouthing out the words 'be safe.'
Meanwhile, Rima was beginning to wonder why their leader went out of his way to give them the order. Usually, he'd get it done if he could do it. And dealing with a horde of infected should've been a walk in the park for him. 'Is he all right?' Rima asked herself since their leader was acting uncharacteristically.
Unbeknownst to everyone, Yamishiro was already at his limit. It was one small mistake— overlooking one infected and thinking that it was already dead— only to find out that it wasn't, and it sank his teeth onto Yamishiro's ankle.
