Chapter 5

--3RD POV--

"Remind me, why am I doing this again?" Mari asked as she tightened up the laces of her shoes. "W-well y-you had to do an e-extra curricular a-activity." Midoriya replied, trying his best to keep his attention elsewhere. Which, being a pre-teen boy, was hard given the circumstance. Mari wore the track and field assigned uniform. it consisted of a pair of small, navy blue shorts, along with a plain white shirt.

It also didn't help that he was still very, VERY, shy around girls.

Given Mari's build, her shorts hugged her legs like a second skin, much to her annoyance. "Oh yeah. But I didn't think track and field would be so... tight." She sighed in annoyance, tugging on the shorts a bit. She briefly left Midoriya and threw her backpack in her assigned locker, returning only 30 seconds later. "Alright then Freckles, lets get this over with.." She rolled her eyes as she began walking off toward the field. "O-oh Yes!" Midoriya replied as he scurried behind her.

--The Field--

"Just as I expected.." Mari sighed, stretching next to Midoriya. "W-what is it Mari?" The Greenette ask her. She would rather not look, but she knows what she felt, the stares. She couldn't tell why they were staring, but too many eyes made her a bit uncomfortable. She shook her head and shot him a reassuring smile. "Nothing but pushovers on the Track and Field team." She replied, playing it off with a small laugh.

After a few more stretches, she stood up, dusting herself off and reaching a hand down to Midoriya. "Let's wrap this up Freckles." She said confidently, pulling Midoriya up. "Y-yes!" Midoriya gave a halfhearted reply.

They went over to a line where all the other Track and Field students were and stood near the end. Mari ignored the looks of annoyance she got from the girls and the lecherous looks she got from the males. 'Hormones are one helluva thing.' She thought as she rolled her eyes.

"Alright students. Today you'll be evaluated on your physical abilities to see if your bodies are more suited for another sport." A relatively tall, bald man spoke in an authoritative tone. Mari reached back and tied her long hair in a ponytail, not wanting it to hinder her in the 'tests'. "Now, first up is the softball throw." He shouted, throwing the ball to a person she didn't see.

That was until she recognized the mop of blonde hair that made it's way to the base. "Katsuki Bakugou. You're up first." The sports instructor shouted. "Lay it in there Bakago!" Mari cheered from the line, making Bakugou's head whip around to her. "WHEN DID-" *AHEM* The instructor interrupted, shooting a strict glare at Mari that she met simply with a raised eyebrow. "Continue Bakugou." The instructor ordered. Bakugou gave one last look back at Mari to see her meeting his eyes with a wink and smile. "Tch." His face grew a bit warm before he turned back around and focused.

After a few seconds, Katsuki roared as he launched the ball. "DIEEEEEE!" Mari couldn't help but crack a smirk at it. 'Always the violent one he is.' She thought. The class watched as the ball flew and hit the ground. "73 meters. Not bad at all young man." The instructor said with a monotone voice, writing on his clipboard. "Go to the end of the line. Next." The instructor ordered.

"Nice throw, Bakugou." Mari cheered quietly as he approached, inflating Bakugou's ego a bit. "What can I say? I'm head and shoulders above you bastards." He replied I'm a cocky tone to the taller girl. She merely smiled more as a result before placing a hand on the blondes shoulder. "You did good, so I'll let you have it this time!" She giggled a bit before her smile disappeared. "Don't let it become a habit again." She spoke in a monotone voice.

Katsuki could only nod as a response since he knew that engaging with her, quirk or not, would only end up hurting him. "Good Bakugou." Mari chuckled, her lips making a small smile as she brought her hand up to his head to pet him. Before she could though his embarrassment took over. With a completely red face, both of Bakugou's hands shot up to stop her hand. "I g-get it Goril-.. Mari. Thanks." As much as Bakugou wanted to keep his reputation as the kid that shouldn't be messed with, he couldn't quite do that around Mari.

She was stronger than him, and by a lot. Hell she only let him stop her arm so he wouldn't feel completely helpless to her affection. Not that he had much of a problem with it at first, but he could feel the stares adding up and it was all too much.

'Eyes forward Izuku.. Eyes forward..' Midoriya chanted in his head repeatedly. Despite wanting to turn and see what was going on behind him, he opted to mind his own business.

Mari shrugged and moved her arm. "Submission?" She asked, placing a hand on her hip. "Is that really the Bakugou I know?" She asked with a slight teasing tone as she leaned down a bit to be face to face. Before he could reply, Midoriya's timid voice met her ears. "H-here I go.." He whispered to himself, trembling slightly as he heard the laughs and teasing of hos classmates. Before he could step forward, Mari turned around and grabbed the back of his collar and pulled him back. "Oi, you got this Freckles. Don't let these people shake ya." She said with a flat tone and released him.

Midoriya turned around and gave Mari a small, appreciative smile, before walking to the center. 'Deep breath in.' He inhaled. 'And out..' He exhaled slowly. He picked up the ball, reeled it back and launched it with all his might. The class watched in annoyance as he scored the second highest in the class. "70 meters. Good job young man. Second highest in the class." Midoriya looked at the ball in surprise before turning around and giving Mari a smile, which she returned. "Good going Freckles. Looks like most of the class must've been joking about being heroes in the future. They're really useless without their quirks." She said with a sigh and a hunch of her shoulders. She didn't shout, but the entire class heard it.

Looks ranged from embarrassment all the way to anger, but no one would respond. an altercation with the girl who makes Bakugou submit is something no one wanted.

Midoriya could only sheepishly rub the back of his neck and smile, giving an awkward laugh. "hehe..." Mari did a few arm rotations and stretches before speaking again. "Sorry to rain on your parade though Freckles, but I'm about to blow your scores outta the water. " She declared.
