_ The enemy we are after

She hadn't stood for a few seconds before the door got opened. It was the fat friend of Asher who came to get the door.

Also, he looked quite smitten by her presence. " Hey" he smiled at her, leaning on the poor front door.

Was that flirt she heard in his tone?

Aissh!

If only he knew how annoying she found the big smile on his face, he'd never smile at her again. " Hi" she forced herself to give a smile.

" Hi," he said to her yet again, still grinning from ear to ear.

For the love of originals, would this fatso invite her in already?

" Is Asher in?" she had to say, the false smile still on her face as she rubbed her palms together.

Sheepishly, the boy leaned in farther into the door. " Yes," his eyebrows twitched twice before the reply came out of his mouth.

Oh, please!

Thankfully, a voice came from inside. It was Asher.

" Who's there Duncan?!"

As though that was all the reminder he needed for his senses to return. " Do you want to come in?" the fat boy asked her.

" Ah... Yes!" she nodded vigorously.

And like a translator, " It's the new burnt haven girl. The pretty one we talked about!" he relayed to Asher, his voice higher than the low flirty one he was using in speaking to her.

" Rune?" she heard Asher's rhetorical question as he wheeled himself to the doorstep.

Finally, she could see him now. His face was a contrast to the pleased look on his friend's. He was looking at her as though she was a criminal or an intruder.

" What do you want?" he blurted out.

His friend turned to him. "Come on, be nice LSR." he scolded.

Good to see he could be something else apart from irritatingly glaring at her with lust.

Then to her, " Come in" he invited her in before Asher could protest.

If the situation was on her side and wasn't what it was, she wouldn't have accepted the boy's invitation. She would have waited for Asher to ask her in since his friend was but a guest and not the real owner of the house.

Speaking of owners, doesn't Asher have parents and siblings?

" Thank you" she smiled, stepping into the house while Asher looked too stupefied to speak.

She reminded herself she need rely on etiquette now for she was doing this to help save her brother quickly.

It was kind of funny to regard Fender as her brother.

As she walked in taking in the view of the average and nicely furnished house, the fat friend of Asher's shut the door behind her.

She walked in further, her eyes still searching.

The sitting room was a semi-sized space with the kitchen situated between the passage that led to the door- a room maybe and the sitting room.

If one turned, one could see the kitchen clearly.

" What do you want?" came Asher's stern voice.

She knew he was merely mad that's all. The boy could barely maintain a harsh outlet. " To say hi and say sorry" she stood in front of a couch, turned her face to him who was behind the couch, and explained.

" Say sorry for what?" he almost hollered at her but his fat friend cuts in.

" Have your seat pretty" he had his hands spread out to motion for her to take a seat on the couch.

Again, to LSR, " What's up with the tone man?" he shrugged, his heavy hands dropping in a slam beside him.

With a look that could kill, " Stay out of this Duncan" Asher spat.

Duncan, she forgot his name.

" Say sorry for framing me?" Asher asked her not bothering if she was standing or not.

Why the sheer hostility?

She wanted to talk but her object of coming to the house appeared.

" Who's she?" the small frame girl with an equally small fine face blurted.

Arrgh- Has everyone in Asher's home apart from Duncan planned on being disrespectful towards her?

Duncan began to introduce her to the girl. " Kate meet..." he couldn't finish.

She wasn't the only one who forgot his name. He forgot hers too- fair enough.

" Rune" she provided.

He gave her a thumbs-up and then finished his introduction. " Kate, meet Rune. Rune, Kate"

If the situation was not what it was, Rune had no use for meeting Kate but now, she outstretched her hand in the initiation of a handshake. " Hello Kate" she smiled.

The girl looked hesitant at first but later took the hand. " Hi. Are you Duncan's girlfriend?" she asked with her eyes dimmed and darting from Rune to Duncan and from Duncan to Rune.

" No!" she answered sharply then realized it came out sharper than she intended. She laughed sheepishly to dismiss the harshness of her tone.

Duncan seemed to not take offense in it though, his cheeks were pink from blushing.

Oh, please!

" Is she your..." she turned to Asher, about to ask if Kate was his sister but he did not give her a chance to finish.

"No, never! She is not my girlfriend!"

Kate went firing back at him. " Well, I'd be Santa before I become your girlfriend!"

Ohh, Rune was clueless as to how to act. She had been misunderstood.

" No, no!" she had to laugh. She was used to brawls like this anyway.

Her family was the gods of brawls. " I meant to ask if she was your sister" she corrected.

" No sister of mine is such a loose mouth!" Asher seemed relentless in his bid to disregard the girl.

True, Kate was a loose mouth, Rune decided.

" Hell- like you have a sister!" she rolled her eyes.

So, Asher had no sister.

" Yes, I have no sister. Thank you" Asher affirmed. "Little Kate is but my help"

" Your help?" Kate clamored like Asher's words sounded unbelievable in her ears.

" Little?!" Duncan hollered, eyes widened.

What was his deal in their argument? Or was Kate Duncan's sister then?

Rune nodded as though she was getting a hang of the situation when she actually wasn't. " Oh, she is your sister?" she asked Duncan.

Kate saw her as the opponent now for tagging her with people she didn't want to be associated with. " No girl! I am nobody's sister. I am a hired babysitter who works for Ink. Ink assigned me to this house to take care of the crippled undeserving boy because they had used it for his valuable elder brother for a while. Summary, Zakariah won't be home for a while and I was assigned to come to take care of his ass" she clamored, imitating a spanking demonstration as if she was about to spank someone's ass.

Someone who wasn't them.

By Jones- the girl was indeed too much to be handled.

"But you told me it was Zakariah who hired you" Asher bellowed. " And whose ass are you taking care of?"

" None man, she only takes care of the house" Duncan chided.

True- Asher seemed like the type who wouldn't let people take care of him.

So, the girl had two stories for her reason for being in LSR's house and was not related to him in any way. Another reason to suspect her even more.

Why hasn't the brother arrived since Kate has been around to nullify or affirm her claims?

What if the brother has been harmed by her if she was truly the chameleon?

That was not her business though. She really needed to know more to know if this was the enemy they were after.
